Does that mean gratitude can change your mood?
Not necessarily.
Can you be thankful for what you have and still be a crabass?
Living proof.
Does knowing others are worse off lighten your mood?
Not necessarily.
It just makes you more grateful, not less crabby.
How about when you spend a lot of money on a fresh and natural no antibiotic and no hormone turkey and breast, and the meat squeaks when sliced? Tastes unusual? Must be swallowed whole for fear of breaking a tooth?
Not really.
How about when the fresh market squash you bought has a secret inside?
Nope.
How about when there is more pie filling on the bottom of the oven than in the pie?
Keep going.
Maybe when you shop at 10pm for another breast and will be up all night thawing it for an early roasting?
Getting close.
Or when the doors on your new expensive cabinets are so warped you need to buy wood and make new ones yourself?
Not quite.
How about when you sit down and think about all the things that DO go right, and the people that are still with us, and the fact that we are still here to crab?
Bingo.
Many people go through mood swings, depression, sadness, isolation, grief, stress, loss. And how many times do we tell them to be grateful, even during hard times, because there is always someone worse off? It's true, but in many cases it is not that simple and their burden cannot be lightened with that thought. They may believe it, and know they are better off than some, but don't be upset with them if that fact doesn't make them feel better.
Just a thought on a day of Thanks. I'm doing well, hope you are too.
Happy Thanksgiving to you.

Glad you are well (even if you're still crabby). Happy Thanksgiving, Marly! We are above the ground so that's definitely something to be thankful for.
There's a lot to thank for, even for small things, no matter where, no matter what. All you have to do is take the time to discover and notice these little things. I am grateful for every day that I can get up in the morning and feel fine.
Happy Thanksgiving,
greetings from Germany, Martina
Thank you Marly, for putting into words what I have thought so often. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family - I sincerely hope the new year brings you health and good fortune - you deserve it!

So glad that you are thankful, Marly. Sometimes it is hard to see through the forest of problems and be thankful for the blessings that we do have. Happy Thanksgiving! I hope that Turkey breast tastes delicious.
Happy thanksgiving from my heart to yours.
I'm so glad I found you & your blog! It's nice to read I'm not the only one feeling crabby - I *know* there are people worse off, way so far worse off, than I am. But why does it give others the right to say how I should feel?! Or think. Or do. Anyway - I hope the rest of your Thanksgiving has only happy surprises.
We are all thankful for our families and good health and enough to eat. Everything else is just stuff...enjoy your day.
We are with family ... Hope all are enjoying "Glad Thanksgiving Tidings" as we are.
Peace and Blessing for all,
Barb
I am thankful when you blog. The dining room looks wonderful.
Marly: I agree with you one hundred percent.
What the heck was in that squash? ewwww.
Happy thanksgiving
Catherine
You are so right. Many years ago I learned from my daughter that trying to cheer her up all the time was having the opposite effect. Plus from her I learned that it is just not normal to be happy all the time! All this does not mean you are not thankful.
Good post Marly! Thank you 🙂
Feeling emotions..good and bad... is what makes us able to help someone else out. I have found when I’m down I will talk more easily to someone who has been in the trenches themselves. Those who have those apparently perfect worlds... I think... I could not begin to explain this🤦♀️
What a beautiful post!
Your words were so true. Many times when I'm hurting or sad or whatever I always tell myself there are people worse off than that and I stop my wallowing...I feel blessed everyday.
Blessings to you and yours Marly
Karen
