Greetings. How's the weekend going? Are you finding the things that you had in your hand a minute ago and magically disappeared? Are you carrying these items with you like they are stuck to your hand and depositing them elsewhere, a place you would never think them to be? Are you getting frustrated while you climb over tables, chairs, stacks of flooring, bakeware, and stitching supplies? Are you wondering if someone deliberately took it while a hidden camera is studying the detonation timetable of menopause subjects?

A long ago method of drying beans for winter use which is so simple. I saw several photos of buttery and kitchen cupboards with a long strand across the top as garland or hanging straight down along the side. I couldn't find any really long ones so I decided to try making my own.
You can string them from the ends so they hang straight down but I prefer the center. Robin featured this string on her blog The Cranky Crow.
I used a large doll making needle with cotton string to pierce the beans. The smaller needle worked just as well, but the larger created a hole large enough to move them along the string easily, so I can slide them together as they shrink.
Here's mine drying in the garage. It's pretty heavy right now and I used over 2# of fresh firm beans. Allowing it to hang straight down will probably give me a better result.
I made another little pillow and changed the blues to rusty browns. I'll probably do another this evening and maybe put the crowns from the sampler design within the heart. It's such a quick and fun stitch! This afternoon I will muddle through the mess and pull out the sampler charts. Choosing the linen is harder than the design.
I need to continue my search for a few items but taking time for the swing usually calms me down. My single seat one that we had made for mom will go really high and the more uptight I am, the higher I go. It's time to crank it up! One day Mark will come home and find me sprawled out on top of the arbor.

Never heard of strung up green beans...why dry them? Is it ornamental or saved for soups?! I feel silly asking...anywho...lovely little stitch you made. Very sweet! I would love to have a single swing to swing on. Swinging has a lovely calming affect that I need sometimes too!

Oh I love these .
Lasr year I made several garlands of them and every couple inches I added several cranberries...I love it.

Fun! I would love to string some, but so many other things seem more important...sigh. Just not enough hours in the day. Hopefully I can retire on of these days...even bigger sigh!!!

I have seen beans strung on mantels on Primitive blogs I want to do some.. I should get them done so they will be dry by Fall.
I love green beans to eat too so don't know how many will get strung and how many will be eaten.
Have never seen a single seated garden swing.. I know you love it.
They sure are relaxing to swing on. They make a "gal" feel like a kid again. I love the one I have on my deck.

I,too, will be stringing some green beans soon! I didn't realize you can just let them dry out in the garage or wherever... I thought maybe they had to be done in a dehydrater or oven.... Love Karen's idea of putting some cranberries in with them.... would look great for Christmas!

I absolutely LOVE your blog and read it faithfully. I made my own pear design after looking at all the lovely ones you have done...mine is a partridge in a pear tree .. alas...I too have lost things and can't find them anywhere...Yet :)
Wow, 2 pounds of beans! They look so pretty right now, all green and fresh. I hope you show progress pics as they dry. I'd love that. I love the pics you showed of dry ones. Beautiful ornament too. Hope all the work at your house doesn't drive you too crazy.
I can't wait to see how the beans work out for you....I can't seem to dry anything properly. I tried to dry a pear with the cloves in it....it was a mess...not sure what I did wrong. Now I'm afraid to try the beans.LOL.. Love your header with all the pears..just beautiful.
LOL I keep attributing it to ghosts in my house as I'm right there with you in frustration. At least you have that great swing. I just talk at the dog. Looking forward to seeing your finished bean string.
I use my porch swing when I'm stressed too, except I can's swing very high because I'd hit the house, lol. When things are really bad, I throw raw eggs at the shed. I like that splat of egg against the shed. Hubby always makes sure to spray off the shed.
