Four mounted, the other two largest need to have foam core cut from a framer since they are larger than the standard size sold at Michael's. I need to get another two boxes of bridal and lace pins, the thinnest and best for inserting into the foam and also the only I know of that are stainless steel. Since these samplers will end up at Goodwill one day, I don't really care about acid-free core or non rusting pins for sixty years from now. The linen weave on two was loose enough for the tiny pin heads to pull through so I tried a larger head, but they were thicker and harder to insert. They also left a larger hole which interfered when I needed to adjust its location. Most of my blood came from angled pins poking out of the foam.
Mark suggested I use a magnet to hold the pins making them easier for my crooked fingers to grab, and it worked well. There were too many for a pincushion to hold and as you know, I am lazy, and didn't want to take the time to keep reloading it. Dipping the magnet into the bunch is all it took to reload.
Getting a haircut today, my final treatment will be Friday. I don't see any change and plan to make the appt for a transplant. I don't want to wait until there is nothing left. There's so much Toppik in it now that I have to clean my nails if I scratch my head!
Have a good day folks.

Marly - before you take those samplers to Goodwill, I hope you will give your fans an opportunity to purchase them! I, for one, would be very interested! Leslie
Having only ever finished a couple of small projects for framing and used (gasp!) masking tape to hold the backs, I'm guessing you insert the pins into the narrow edge of the foam core? Is there a reason you don't use thread and lace the backs? I must say pins sound easier, but possibly more painful.
Marly ,don't believe your samplers will end up at Goodwill. I am sure . My children have been TOLD they must keep mine or I will come back to haunt them. Supplies ( if no now wants) must be sent to Kitten Stitcher for her charity page on her web site. I plan ahead, hahaha. I used to frame myself but then decide to have them done professionally so much nicer. Expensive but my work is worth the money. Have I hung them all up yet? No, I only have a few on the walls. But this fall I told my husband they all go up , and damn the holes in the walls!
Your work is beautiful. I understand the thrift store dilemma. My surviving child said he is just going to back a dumpster up to my house and clean it out. No sorting or saving. Now, will he do that? Not sure but I keep going (mostly quilting) in hope that he will change his mind or I find a source to share.
Kudos to you for mounting your pieces. I don't have the patience for that. Of course, most of my stitched pieces are just rolled up and put in a drawer. The ones that I have framed were all done by a local guy.
There is always a solution and you always find one, Marly. Heavens to Elizabeth that these beautiful samplers do not get passed along to others who appreciate the work and care that you showered on them.
I don't know which is worse- the child who says they will just dump everything and save nothing, or those like mine who says she will save everything- but only because she knows how much *I* loved it. While I dont want everything put in the garbage, I also sure dont want it kept/stored simply out of mourning or guilt. And, by the way, Marly: all of your work is outstanding and beautiful!
I’m just going to tell my kids to do what they want but to remember all the joy stitching brought me.
Gah!!! How gorgeous are those???!!! And what a statement they make together!! But, yeah....I get where you're at. Little Crow has no "appreciation" and is an extreme "minimalist" (loves his mama he says...but is the extreme opposite LOL) and though I have threatened to haunt him in all ways not good, I know there will be a mass estate sale type auction and no one will care less if it's a $500+ chocolate mold or a useless piece of tupperware. Sigh. His second to the last x would have appreciated things...but not his last...and now, there's not even an x on the horizon...at least for him. ~r~
