The big boy of book 58

Hi everyone.  It's November.  Can you believe it?  Husband keeps saying "you're another month closer to your favorite season".  He doesn't understand that I prefer a summer of being 62 instead of another year older.
Here's the big boy.  Love him!!  I haven't decided if I should add Merry or something to make it a little longer.  I prefer the simple look of Santa alone and am leaning toward a top cuff of fringe or a cuff with rusty bells.   Here he is with the ornament size.
In addition to the color changes, I filled in the few blank stitches at mouth and cheek corners with 644 on the 3866 beard.  Leaving them unstitched did nothing on this linen background. The outline on the collar with 644 started as an error but I like the look so left it.
Getting back to my prior question about doing the light colors last; if a dark color was used for the antlers, wouldn't they also look like dots if done first?  So maybe it's not as much the color, as it is to save small details for last?  I plan on doing a little research to see what the experts have to say.  Not that it will matter because I will either forget or do what I want anyway, but it's good to think you're knowledgeable and just choose not to use it.
The candy bags are out of the car and in the freezer.  Well, what's left of them is anyway.  Not one trick-or-treater.
Just the cats.  Squeaky sounds like a bad wheel and cries a lot.  He is tolerated and comes on the deck to eat, but the others stand back.  I think he wants to be part of the group and Bud sits all day, watching the woods where Squeak comes from.  Seems like he wants to be friends and they roll together, but you can't trust Bud.

At least he is staying in the setup I made for him for some protection from the weather.

The boys just watch him.  And the girlfriend keeps showing off her cuteness.
We had very high winds and rains which created a thick blanket of soaked leaves.  It took me hours and hours of pushing that heavy machine to blow them and I hope that negated a few Mounds bars.
Today will be pick up sticks day with an Advil chaser.

Time to move to another project but I may sew the last few samplers into finishes first.  Will probably do a few more Santas before moving to a larger project.
Enjoy your weekend!
Stay safe.
Thanks for visiting!

I love your "Big Boy".

I'm working on my 4th PS Woodland Santa. How can one not love PS Santas?

We also get fewer and fewer trick or treaters. I have a lot of candy leftover but luckily I restrained myself and didn't buy tons of it.

Mr. Santa is handsome! Cuff on top and fringe on bottom sounds perfect! Love that last pic of kitty in a wheel barrel! Just needs a wreath or some pine garland and it would make a great Christmas card!

OOoooh Marly, Big Boy is wonderful ... love him and am anxious to see him finished.
Your Santas are delightful and you put me to shame as I am a notoriously sloooow stitcher. I would not even attempt to keep up with you. You are an inspiration to so many.

Fondly with Peace,
Barb

Christmas is coming and you're going to be ready.. Your Big santa is beautiful. Really nice !
Why can't Bud just get along with the other kitties. He'd be happier and they would too.
Mounds bars are a delicacy in my book any day..
Have a great weekend out doors.. I hope you won't need too much Advil. It's good stuff though.
Happy 2nd of November.

Where do you live that you got no trick or treaters? Wow! The only time that happened here was last Halloween -- after Sandy when there was no power in the neighborhood. Love that Santa!! Man I love him! I do think it's finishing the little details last. No matter the color.

I think it is the little details left for last. For instance, putting beads or buttons on last.Filling in is last to me, too! Cute kitty pics! Hugs!

I always love your. Santas... Big Boy is no exception~. As for me and the light colors, ecru and white, I always stitch them last if I can.... I'm just afraid handling will be noticeable.... Plus, I think years ago I was told to do it this way...

Wow, that Santa finish is wonderful! We had lots of rain on Halloween but it stopped for the 2 hours while the kids were trick or treating. It was a "good" year for us with 31 kids coming to our door, but Hubby wasn't generous with the candy so we have a huge bag left.

Oh, he is just splendid, Marly! I have never seen this one stitched up before--makes me want to run and pull fabric and threads and get stitching (but since I am up in NY at my mom's, that isn't going to be happening!).

The Big Boy is wonderful. I just love PS designs.
Thanks for the feline update. Glad that they are playing well. The girl is very cute.
I guess that next year you don't need to buy any candy :)
