A start

as soon as I choose a freaking linen.  BBD's book Ooh la la offers a sweet pouch with a simple design.
Kezia requires too much thought right now and as happened before, this book slid off the pile and was on the floor.  Best way to choose the next project, let the stitching spirits do it.  This book was not even in the running!  But I realize now, the perfect choice.

I went through the linens and plan to use 36 count.  Recommended 32 count would be a little larger pouch but I prefer the mottled fabrics and have none in the lower counts.  I have one piece of PTP Legacy barely enough for a larger sampler and do not want to cut it.
Many models in this book were done on Oaken and they look exactly as I would prefer, but several floss tube videos claim it to be very green as is Veldt.  Is it?  We've all been through it except the lucky ducks that can see fabric before purchasing.  I just don't understand the green in everything.  Hazelwood sounded brownish and lo and behold, it's exactly like the Affogato, pinkish ground with olive green, not brown, mottling.

Or is it the other way around because my other Affogato is much lighter (yes, both are the same color).   So which one is the real Affogato?   I'm seeing a trend here and future purchases will be with other dyers.
And I showed these before, Caramel Macchiato, Buttermilk, and Oatmeal, no difference.  Much darker and much greener than shown here, not a good fit for the project.  Colour & Cotton and PTP have been the most consistent and reliable color wise.

There is another chart in this book, also red, very similar in size that could be a second pouch, and even a third red sampler that is slightly larger.  Three red samplers, simple and similar, hanging together on a peg sounds good to me.  Linen?  Who knows.  But if I plan to stitch all three, should they be the same linen?  Probably not.  Similar?  Yes.

I want to thank everyone for the sweet cards we received.  This one is handmade by Brenda and so special. The dogs are gone.  We don't believe anything he reported to police and if they are in fact in Louisiana now, I'm sure they will be fighting, or killing, probably both.  My neighbor that had her cat killed and dog attacked has stopped speaking to me because I didn't pursue a lawsuit.  She had vet bills, emotional trauma to her kids, her husband is an officer, but it was all put on me.  She wanted the dogs removed so her children can once again go outside.  Accomplished.  But she is still ticked, and that's her problem.  After speaking with others, I do not believe we would prevail.  Missy is beside herself and constantly searching for her son even though she was sniffing him and knew he had passed.  I'm still not sleeping well, to be expected, some visions are hard to forget.

Good news - Carole is being fitted for the prosthesis.  Finally healed and her new neighbor is a gem.  They are at the end of the hall with a glass door that leads to the largest porch, very private area.  Staffing is suffering, I don't understand why people are not working now but did at the worst time.  Signs for help everywhere and the facilities are no different.

Hope May brings peace, comfort, warmth to all.

I think even I could stitch that little sampler, but then I would just add it to the pile of things stitched but not done.
Sad your neighbor is taking things out on you. You have enough going on without someone laying a guilt trip on you.
Great news for Carole ;-)

Why is your neighbor mad at you? Don’t you have the right to be mad at them for not doing anything before your furry friend was attacked? Perhaps I’m confused, but I thought their incident was before yours. At any rate, why did they do zilch?

Good news for Carole! What an ordeal she has been through. And you and Mark as well. Her living conditions sound quite nice…I would love having that big, private porch to retreat to in nice weather. My 91 year old mom is in a rehab center now, soon to be transferred to the nursing care side of their facility. I would love for her to have something like that where she could rest. Sounds very peaceful. My best to all.

Happy May Day! Last things first. I am so glad Carole is getting her prosthesis. This is such a positive step for her. It is not an easy transition, of course, but time and physical therapy will help with that. About the staffing issues. My friends still in the business tell me that burnout is such a serious problem. So many, particularly ancillary personnel are moving on to other fields where the money is the same or better. No matter how many hamburgers you flip no one cries, no one dies. Sad but true.

Linens online are so hard for me to choose. I have sort of given up for a while. Everything has that tinny-green cast. Or a dirty pink-mauve undertone. I am just not good at making the right choice.

Your future projects look so nice. I am anxious to see how the pouch works out.

I think you made the right choice by not pursuing litigation in this case. I think you are correct, this was a No-win situation. If the peeved one thinks it is, it is their right to do just that. Their attitude reveals a cowardly approach to their own problem, seeking you to step in and be the mouthpiece that they obviously cannot produce. The loss is real, the sadness surrounding it is real as well. Some things are better left unsaid.

So happy and thankful that Carole will be getting a prosthesis. It has been a long haul for her and the whole family.
Thank God the dogs are gone. It takes all kinds to make a world......your neighbor should be thanking you instead of not speaking. You did what it took to get rid of the dogs, not her.
So sad for Missy. Have been thinking of you and Mark. I know you've had so many emotions to deal with.
Prayers for some peaceful stitching and warmer days ahead.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.

Your neighbor is an ass, so is her husband. Is he afraid of causing issues for a fellow officer, even an ex-officer already facing other charges? Nope, I'm not going to put it all on her. THEY'd have had a better chance in a lawsuit because she had a dog that was attacked and had vet bills from it. I fear cats don't seem to get the same respect in court for damages, especially when the damages were not monetary. THEY have traumatized kids to plead for sympathy on. Sadly and wrongly, your's, Mark's, and Missy's mental stress from the event and after doesn't count for anything as far as the law is concerned. Their cat & dog were attacked first, and THEY did nothing to raise the alarm. I'm glad the dogs are gone, but worry for their new location. Yes, once again I'm peeved on your behalf :-)

Yay for Carole on the healing and prothesis progress, and the new roomie being a good one. As to staffing woes, they probably held out through the worst, and now they are simply burned out on too many fronts. And many are moving on to other things while there are so many job openings, or to nothing (at least for a while).

The more I read of disappointing linen orders, the more tempted I am to stick with plain old boring antique white. Or give dyeing my own a try (thanks again for sending me the information). I may as well, I did get some dye and have lots of little remnants to experiment on. I agree, the BBD book fell off the pile to give a big hint on what to stitch next.

I agree with JustGail, I was going to say the same thing about your neighbor but she said it first. I am so so sorry for your sweet lost. I would die if something happened to my Jasmine,

I am glad Carol is doing better. I can't believe how now there are so many jobs available. If I did not have such a bad back I would get one.

Big loving hugs to you all. Lynda Ruth

Is there such a thing as sympathy anger? There must be as I am feeling it loud and strong. Count your blessings that she is no longer speaking to you...sounds like she is a woman riddled with issues and that is nothing you be needing right about now. As others said, the onus should have been on her. And, you're right, legal action would likely have added to your frustration, anger, disappointment and indebtedness. Trust me, I'm a lawyer. Anywho...linens. You know I can experience sympathy frustration too, right?? I think I have 5 pieces of supposedly the same linen and no two are even remotely similar. But...I just received a piece of 36ct Oaken that I had on backorder for over a year. Can't even remember which project I ordered it for but probably one of the "Ooo La La" designs as I loved many in that book. Anyhow....it is definitely BROWN. Since I have mountains of other things I know I want to stitch before I possibly remember what this piece might have been for (if, in fact, there even was a specific project in mind when I ordered it), I will happily gift it to you. Please say yes. ~Robin~ (PS...it's 13x18.)

Thank goodness the dogs are "gone" if at least out of your vicinity. I wanted to comment when the incident first occured, but our 14 year old dog was viciously attacked by a pit bull at the vet a few years ago (though she was okay after a few days), and the trauma memories returned so quickly that it was difficult to put together words in any coherent understanding.

I'm so sorry you had to endure that. I can't imagine going through the end that you did. I do hope you'll take comfort in knowing that at least he wasn't alone in his passing, as hard as it will be for you to continue to process and heal.

Please know that you and Mark are in my thoughts and prayers continuously.
