A new sampler?

Greetings.  Did you have a great weekend?  Did you have to wear a sweatshirt?  Are you as upset as I am that summer is over?  The shortest one ever!!

I had no intention to browse for a new chart, and honestly, don't know where online to view new samplers without spending a great deal of time going through all new releases.  There are many I have missed over the years, and I guess this is one.
Jannet Spiers by NeedleWorkPress.  I happened to peruse Facebook's stitching sites and spotted what I believe is the original piece.  Looking at this photo of the chart is not appealing to my taste.  Seeing that aged original on a beautiful tan linen was a different reaction.  I love it.  I have many R&R charts that are not that eye catching on the chart, but with a different fabric and color scheme, they are.  Weird isn't it?  The design should be what attracts us to a project but sometimes seeing the original or a different linen changes it completely.  For me, anyway.  I may actually order this one.
Would love to show you the photo I saw but I don't know if we can share posted FB photos.  But after playing with the colors in the photo program, this is similar.

This little girl is munching on mushrooms she is harvesting from the yard.  Full of various types and lots of fallen leaves.

This is what Mark did with the leftover pieces of wood from the cabinet.  Years ago he made a short height footstool for Carole, a boxed style that is more stable than legs.
Standing too close to the edge will not tip it.  She keeps it by her bed which helps her get in and out much easier, and she also moves it to the tub.  Its 4 1/2" height is just enough for an assist.  She requested this one at 5 1/2" and we added a sturdy handle on the side for easier handling.

All that's left is adding the no-slip strips to the top since the wood is smooth and slippery.  It was sealed with a spray of clear enamel.

For Anonymous -the built in cabinet, we sanded lightly (steel wool) after staining and then used Collinite solid paste wax (a car wax found in auto stores) which gives a soft sheen and waterproofing.  It can also be used over acrylic varnish, I'm not a fan of polyurethane which can't be painted over or refinished easily.

Painting the powder room tomorrow and waiting for the hinges to arrive.  Tried a new eye drop, I think I've tried every single brand, and it's no different than the others.  Similasan seems to be the easiest to apply and the most soothing.

Have a good day to start the last week of summer!

Thanks for visiting.

Love the new cabinet -- you're lucky to have a handy guy. I've missed lots of new sampler charts over these years. Always nice to find one that you like. I am liking the cooler weather myself, but on the other hand, I want it to not get too chilly either. lol! Just that nice comfy temp for day, and not too cold at night. I'm picky. :D

Mark does nice work. I like the varying shelf heights also. That's some gorgeous wood used and I am glad not all will be covered in paint. I was influenced at a young age by my Mom - some woods just shouldn't be painted! I heard too much bad language from her directed toward those who painted the furniture she was refinishing.

I try not to look at too many charts. But somehow, for someone who doesn't particularly like to do cross stitch, I certainly have plenty.

I love the idea of the footstool. Many of us will need this as we age. Thank you,Roann

Marly, while you are lamenting the end of summer, I am begging for some relief from the heat. Still facing 100 degree days here in North Texas. Needlework Press offers some truly stunning sampler reproductions- love to look at their offerings, but not so keen on stitching them.

Hi Marly,
Like Debbie, I am also looking for relief from the triple digits we are still having, but thankfully, the mornings are a bit cooler at low 80's so that makes our walks workable!! If I could send you some of our warmer weather, I would do it in a heartbeat!!!
Love the footstool your talented hubby made and I'm sure Carole will love it!! Great idea to make it in the box shape! Those would also be nice with a hinged lid for added storage!
That chart is lovely and I'm sure you would enjoy adding it to your collection!!
Have a great week!
Heart Hugs~

I love having the a/c off and the windows open. I HATE the thought of cold weather. I will be a crab ass along with you.
What a difference in the chart once it is toned down!

I am a Flosstube Junkie and although I don't have any interest in stitching a sampler, if I were to, I would choose Saviour's Praise by Theresa V (a.k.a. the Kitten Stitcher). I love the backwards deer at the bottom and the 3 sided border which has a different design on each border. It has a nice house and basket also. It also comes as a download or a paper pattern. I would get burned out if I had to do the same design on all the borders and I'm not into a lot of alphabets or words so I guess that's one reason I'm not into samplers but I do love her Flosstube channel. Brian whose Flosstube is Blitstitch just started her sampler not long ago. Have a great day.

Beautiful box that Mark made for Carole and very handy too.
Love the darker sampler too and it is difficult when you see online all the charts coming by not to fall in love and but it for when ever to stitch.
I'm not a fan of flosstube-so time waisting.
Have a great day and hope your eyes will get better soon.

I like the samplers in more saturated colors as well... I often wondered (when I hook an antique rug in faded colors to make it look antique) if 100 years from now it will have faded to nothing? lol!
Love that step box!
