Hello dear people. Hope everyone is well and able to tolerate this weather in the states. As humans (most of us) we are able to find help of some sort through neighbors and family, so I become upset about the poor animals, wild and strays, that have no help and no water. The older I get, the more it bothers me!
On to sweet Lydia. There are only two colors in this design and after completing 3021, I found my 640 and remembered that this is one of the colors that has changed quite a bit over the years. The newer is the greenish hue and I chose the more brown. Here she is for now, in the box that I made years ago.
She fits perfectly and may just stay here, but we all know what a ditz I am. I was considering a pocket with a thin rope handle hanging from the last monster basket I purchased. I'm really liking this for now and at least she is displayed while I decide. I think that's what is great about finding something different for display. They aren't hidden away while awaiting their final resting place.
My iron's plate was all burned and gunked from interfacings and scorching, so much that even Bar Keeper's Friend wouldn't help. Bar Keeper's is the absolute best and really cleans stainless cookware and sinks, so I tried it since the soleplate is also stainless. Nothing. So I got out this product and couldn't believe it. Gone. Easily! I put a little on a Q-tip to get into the plate's dimples and all is now shiny and clean. The iron is very hot while cleaning so I used a spray bottle and kept spritzing water until all residue was removed and it had cooled. Beautiful!
And now for the dress that won't leave. I've had it for probably as long as I've been married which is 42 years. It was so hard to find clothes back then long enough for my height and I found this to the floor halter dress in a specialty shop.
It's fabric is crisp, kind of seersucker, completely wrinkle resistant, and has a bottom sweep that makes you feel like Ginger Rogers. I just can't bring myself to get rid of it! I considered having it shortened to mid calf but I'm afraid it will change the fall of the permanent pleats. So it lives in my closet, can be rolled into a ball, and open up as fresh and crisp as can be. Maybe that's it? I'm fascinated by the fabric?
One more thing. Please do not order shark fin soup. I caught the extremely disturbing video of cutting out the shark's fins while they are alive, and dumping them back into the ocean to sink and die. Their fins are to them as our arms and legs are to us. Horrifying. No creature whether I like them or not should be so brutally mutilated. I'm sorry to bring this up, but I was completely unaware of this and thought I would pass it along. I'm done.
I hope you're having a good week and staying safe.
Thank you for visiting, back to Eunice!

Very sweet stitching and I love the color so much xxx
Never heard of shark fin soup. How horrifying and disgusting! Lydia looks great there. :) What a cool dress Marly. How tall are you Marly? I am 5'11".
Hi Marly! Love Lydia -- great job! That is AWFUL about the shark fin soup...not that I'm fond of sharks, but I agree with you, no animal deserves that treatment. Vera PS I'm tall too - 5'10" (and shrinking...LOL)
Love your Lydia -- beautiful! Love where you're displaying her too. Love that dress too. I have the opposite problem -- finding dresses that aren't too long for my height. lol! I'm short! I didn't know that about shark fin soup. That's terrible!
Love how your Lydia turned out! And it looks great where you have it displayed.
Never heard of shark fin soup... how horrible the way the sharks are treated.... just a terrible practice... very cruel.
Love that dress! Why wouldn't you just wear it as it is?! I think it's a great summer dress, and the longer length is in style.... Of course, hot flashes must be considered when wearing a maxi dress.... this I know from experience.... But perhaps during the evening..out to dinner?? :) I love it!!
Beautiful wallbox! You can send it my way when you get tired of it. Take care, Janice
Lovely finish on Lydia! You find such creative ways to finish things!
Marly, I love Lydia finished and hung on the box. My Lydia is still sitting on the kitchen table waiting for me to paint the frame. Another one of my Famous UFO's....
I saw a Pin on Pinterest that said to use a dryer sheet to clean the bottom of your iron. Haven't tried it yet, but thought it was interesting & very inexpensive. I use the dryer sheets for repelling moths from my wool collection.

So now you build gorgeous boxes too? Do your talents never end??? Yikes. Lydia looks ever so loverly there....I think that should be her permanent home. Love the dress. I have some of those in my closet as well. Alas, length is not my quandary. :o( Ewwwww on the shark fin soup. Not that I would consider ever even trying a soup made from limbs - but that is disgusting and horrifying. Hugs ~ Robin
Lydia looks wonderful! I love where you are displaying her - I don't think I would move her. :) I love your dress! I think I had an Easter dress made of that type of fabric many years ago. That's terrible about the shark fin soup! Hard to believe people can be so cruel.
Your finish looks wonderful and I like the way you've chosen to display the piece.
Love Lydia--you amaze me with your constant production! It would take me forever to produce one small piece! Shark fin soup? Heard of it, but don't expect to be trying it anytime soon--especially after hearing THAT!! Jan
I love the way you finished Lydia! So creative. And no shark fin soup for me!!!
I think that pesky 640 is one that has caused me trouble. I had no idea that DMC changed their color formulations. Your piece looks fantastic, and I always enjoy how you display them.
Marly, your sweet Lydia is a cutie! I know she will look delightful wherever you decide her final home to be, but I think she looks quite nice where she is!
Thanks for the tip on the Iron-Off product. I am an ironing fanatic and am always looking for products to clean the iron plate ... will definitely try this!
I love your plaid sundress! I think you should wear it "as is" while the longer lengths are in style. No more hiding in your closet ... put that pretty dress on and out on the town you go! (Or at least enjoy a beautiful summer evening in your lovely backyard!)
Love Lynda! That dress is beautiful! Hang on to it! You never know when you might want to wear it. shark fin soup? ugh! It even sounds awful. No thanks and especially since knowing what they do to get it!
Marly, Lydia is sweet! I love how you pull DMC colors. And that plaid dress! Timeless. Inspires me to go shopping at the vintage shops! Thank you for sharing your discovery about shark fin soup. Heartbreaking.
Love your Lydia finish, I have the pattern and on my stitching list. Love the dress..no thanks on the soup, that's horrible. Have a great day~ blessings,~Ronda
Like the way Lydia's hangin' out. Never have, never will on the soup - I knew about how they got them and agree it is monsterous. Have you considered making your dress into something that you would wear more often - like a wrap. Seems to be enough fabric there for that. Or a quilt? I dismantled and reconstituted a man's 50's wool robe into a lap quilt for a client. You have to think about what you're doing, but it's not as hard as it sounds.
Hello
Just found your lovely blog.
Your finish is so sweet.
I like your dress and I'm not surprised you don't want to cut it after having it all that time.
Thank you for the info on shark's fin soup, how cruel and unnecessary. I've never had it and now after reading your post never will.
How very sad and cruel about the shark fin soup. Never had it and never will.
Lydia is lovely and perfectly displayed too.
Lucky you, 5'-11", I measure in at 5'-2" and shrinking. Some how I managed to have a 5'-10" daughter (Sandy is my size - poor kid) and one 6'-3" son and another just under 6'-0"...Love it...Of course Dad was a tad over 6'-0"... notice I said 'was'.
The dress is very colorful and a great style for the hotter weather.
I keep coming back for more of your inspiration. No way will I ever be able to keep up with you and I am not about to try.
Have a Great rest of the Day with Lots of Peace, Barb
Love your Lydia and the way you chose to display her.
I really LOVE that dress and would buy it in a heartbeat if I ever saw it at a "vintage" clothing store. Maybe with my 5" espadrilles it wouldn't be too long. I'd be wearing that every summer if I were you, Marly.
Love the finish !!!!
Luvin Lydia in your wall box, perfect display!
