Hello! Hope your weekend is going well. Random selected a name for me and it is Anonymous Barbara. I looked up the Anonymous entries and Barbara left her email address - thank you!! I'll be sending a note asking for your address and will mail your boxes Monday morning. Thank you everyone for participating. I was feeling bad that I only had one offer so ...well....you know how that guilt thing goes. I may have to go get another box or something. I really appreciate all of you wanting these little boxes of mine so I may have to get busy. Now for the loser....
Putz. Pure putz. I stitched the two W arms with the two stitch row NEXT to the left one instead of UP! I looked at this chart over and over and why I did this, I haven't a clue. One long look and I thought - holy cow that's one big W! Good thing I caught it now! It wasn't easy removing this wool thread but duct tape removed the fuzz and I'm starting over. I am having a problem with the linen and will try to show it here. One side of the linen is darker and more aged looking than the other but do you see a difference in the weave? The one on the right (which I am stitching on) appears to be a honeycomb and the other side (left photo) looks like what I am used to seeing. I'm having a heck of a time but like the darker side. Never saw this before and maybe it's just me!!
We finally had rain and it's cold here - I'm not a happy camper. But my portulaca paint can pots finally bloomed!
Tomorrow I will be posting all the new charts from R&R. Have a great Sunday! Thank you again for participating and visiting!
Talk to you soon.

That linen you are stitching on looks very confusing!! Good luck!
I have seen that in linen fabric before. I don't remember why it is...it seems like there is an third thread that is causing that if I remember right. When I find this happening to me I just stitch on the other side. I can see where and why you would get off with your "W" arms. I would to. It actually took me a few minutes looking at the graph and photo to see what you did. I am getting ready to stitch this same pattern. I have had it for a little while and just haven't got it started but I am finishing a large sampler and I think I need to start something small and 'easy', plus my guild has a show coming up and I kind of wanted to enter it.
I will ask some of the guild senior stitchers if they know why with the linen.
Good luck and go slowly and carefully tomorrow.
Marly,
Look at this link,it may help. http://www.guntastolzl.org/Works/Workshop-Zurich-1931-1967/Fabrics-1930s/1948020_T6DzWV/93300208_M8Hdd#!i=93300208&k=M8Hdd
It talks about when the Weft threads are thick and thin over the Warp threads. I think this is the effect that you are getting.
Okay, Marly...I've found one other explaination for the effect. There is a way in which the tension or lack of tension of the warp thread creates a waffle effect on one side of the fabric while the other side has a straight effect. I found the info when I googled ask.com. I asked, 'why does linen get a waffle effect on one side?'
The results gave one link to a site called...Albini Group - Glossary. If you click on the site it takes you to a glossary and the Batavia is the term and why this is happening.
That should do it I think. ;) I love a good challenge.
Some linen I've come across has been strange but I've never seen the honeycomb effect before. Always something new in life to drive us crazy : ) Your paint pot portulacas look great! It's cold there & you are NOT a happy camper? I would be smiling ear to ear & dancing in wild abandon up & down the street!
Strange linen..truly looking so different..nice to see something different..
Good luck x
ohhhh at least you got your mistake before it was further on ... and you can't tell re fuzz ..
mmm can't help you with the different wefts and warps .. but I see peeps above can .. will go and check out their links ...
congratulations to Barbara too :0
love mouse xxxxx
Strange linen. Beautiful flowers. :)
love your moss roses! don't you just love them.the wool pin keeps are such a fun stitch! denise
Bummer about your mistake with the W. I do love that piece though -- it'll look great and it's good you caught the mistake when you did. I was reading other people's answers about the linen. Very interesting! Never seen the effect before -- very weird!
I have made that exact mistake myself...more times that I care to admit! It took me a while to see it in your piece. I usually end up giving myself a charlie-horse from kicking myself in the butt afterward.
That linen sure is confusing. I'm not sure I could stitch on it.
Your portulaca is beautiful! I used to plant them when I lived in PA but I'm not sure the ground here where I live would be good for them. It's full of clay.
I have never seen that effect on linen before.... very strange .... and I can see how confusing it must be! But the color is beautiful and looks great with the ecru....
Congrats to the winner of the little box.... a lucky lady for sure! Thanks for the fun giveaway.
Love your portulacas in the paint cans.... so pretty. My flowers are struggling but holding on. I may try to rust up some paint cans for next year!
Congratulations to Anonymous Barbara!! Lucky gal! You know we all love your little boxes Marly - so you're not going find any of us talking you out of the guiltsies.....
I've seen that wacky weft stuff with linen and I don't LIKE it.....It's a pain to stitch on....LOVE your portaluca paint pots!! What a clever idea.....might have to steal that for next year (if I can remember that long.....) I love portaluca and usually plant some every year and, eventually, they started come up with petunias and gysophilia in between the brick on our patio....that is, until DH (and "d" is not an acronym for "dear" in this case) took a bottle of round up to the patio. :o( Wishing you a beauteous day!! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
I would not be able to stitch on that waffle-looking side of the linen - weird! I've not seen that before. Hope you've gotten past your mistake now and making good progress again. Can you send some your cold air over to Phoenix?? We are dying for some cool air and some RAIN!
Congrats on winning Barbara! Sorry to hear the frogs came to visit, but at least you caught them before they could get into any more mischief :)

Marly, I stitched the other "wool" option on the same pattern. I made the same mistake on the W as you did - or close to it. My problem was I started, put it down and then somehow it made sense to me to start stitching it upside down.
Love your paint can planters if that is what they are!

May I pin one of these photos?
