Hi everyone. First off, in answer to a few no-reply emails, Postman Santa is from an old Leisure Arts book "Christmas Portraits" usually found on Amazon. The little stag pillow is a freebie found here from Helga Mandl.
I'm finally getting around to decorating and am avoiding the light strings. They have a habit of turning trees into rockets exiting through windows.
So I started with the fireplace and wanted to do something different this year. My Prairie Schoolers will be hanging from my little tree with large safety pins but I didn't get around to that yet. Thought I would see if ideas come to me when posting just like the stitching decisions. So here's my new cupboard that is the same depth as the mantel.
I received quite a few emails about the shelter. The program we have here is wonderful. There are undisclosed locations of furnished apartments that women are taken to. They are allowed to stay there rent free for a year while they look for a job or make plans for living arrangements. At that time, if donations come in for additional furniture, they can take those pieces or the ones from their apartment that the donations replace. Someone comes to pick up your household items and clothing in order to keep locations secret. Every item is appreciated right down to a crock pot and flatware.
I have to tell you this purse story. I went to JCP and found a nice pair of foot treads (winter shoes) for my nephew's son, but forgot they had emailed a 20% coupon to me that morning. While browsing I spotted a purse that was just to my liking, and knowing how I always procrastinate, made sure they had several. Mark and I went to the store after his work day, got the 20% back, and could not find the purse I saw earlier. I stood there, stared at the shelves, and couldn't believe they were gone since the displays were completely filled. I wandered in circles around the purses about a dozen times, browsing....staring....intensely searching, and hunching over more with each pass to get a closer look. It was like someone moved my food dish. Man, I hope there were no security people watching me on video. "Hey! There's that messy haired woman again! Look at her - bent over and sneaking around like she's looking for a bug or a mouse. Twenty bucks says she'll go another round!" Never did find it.
I also wanted to mention that a giveaway is coming up.
Thank you for visiting!
Wishing no one moves your food dish.
Stay tuned!

love your mantel! denise
Hey Marly!
Your decorating is just gorgeous,I love all your stitched pieces.
That is funny about JCP, I would tell the clerk that you left your coupon at home, lots of times they have one that they can give you or at least they will hold the item until you get back.
Sigh...love all your Santas as usual! I have been there, done that as far as the "moving" dilemma. I swear, they could have 500 of something I want and when I go in the next day, they are all sold!! Then I do the circle thing over and over, then Al has to suffer my rants all the way home. He's tough, he can take it!---:) ---Jan
Love your little cabinet with all your Santas.. Those 4 on the top row are fabulous !
Love your display : ) I wander in circles while in stores too for the same reason. We would make quite a pair shopping together : )

Have a nice week, Evelyne
Same thing's happened to me when I procrastinated on buying something. So frustrating!
Love the cabinet and santas. Would you mind sharing what pattern the little "Christmas" pillow at the bottom of the santas is?
Joyce
LUV your sampler Santas displayed on the mantle with the newly acquired shelf... it is working out very nicely too. It all looks so wonderfully festive.
You just inspired me again to get busy and start stitchin'. I have done all the decorating I am going to do. Just wished it would snow! I am really slowing down and I hate that feeling. Been married for 51 years to the same ole guy, my best friend. We went to HS together but never dated 'til he got out of the Army. We were 23 when married & now you know.
WOW, have I gotten off on a tangent. I do that well...it comes with age.
Keep the Christmas Spirit, with Joy, Peace and Blessings,
Barb
Your mantel is looking wonderful. I love the way the box looks!
Love how you decorated your mantel.
Have a wonderful day~Becky
I love all your stitchery on the mantle...so festive.
What a wonderful program going on for these women - there's one here where I live very similar to it as well. We donate all we don't need to them when we can.
Oh I love the purse story - how incredible that so many would have sold so quickly but I sure would loved to have seen the display you put on...lol loved it.

Marly ~
Your mantle looks wonderful. I always struggle with mine and it seems I end up decorating it the same every year.
What a great program for helping those in need. I wish I had found something like that here when I was getting rid of my mom's stuff!
Hugs :)

Oh my gosh, I thought I commented on this. Then I found it still up on my browser. lol! I am in love with your mantel!!!! Love those Santas -- all of them! Very interesting about the shelters too. And the purse story. lol! Oh dear!
Love the mantel. Don't change it, it looks picture perfect. Spend your energy working on something new to stitch.
Sorry to hear about the purse.
The shelter secrecy and set up sounds wonderful.
It's wonderful, I love it and thanks for the free!
Have a good day, Mickaëla from France!
Your mantel looks beautiful...I can't wait to see your "Prairie Schooler" tree :)
Smiles, DianeM
Beautiful! Your mantel is ever so festive and welcoming.
Warmly. Judy
Your decorations are B-E-A-Utiful!! I need to glue myself to my chair so I can get some seasonal stitching done. ACK! Thanks for the inspiration.
Wonderful mantel Marly.
I hate, hate, hate when that happens with a purchase. I second guess myself and usually want it later. Hate it when it's gone. :(
Thank you for the info on postal santa! Will try to find him if I don't have him in my stash!! Happy Holidays!
Love the shots of your mantle, Marly!! Your new black cabinet looks quite at home--the tiny stitchings tucked into the drawers are so charming. And I never get tired of seeing the BOAF "boys"--I need to get busy and stitch my own set...
Really like the whispy greens that you have on display with the santas. Did you buy them locally?
Your mantle is beautifully decorated!
Your mantle looks very nice, with that new cupboard on it! That was a great find! Too bad about the purse... just wasn't mean to be I guess. Hugs!
I have drooled over your Postman Santa for over a year. Thank you for telling us where we could find him. He's just wonderful! Your cupboard is the best but last year's mantle was great too! I like how you decorate with your stitcheries and they are not all framed... Mary A
Gorgeous, love the BOAF Santas, I need to stitch mine :-).
You know ... I've been wanting to know for ages where you found that Postman Santa (each time I saw it in your header) but I never got around asking! Thanks for sharing and off to buy the book ;-)!
Kind greetings,
Ann
P.S.: I love your little display with Santa ornaments and greenery a lot (must keep that in mind)!
Haha...I read the title of the post as drooling...oops I guess that's what I'm doing! Loove your santas and those boughs of fir!!
