We have a diagnosis

Hello all.  I made it to Cleveland Clinic, with a speeding ticket, and several where-the-hell-are-we incidents.  On a four lane road in town almost bumper to bumper, going along with the traffic speed, we were singled out going 40 instead of 25.  Well so was everyone else!  That bitch in the GPS was not cooperating with the route we wanted, and retaliated on the way home when it took my husband an hour off course.  But he made it home.  I'll be here for the week, go home on the weekend, come back next week for her aortic valve replacement surgery.  If all goes well, she will be in ICU for 3 days and then another room for 4 more.  I'll have to get a hotel for those first three.  The doctor is 99% sure that is her problem.  The echocardiogram done here was vastly more detailed from the one at the prior hospital several days ago.  There, they told her the valve was not bad enough to be treated at this point.  Good thing we came here.  But.  She had all these other procedures and surgeries, being told they would fix the problem (they were sure of it) and none did.  She is concerned of going though such a major and serious operation, only to be disappointed again.  Being that it's Cleveland Clinic, we are pretty sure that won't be the case.  I am in awe of this place.  I went down to the main floor and walked around, found a Starbucks, Subway, McDonalds (sweet tea, baby!) food, and shops.  And a relaxation area with pianos and a swaying lit tree that just calms you in a minute.

For mom, we had the tall bubbling fish tube with lights.  You can control the bubbles from slow to fast and watching the little fake fish slowly move in the bubbles always calmed her down.  This tree did it for me.  I want to take Carole down to see it but she is having a left heart catheterization tomorrow and another involved test Thursday.  Maybe in the evening when less people are milling around.

I brought my stitching and will work on Harriet but also started Notforgotten's Pennsylvania Pillowe.

Have a good one!

I support law enforcement, I really do, but, don't you think that if the officer knew your story, he would've reached down for an iota of compassion and let you off with a warning? Glad that you feel better about CC. She's getting the best in the country. My sister's a cardiac surgeon and she did her fellowship there.

Marly, I "googled" Cleveland Clinic.. It said that it's the #1 hospital for heart conditions in America. Praying that Carole's new surgery will go perfectly and she'll feel much better..
Sorry about the ticket. You really didn't need that to happen.
You and Carole surely do have strong fortitude to be going through all that has happened.
I would love to have a "fish bubble" thingy in my home. Does it have balmy breezes to go with it.. If not, it should. I hope you and Carole can enjoy it together.
Strong, positive prayers coming your way.

I am glad you are feeling better. Just stay by the tree when things get tough. I can just see the headlines now: Cleveland Hospital Missing It's Tree-found in Carol's room with her sister sitting under it. Anyway, I hope to start on your sack pattern soon. My daughter bought me His Eye Is On The Sparrow pattern by Heartstring Samplers and I ordered a yard of 28 count linen to stitch it only to realize just how big Big I say that sampler is. I am going to do it on 40 count, struggle I mean, Parchment linen. So, I have lots of 28 count and will do your pattern. Looking forward to it. Don't forget to water your tree! Karen in NC

It's been 12 years, but I stayed at a hotel across from the Clinic that had a shuttle service...it was pretty inexpensive to stay there, as I recall. There was also a "Hope" center nearby where I stayed...families and patients from out of town were able to stay there-kind of like a Ronald McDonald house for adults....ask to speak to a social worker who will help you with your options....and be safe....it's not an area of downtown Cleveland that you want to explore by yourself at night! Prayers for a quick recovery and return home....

Great news, we have wonderful hospitals here in Omaha and when you walk into them you feel good. I lived in NY most of my life and they say they are the best but here in Omaha we have great hospitals. We have lots and lots of them.

Marly, thanks for the update today. I've been offline for the holidays and am just now catching up. I'm sending positive thoughts your way. I have faith your sister is in the best possible place she could be right now. Hugs to you both!

I'm glad your sister is at Cleveland Clinic now. She will get the best care possible there. I went through this with a friend with a heart problem a few years ago. Her cardiologist wanted her to go to Duke which is only 1.5 hours away, but she insisted on staying local for convenience. Their expertise was limited so they only partially fixed the problem. A year later she had to go back for a second procedure.

I am so happy you went to the Cleveland Clinic and that you got a definite diagnosis. She should be on the road to recovery very soon now. Aren't you glad we have our stitching to do in times of stress. At least, I know it helps me. Thinking of you and your sister. Sandra

I am so glad that there is a diagnosis that they feel is correct; something positive to hold on to. Continued prayers going up for you and your sis; grace and peace to both of you and your families. Glad there are areas there of calm as well.

Praying for you and Carole. It really sounds like you are in the best place. In my experience, the bigger hospitals are the best. My cousin's wife is a nurse in Cleveland - if the rest are anything like her, you're in good hands. Hmmm, her husband is a cop - maybe we should start a blogger campaign to get you out of the ticket?

P.S. Trying AGAIN to prove I'm not a robot. Must be telling me I'm spending too much time on the computer.

Sounds like Carole is right where she should be! That sucks about the ticket, not to mention the 'bitch in the box.' I hate her sometimes also. Sweet TEA from McDonalds....yes! Thoughts and prayers coming your way!

Marly, I'm praying for Carole to make it through everything and come out better than ever. I'm praying for you too. Hang in there, go watch that tree! :)

I have always heard such good things about the Cleveland Clinic, Marly, and it seems like she is finally on the right path as far as diagnosis and treatment are concerned... She is so lucky to have you there as her advocate and support person (not to mention loving sister). Continued prayers for you both...

Thank you for update, CC is one of the finest hospitals. If a tickets is the price for a healthy sister...you are lucky. For a laugh. The ticket reminds me of a story. A guy is pulled over for speeding, he says everyone else was speeding too, Why not give them a ticket? The police office says , do you fish? the driver says "yes". The police officers say, do you catch them all? hahaha. You sound better, but leave the tree where it is... good thoughts out to Cleveland.
