And now....

it's the computer.  Saturday the newer Dell laptop with it's second new hard drive, passed on to the recycle heap at Staples.  So very good of them to offer free recycling for printers, computers, cords, peripherals.  It happened during the work on the latest group of corner labels, and everything in that file became corrupt.  I went back in and retrieved my contact list, pictures, and favorites.  But the computer I am typing this on is emergency backup, not reliable.  No sense transferring anything until I get a new laptop.   I can't email without contact lists and I can't show photos either.  Shopping for another is not something I want to do.  HP is out and that's what the majority of stock is, maybe order another Dell, or get a cheap one since it seems they have all needed drives replaced in short time, paint comes off the keys, and the touchpad bar sinks in and quits working.  Well, that may have something to do with my very light touch from my menomanhands.  I would probably crack a touch screen.

Marti has no idea what a blessing her chocolate was!  It never made it to the basement where I keep the stash (pretending that the trips up and down the stairs burn those calories).  The wrappers I thought were brown, are in fact black.  Once I got further into bag, some were orange background.  I have a colorful mess of little red, black, and orange foil balls throughout the first floor which delights those damn cats.

As for the Santa that you can't see, I am disappointed that the thread's shading is not even noticeable in 3/4 of this skein.  It appeared to be on the card, but not so once the thread was laid out.  I like the color, but the areas are too pronounced between very light and very dark.  Removed some, added a darker thread, but it doesn't look random and is a stark contrast.  So I've decided to use the brown Ranger ink pad and get the look I want when his coat is completed, before the beard and lighter threads are stitched.  Just a light touch with a soft artist brush to create a slight variation.  Not sure how it will take on the reds so I'm saving the floss scraps for testing.

Have a good week everyone.

You and computers! Maybe a regular - not a laptop would be better. I have a Dell that I have had for at least 6 years. Had to have it fixed once because of power surge issues at the Indiana house.

Oh, it seems to be one thing after another with you and your computers and printers this year, Marly! I am worried that our desktop is on its last legs, too--hate the thought of buying a new one, but better safe than sorry!

Good idea to use the ink pad on the Santa finish--it will look great, I'm sure :)

Argh! Seems like electronic machines just don't like you lately. Am sure this is all very frustrating for you and I empathize.

Thought re the red for your Santa, though I can't remember if you're using GAST or WDW that you overdyed. I had a skein of GAST and could see that fantastic color variations I wanted in my stitching, but because they occurred so close to the center of the strands, I lost a lot of the variation when I cut them to stitching lengths. When I cut the next strand in thirds instead of half, I got better shading in my work.

I am sorry the laptop bit the dust! I have an 8-year old HP desktop, running Windows 7 that I won't let go! Need more RAM cause it runs kinda slow, but that is all... I don't need anything else... You are so clever about making things turn out, that I am sure the dye will work out!

I don't envy you with your computer problems! Have you ever consider getting an iMac? Once we switched from standard Dell computers and went all Apple, we have had hardly any problems. Plus, with the Cloud, what goes on my phone, goes in my computer and vice versa. It makes life a lot easier and the Mac computer is very easy to use.

When your Santa is finally done, I know you will have a wonderful result. With you eye for color, I have not doubt that your finished product will be quite lovely!

Marly, I had several different computers (with problems too) and my son, Rob (deceased) convinced me to invest in an iMac. I have had it five years and all the minor problems I have had with it (because I didn't know how to do something) were solved by a quick call to the Apple Store. Hope this suggestion helps.

With "prim" hugs,
Carole

Am I imagining things, or do you go through computers and printers like they are out of style? Such a bummer!

Sorry you're having computer problems. I have a friend that works in the tech field and services all makes of computers. He suggested a Mac or Lenovo. I purchased a Lenovo 6 years ago and it's still working. A couple of years ago, I also bought a MacBook Pro because some software I use for my job only runs on Mac. Google has been my source for learning how to use the MacBook when I have questions, although I've found it very easy to use. I also use a personal cloud storage device, which is basically a stand alone hard drive connected to my home network. I like that I can have all my files on the personal cloud and access them from either of my laptops. Good luck on the hunt for a new computer. I enjoy shopping for computers about as much as I enjoy shopping for new bras, lol.

I'm looking forward to seeing your santa!
