Thank you Faye!

Hi everyone.  Santa is coming along and I'm going through charts for another project.  I should concentrate on Lucy for a while before starting anything else and just may do that.

I mentioned that I was the lucky recipient of Faye's generosity.  And what a perfect win for me - I had this fabric and tried making a large sewing bag, burned it, but saved from the flames were the two strawberries that matched.  So I now have my bag in that fabric along with the berries!!  Thank you again Faye!  I'm thrilled!

Just a few other things.
I went to my local antique store and purchased this bench with dried paint drips!  I can easily make these but even though I have a new and wonderful saw, I don't.  So I bought it instead.  A lot easier!  Not an antique, just beat up, and that's OK with me.  It will look great outside with pots on it this summer.
That made me happy, until I got home.  When backing into the garage I noticed a dark object on the front siding and thought it was a huge moth.  I went to check it out and found that it was a tiny bat, clinging to the siding upside down and not moving.  So I grabbed a box, gloves, and used a container to gently remove him from the siding, and emptied that into the box.  He was motionless and I'm sure very ill.  When he slid into the box he made a little squeak.  This stuff tears me up.  I can't stand for anything to suffer and I know most of you want nothing to do with saving a bat, but it's a creature and that's all that matters to me.  I believe we are judged by how we treat His creatures.  All of them.  I should have extra points for that *#%! woodpecker.  I called Mark to tell him and he said it probably has that white nose disease that is killing off the bat population.  A travesty to the ecosystem and nature.  They are awakened from hibernation and try to look for food.  It is too cold for them and they eventually die a slow death.  He's in his box in the garage and I have never been able to put an animal out of its misery, so I have to wait for Mark to come home.  He's not happy with me, but I took precautions and there was no way I could have been bitten, and I was afraid the brat cats would see him and start torturing him like they recently did to a poor chipmunk.  But he will have to end his suffering.
Moving on - my kitchen.  I obviously misled everyone about my cabinet painting.  They were painted a few years ago and the kitchen was never completely finished.  Now I will be picking another color and rearranging the cabinets and layout.  The stove area will be a different color and further out than the base cabinets, and the fridge will be behind a cabinet made to look like a cupboard, also a different color.  My husband is an oak lover and it was a process of gathering photos to show and kitchen showrooms that finally convinced him.  Now he agrees totally and sees that the darkness and especially the grain, cluttered the look in a small kitchen.  Much neater, cleaner, crisp, and soothing now.  Oak is a beautiful wood and unpainted kitchens are best sellers, but not for me. I wanted to show the difference painting made and how it saved me from considering $$$$$$ for a new kitchen.   Most older cabinets are worth the effort.   I'll leave you with a few more photos, the first is Bryce Ritter's.

Last night we ate the final dozen of my sweet cottage cheese pierogis from the freezer.  No one around here carries dry cottage cheese anymore so I haven't made them and probably won't ever again.  I may try using the regular cottage cheese recipe as in the cheese blintzes but it won't be the same at all.  I finally found a fabulous dough recipe that includes sour cream and the pierogis were so much easier to wrap and pinch with it.   Beautiful satin dough!   Oh well.  I guess the sweet cheese crepes/blintzes will have to do.
Mark will be home soon and I'm getting nervous about what will happen so I will close.
Enjoy your weekend everyone.  Thank you for visiting!

Can't you make pierogis from Farmer's Cheese? I think that my MIL makes them with that - it's a dry cheese. I should ask her to make sure. They're good though. She rarely makes them - I have to ask for them - usually it's kraut or potato and occasionally prune. I love me some cheese ones though.

Wonderful gift from Faye!!

I read with great interest your comments about the bat. I spent many years as a volunteer at a wildlife rehab facility and have worked with bats. I would suggest that you locate a licensed rehab facility in PA. You can find one by going to pawr.com which lists rehabbers by county. This is the Pennsylvania Assoc of Wildlife Rehabilitators. Good luck with helping the little guy!

Great bag Marly and great bench too. How sad about the bat, they are such wonderful creatures, we have a lot of them here.
Look forward to seeing your kitchen now, all painted lol.

Just be careful with the bat, that's all I ask. It really is sad the little thing is ill. Lovely prize from Faye -- love the strawberries you made. The bench is so pretty! You have to stop showing pretty kitchen pictures. We won't be able to afford to remodel our kitchen for ages and ages. Maybe never. :( Oh, btw, my boxes came and I love them!!!! Thank you! Forgot to email you to tell you.

Faye's bags are so lovely and your strawberries looks great with the bag.
Poor bat... I didn't know about the disease that is plaguing the poor things. So sad.

Glad you were careful in handling the bat. The white nose disease is very worrisome. We've noticed our bat population has decreased dramatically since we've lived here. :(

Hello Marly - I'm a new follower - found my way over from Lauren's.....I have been trying to limit the "new blogs" I choose to follow as I haven't been doing so well at keeping up with everyone, but have read through some of your past posts and just couldn't resist. Great progress on your new Santa - and I'm turning green over your kitchen redo. Ours desperately needs help (it's not been touched since it was built almost 30 years ago....we have all wood finish cabinetry which I no longer care for - but given our open floor plan and all the other wood in the house, painting them would make them stand out like a red-headed stepchild. Ughhh. I so need help. Looking forward to getting to know you better....Good luck with the bat. They're not my favorite critter - but I do know they are very beneficial. Poor lil' guy. Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Oh Marly, I love that you helped the bat. I'm with you and cannot stand to see an animal suffer. Any creature really. Bats are an essential part of the ecosystem, as you say and although they may look scary, they are pretty harmless to humans. Anyway, just wanted to say that I appreciate how tenderhearted you are, even toward the &*##$)@ woodpecker, lol!

Your Santa is coming along nicely, glad you got the problems with his head worked out, lol!

Wow! Faye obviously made the perfect selection for you. :) Oh Marly, God bless you. I feel exactly the same about all creatures. Let me also say, God bless Mark with this situation. :(

I know exactly how you felt finding that bat. God bless your tender heart. And pierogies!!! I haven't been cooking much of anything since John had several teeth pulled as there isn't much he can eat & I don't see the sense of making a "real" meal just for me. However, I totally forgot that I had pierogies in the freezer! No wonder ... they were hiding behind the ice cream. As soon as I read about you having pierogies I remembered having them so guess what I'm going to be enjoying for dinner ... lol! Pierogies! Pyszne! (That's polish for "delicious!") Congratulations on your win from Faye! I love your blue bench too : )

As always, Marly, it's interesting to come and visit your blog and read your posts.

You were brave with the bat! I hope somehow you've found some help for it but maybe it was too late for that.

Love how that Santa is looking. Lovely gift from Faye. She does gorgeous work!

Oh the kitchen photos! I want a kitchen makeover now!

ps Love that little bench and my jaw dropped when you can just whip one of those up!!! I would love one but I suppose it would be too big to fit into an envelope. lol.

Marly I am with you on loving animals so much. Were you able to get it to a rehab center? I could not put anything out of its misery. I feel bad even killing an ant when they get into the bathroom. Love your kitchen and strawberries. My husbands family is polish and so pierogies are something we enjoy. Though we haven't made them that way. Would you please send me the recipe. I would like to try it. Have you ever had Nalesnik Deserowy? Its a delicious polish desert like crepes. I would gladly send you a recipe. Let us know what happened with the bat.

I think that the creatures know that you have a tender heart for them. That's why they come to your house. :)
Love your bench and the kitchen pictures!

Glad you liked the pouch....And, it definitely goes with your strawberry creations as well~~

The bench...is too perfect!

Lovely pouch from Faye--that's so neat how it was the same fabric that you had made your strawberries from!

I'll tell you, Marly--I am terrified--absolutely terrified of bats. I grew up in a 100+ year old house that had them in the attic and they would sometimes get down into the second floor and come in our bedrooms at night... I would rather see just about any kind of creature than a bat--even a snake!

Love your bench--it so reminds me of one my grandma had in her kitchen :)

Lovely pouch from Faye. You were definitely meant to have that as you already had matching accessories for it.
What a sad tale about the little bat and what a shame it didn't have a happy ending in spite of your care.

The cabinets look amazing! I love the wood look but I have noticed the difference between my house & my neighbor's house. Hers is all painted white and mine has a lot of wood, and consequently much darker.

Faye's bag looks great!

Love how your Black Santa is looking. You inspired me with your Green Santa back at Christmas time, so I just got him started this week. I love him so far! I may use your envelope finishing method for him too. Thanks for the inspiration!
