After mounting Mary three different times (because of the stretched linen), sampling her inside of many mouldings to make sure it is juuuuuust the right wood tone, giving the OK to the framer before she sealed the back, I bring her home and .....

How could I have missed this? I stared at her for an hour while choosing the frame! I checked all the lines with my square for perfect mounting! AUGH!!!!
No glass so I am trying this from the top. If it doesn't work I'll leave it as is. Odd though, how this is the first thing I noticed when I hung her on the wall, but never saw it before.

Well... my framer caught my misplaced icon, but I told her to leave it -- it was my design addition :-) I guess it's a good idea for we who Putz to take a photo BEFORE we head to the framer!
I like Mary and I wouldn't have noticed the missing stitches had you not pointed them out. By the way, I really like Mary's molding.

I also didn't notice the missing stitches till I studied the close up for a few minutes. However, now that you have seen them, that is all you will see every time you look at it, I know that from past experiences(boo boo's). I used to paint so it was easy to fiz, just paint over it.Hey, maybe you could use textile paint and just paint in the missing stitches. LOL Actually I think if you could live with it the way it is, we sure can. It is such an amazing piece.
First of all the frame you selected is beautiful and perfect for the piece. I also didn't notice the missing stitches...it even took me a while to see it in the close up picture. I read some where the Amish(or was it Shakers) purposely put some errors in their quilts since they believe only God is capable of perfection. It's a lovely piece.

Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees, as the saying goes. I never would have noticed if you hadn't pointed it out Marly but I'm sure it is driving you quite mad now that you've seen it! Hope the 'top stitching' works and if not just remember what Picasso said: "Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes. Art is knowing which ones to keep". Deb
Well even with the part you forgot to stitch, it looks wonderful! Love that frame! And hey, it's easy to miss something like that. I believe I forgot to stitch the hair on two girls in one of my samplers. lol!

I echo what others are saying about your choice of molding...beautiful.
I,too, took quite a few minutes to find the missing stitches. "To thine known self be true"...if your eye will go to that area each time you pass, then you must add the stitches.(Unfortunately, I'm the personality type that would lose sleep over this!) I think this might be an easy task using a curved needle.

I was not sure if it was the missing stitches in the border under 'October' OR the #2 as it extends into the angled upper right corner zig zag design. My limited experience has noticed some omissions or errors that were actually a part of the sampler designs. NO Matter! It is YOUR piece and that simple loss of your train of thought makes it a unique, 'One Of A Kind'. When I slip up, I often say, "It's good enough". But that's me.
The frame is absolutely perfect.

This is exactly the kind of uniqueness that will make this beauty stand out and allow future admirers to enjoy speculating on how/why stitches were missed. 100 yrs from now it'll be featured in an article with this exact topic:) Personally, I like it as is and adore the frame, well done, congrats. Off to feed kitchen scraps to my furry friends in the pasture:)

It's a beautiful sampler. Maybe it would be easier to cut out the color you didn't complete, than to try to stitch in the other color. It's awfully nice either way. :)
The sampler is beautiful!! The shakers believed that you needed to put a mistake in your work so you would not be perfect that might offend God. Is that any help??

Isn't it amazing we can overlook these things. Ofcourse no one would have noticed it. The sampler is beautiful. I once made a little pillow with friends on it--spelled friendds! I completed the whole thing and showed it to another friend who noticed it. I had to take the entire thing apart and redo it! We have a;; beem there. Good luck with the top stitches.

I can sympathize Marly but you're not the first to do this. If your fix doesn't work (it probably will) just tell everyone you reproduced it exactly how the original was! It will be beautiful however it ends up!
Blame it on Mary......many little girls forgot things when they stitched......and besides, as we age we just keep storing stuff in our menopausal brain (which can only hold so much ) so we occasionally miss something (or lose it in our massive filing system).....say la gere (sp?...)...It's gorgeous!
