Hi all. Did you ever start thinking about an item and then get nutsy about it? I found a cache of baskets in the attic, some are just ordinary baskets, and some are from many years ago at the shop where I sold items. They carried only one source - Basketville. The lady that painted the needlepoint canvases also painted the tops of picnic baskets and I think that's how it started. I'm assuming the quality is the same as it was, all ash, and very sturdy. If you're interested in a good picnic or pie basket, or any other style, check their site here.
The little one in the first photo is from their site and it's their Treasure Basket. Adorable.
The garden styles are also very sturdy and the large size is where Fanny lives for now.
Picnic baskets make great wedding gifts as do many of their styles for any occasion, especially for those who have everything. These are basic utilitarian styles, not the Cherokee Comb and other fabulous designs we see from basket makers.
The Putney Spoke bottom is closest to these old ones but the ash strips look narrower. I've clicked on each category and found quite a few styles that I would like to order. Think I have a problem? See? I told you I was nutsy. Sometimes you are so used to seeing items that you forget to really look at them and admire their form. I guess you could say I love these baskets.
I worked out my kitchen cabinet plans and only have a few things to tweak. This guy was kind of excited when I showed him what I planned and is anxious to work on the project which means I got the right guy! He told me what the hourly rate per man is and although I expected it to be high, I was quite surprised at how high.
Remember, if you're entering the Lydia offer, it is for the finished piece, not the chart.
Have a great week and if not sooner, I'll be back Friday!
Thank you so much for visiting!

Oh I love baskets! lol! I love how you have the sampler displayed in the bottom of the garden basket -- so clever!
Oh Marly you've got a basket treasure trove, fabulous!!!! I just love baskets and when I'm in the states that's what I will hunt for! How lovely is the sampler in the basket, gorgeous.
You are in for a treat soon, hopefully you won't get rid of it in one!!
Have a lovely week:))
Look at all those fabulous baskets!!! Your samplers look so gorgeous displayed that way...how clever you are! Thanks for sharing your source for these beauties.

The Basketville shop just 15 minutes away from me closed down...such a shame! There is another smaller one about an hour away....your post makes me want to hop in the car and go for a ride!
I got my 3 favorite baskets from a Basketville store when it was in Myrtle Beach, SC...They are gray and in the shaker style...I hated when they closed or I might have a collection like yours by now...lol
I have 2 Basketville picnic baskets and a Basketville pie basket. The pie basket I bought because mom always wanted one . When she passed, I got it back. They both have painted lids--not by me-I hadn't really started painting then. I just love how your samplers look in them. When I was at my show this past weekend in Delaware Ohio, I went into an antique shop there. OMG what gorgeous antique samplers!! LOADS of them...and VERY pricey. I had never seen an antique one before in person--just amazing!! Some were $800-1000 each!! I so appreciate the work you put into yours.--Jan
Oh, I love those baskets. They are all so beautiful.
Oh....Marly Girl....you got me here....I LOVE me my baskets!! And these are some splendid examples!! I may be a little "behind the times" (hey, I live in Nod....), but I never heard of Basketville. There are a few dealers I know of who do the Longaberger - and I have several of those; and of course I love the oldies....but these look like very fine baskets indeed. Good luck to your sis on Eye #2 - and hoping those kitties fare well....Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
Basketville was one of my favorite stores to visit when we would vacation in Lancaster, PA years ago. I was so sad to discover they closed that store. We are in the process of cleaning and reorganizing our basement, and I have a bunch of baskets down there, but before I get rid of them, I will take a second look before I do. You have inspired me!
I hope that everything goes well the next couple of days Marly.
I am also glad to hear that the cat situation is progressing. My Mom's recent interloper got fixed this week.
The baskets are wonderful.
I hope that the chocolate withdrawel evens out. It usually takes a couple of weeks for me to get that sugar craving out of my system. Until then I really resent it :)
What a wonderful baskets !!!
That is wonderful of you and your brother to take such good care of those cats. :) Awesome baskets. Marly, I just walk more, instead of giving up the dark chocolate. Just saying!♥
What a fabulous basket collection, Marly--love how you've displayed the sampler in the bottom of one!
I keep trying to give up my chocolate addiction, Marly, but end up falling back into it's clutches each and every time! For me, it's not a weight thing--my weight is fine. I just think the amount I eat is unhealthy... Try walking both in the morning and and night to lose weight. I'll bet you'll see some results soon...Too bad I don't live a bit closer--I'd volunteer to walk with you :)
Glad you've found a kitchen guy--I'm sure you're anxious for your project to finally get started!
Your samplers are just beautiful. Love how you display them in the baskets.
