Get this straight

Make the door one row wider so it centers under the window.  Done.  Not the first change I've made to this and certainly won't be the last.

And this is a big one coming up.  I love this sampler.  I do.  But it's flat.  If I had access to overdyed threads and could hand pick a skein that wasn't all over the place, I would.  A rarely use those threads for that very reason and have stitched many a house with DMC.  But this one, right at the top, sort of large and very pale in color, needs something.  I could carry on with the rest and wait for a few skeins of overdyed to come (I trust the subtlety of Colour & Cotton, maybe even Weeks) or I could pattern the house.  My blocks of stitches are so much nicer when I do the horizontal/vertical method.  For overdyed, filling it in with vertical rows and then completing the stitch with horizontal rows works.  No need for individual stitches and allows me to use my preferred sewing method and still get the shading.  Sounds easier than my other idea.  Brick it.  Brick it good.  More work for sure, but using the called for 738 with maybe 422 would be such a subtle difference and give it a little ...... depth.  What say you??

I spent part of the very warm Friday dipping my pinkish linens into a diluted green bath.  I can't tell you pleased I am with the result.  Yes I can.  I'm pickled tink!!  The Faun is now very neutral and looks closer to the Vellum I am seeking (123Stitch is on back order as are all the shops listing 36/40 count) and I am so happy with it.  A few others were also done and blowing in the breeze.

I soaked my 28 count unbleached and after a dozen times, finally had rinse water than wasn't dark brown.  It's a little lighter, a little tighter, close to a 30 count.

Leaves leaves leaves and then leaves.  We've never seen them fall so rapidly.  Three days in a row where so heavy no grass could be seen.  I'm tired.  Thank goodness for mom's shower chair that I can height adjust for landscape work and push myself out of with those side handles.  This is AFTER we were done on Saturday.

Hope the weekend is a good one!

Marly: Okay I love the idea of the shower chair, you are a very smart Lady, That is what I should use my Mothers chair for, thank-you for the idea.
I have had to make changes myself even with the few over-dyes I have, some designers just do not think that some people do not have all the over-dyes on hand.
I like the idea of mixing the two colors together.
I am so loving the birds, they are adorable.
We mulch the leaves in the fall, we refuse to pick-up or rake, plus the grass gets some well needed nutrients from the mulch leaves.
Have a great day.

P.S.
It is snowing here now at 14:00

Like Catherine said, the shower chair IS a smart idea! I’ve heard other countries are not so adamant about raking up leaves as the US, and it is rather silly that we rake them up so that the lawn fertilizer we buy at the store can reach the grass. Seems like a lot of extra work and expense on our part, doesn’t it?

Your post is chock full of good ideas. Dipping the pinkish linen into a green bath? Genius! Glad it worked!

Now I have a question: When you said, “For overdyed, filling it in with vertical rows and then completing the stitch with horizontal rows works,” are you saying complete the first leg of the stitch in vertical rows, then do the second leg of the stitch in horizontal rows? I’ve never heard of this. Do I have this right? You’re blowing my mind. What is this wild stitchery of which you speak?

So Marly, are you saying if you dip the pinkish linens in green they come out more neutral? I love the idea of the brick house but definitely more work.

Well, probably not what you want to hear, but I say "brick it." Sounds like it would be perfect!! And, yeah...I'm as baffled as Meg.....I thought you were going to say to all the first stitches of a cross across horizontally, and then come back with the other part of the stitch...but that doesn't make any sense now that I think of it either. You're giving me a headache LOL...but then again it might be brain freeze as I am eating my second turtle sundae in as many days....as it snows....again. Gah!!!! Needless to say, our leaves are long gone...we don't rake in the fall...with the winds we have here, I am pretty sure ours end up in your yard LOL. ~Robin~

Leaves are falling fast here too. Swept my deck and the next day it was covered again with soaking wet ones.
Am bringing my leaf blower in the house to have ready when they dry out. No more sweeping with the broom.
Have fun with your house........I know it will be beautiful !
Have a good week !

I've never heard of stitching large areas like you do. I'm not sure *how* it works with over-dyed threads, but will take your word that it does, or you wouldn't do it. Maybe I'll even remember to try it. I have a little garden bench/kneeler that I've really been glad I kept from Dad's stuff. I think there were days I'd have had to crawl back to the house without it. I guess at least if the leaves are falling that fast, dealing with them will end sooner.

Leaves, leaves, leaves. The bane of my existence. They are ankle deep here, again. I live in the woods. Oh well. We have one of the big leaf pick up things you hook onto the tractor. Well, it is tucked neatly behind the tractor that has been modified for its use. That tractor has a flat tire. And it goes on.

I am so glad your dying went as planned. I am not that brave. Looks like fancy undies blowing in the breeze!

How about one strand of DMC....mixed with one strand of a suitable variegated machine thread? It might give you a little more control over the colour....

You have me totally befuddled as to the horizontal/vertical stitching. I'd have to see it to understand. I don't used dyed threads because I do horizontal rows and the effect is just not there. But than again, I don't stitch much :)
