Thawing out

How's everyone?  Warming up a bit?  Hope so.  We were well below zero with wind chills but PA didn't have it as bad as the middle sections.  I can't imagine!  What do you do with your livestock?   Annie has ducks and was nice enough to inform me that there are microwavable pads that you can insert under bedding to keep critters warm made specifically for them.  Didn't know that!  Thanks Annie.  My husband said they couldn't feel the warmth from heaters at work unless they stuck their hand within inches of it.
On to the horse.  Two readers reminded me of the original piece that inspired this chart, and when I looked it up, I got all warm and fuzzy.    I have to try to do this.  Really.  Everything about it is drawing me in.  It looks like there is stitching beneath the horses and I wonder what the folded part is like.  Doesn't matter.  I would keep the top scalloped and make it into a bag to hang, stitching only what is shown here.  Now to find a shade of linen close to this, almost impossible from a computer monitor.  BUT.  A reader also informed me of a shop out in Boardman, Ohio (about 40 minutes from here) that I may go to this weekend.  This is her site With Needle In Hand.  I will take a pill with me, just in case I get too excited.  Haven't been in a needlework shop for ..... 25 years?
I have a 10 x 15 piece of 32 count grayish tealish blue that looks about right, but it may not be large enough.  It's been folded in a small bag from my local shop of 30 years ago and I'm not sure the creases will come out either.
As for the current piece, I can't tell you how many times I've stitched the flowers with different shades.  I didn't want them to look all the same, but it was either that, or a drastic difference.  902 was just too dark.  So one is GAST Mulberry, one is 355, another is 221.  I got tired of my frustrations, that brought on many hot flashes, that made me open the door to -10, that made Mark turn up the thermostat, that made me hotter, that brought on bickering, that led to chocolate, that led to poundage, that led to exercise, that led to exhaustion, that made me bitchy, that led to a hot flash, that started all over in the house that Mark built.
So I made these during breaks.  And every once in a while, these plywood pieces would fall over and scare the begeezers out of me.  I can trust Bud, but not the other two so I had to keep the barriers up.

Today they are back outside and not happy. Squeak showed up and they ate together. This has happened before, and a week later Bud would be attacking. So far so good. The deer were coming to eat and it was comical to watch them try to chew frozen breads. The three in the center are chomping on hot dog buns.
Why do I keep getting a banner saying "only secure content is displayed"?  Some wacky things have been happening.  I keep getting emails saying "(someone)@gmail.com wants to follow you.  I would like to add you as a friend - Accept".  There is no site to follow - just their email address.  I read that these are phishing to gain access to your email contacts.  Don't know.

I'm done.  Time to sweep the cat hair, wash all the items for recycling, scrub the dishwasher, stare at paint samples, count my toes, anything to put off exercising.
Thanks for visiting!

Looking great! Thanks for sharing the pic of the original... I did not know one existed... i do like that dark teal linen it's stitched on, but don't think me eyes would cooperate... I'll just have to look forward to seeing what you stitch up! :-) Today's 28 degrees feels like a heat wave...

Enjoy visiting the shop! I'm happy to say the heater worked very well in the garage for the cats but I might add our garage is completely finished and insulated. I'm sure that made a difference.

Enjoy your road trip to the stitching shop, Marly! Great pictures of the deer and kitties!

I never click on those links as most are just phishing for your information.

How exciting to go to a shop! It's nice to touch stuff! Ohio has the best stitching stores. I love Crafty Ewe and Framing too" up near Cleveland

The flowers are looking good. I can totally understand wanting different shades of red. A little variety can make such a big difference.

Marly! Marly! It is 24º here right now!!! I am still freezing though. Even with hot tea and fleece. I am going to throw on a jacket too. ;)
Bud and Squeak together warms my heart. My mom's female feral is back!! She is very skinny.
That horse piece looks very, very cool.

Marly, I love the horses and look forward to seeing what you re-create from the pic. Your posts crack me up as I so relate to the menopause thing. That you are only 40 miles from Boardman got me wondering where in PA you are. I lived for 31/2 years in western PA near New Castle about 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. Now I'm back in southwest Ohio.

Everyone needs to smile and your post made me smile. By the way, I often have to put on the fan at night and my poor DH has blankets piled to the ceiling!

Oh my gosh. I'd never seen the original of Two Horses. Do you have the link to where you found the pic? I love that!!! Is it a wallet? OMG. Ok, I'm obsessed.

Love the antique purse and can't wait to see what you find at the shop. Have fun! I totally understand (unfortunately) the meno cycle.... Hot flashes, weight gain, tiredness, irritability, BLECH!

HA! I, too, live in the house that Mark built.... Seriously....and it goes just like that! Anyways....I LOVE that horse piece!! So glad you shared with us the original....I was going to ask about it yesterday, but thought, perhaps, I was the only uninformed one out there who didn't know about the original. Since I wasn't, I'm going to be brazen tonight and ask something that I otherwise wouldn't have.... Your search for teal linen...means that you are going to stitch this piece AGAIN? I cannot fathom that.... Smiles & Uninformed Hugs ~ Robin

To misquote Field Of Dreams, "If you chart it, they will buy it". The original "Two Horses" is stunning! ( I also like the
Primitive Needle version.). Will be CLOSELY following your journey. Mouse

Thermostat wars, dont you love it? The same thing happens here but Im told Im atleast 10 yrs from menopause. Sure can fool me. But I like to be cool and not sweating and my husband, who has 100+ lbs on me, is always cold, so cold. Go figure. Put on a sweatshirt buddy :). LOL!

I absolutely love 17th and 18th century wallets and love stitching them as reproductions. It looks like the original was stitched with teal colored wool (?). I look forward to your posts to see where you go and would be very interested in your charting if available for purchase. Beautiful!!!

I like that Two Horses piece. I'm sure your version will be awesome! The only good thing about hot flashes is that they've saved me from freezing during our winter storm.

I resisted the temptation to order Two Horses until today. Alas, those big eyes were too much for me!!! Thanks for sharing the original design. It's a beauty! Hugs from Kentucky! kelley

I love that original. I love the teal linen. I could use a piece of that for a sampler I would like to do. I can't wait to see yours all done.

I'm just sitting here laughing at your "at the house that Mark built" bit. I understand completely! I'm always having those hot flashes and then freezing everyone out when the doors go open. lol

Loving your horses! I just found your blog and have been enjoying looking at all your wonderful pieces! You do beautiful work.

Now off to stitch myself.

Always such fun to read your blog! And how true it is! The original Two Horses is stunning. Your creation will be just as stunning! I would love to see those deer. I live right in the middle of town...so no deer.

Let me know how you like the shop in Boardman, Marly--my in-laws live right down the road in Poland, OH. The original Two Horses is amazing and I have no doubt yours will be as well :)

We have a family of about five deer living in our woods behind the house--I love seeing them run through the yard. Just don't love the way they attack our plants each spring and summer!

That original piece is going to be great when you get to it! You know the saying, 'If in doubt, throw it out' --same same for emails and anything internet! If it's not from someone you know or are searching for, delete delete delete!
