Finally closing in on finishing her bedroom. Many weeks arguing about ridding the clutter and allowing us to arrange and plan a layout, and it should be over in a few days. If there wasn't a hassle from the beginning, this finalized layout would not have been the result. And it's the best, checks all the boxes.

This 18" base cabinet with three deep drawers will be at one end to hold bills, stamps, plates, utensils, napkins, coffee, snacks, etc. A black patterned 6' formica counter top will be added with 4x4 wood legs at the other end. Counter height at 36" will allow her huge chair beneath (it does not fit under standard table height) and be raised to a comfortable position. The access will be almost 4' wide, a rollout narrow shelf stand can slide beneath. Mini fridge in black will set upon a stand for easier access with two open shelves below for puzzles. She will finally eat without having to hold her plate, have a work space for puzzles and correspondence, a counter to hold the coffee maker, photos, and a small but roomy fridge. Eureka!! I thought about painting the cabinet black as the fridge with a butcher block top, but pictured the drawer unit stained with black handles and the black counter (less $$$ too). Yes! Not what the original plan was and happy it took this long. What a difference this will make.
As for stitching, covid leftovers have me up and down but I tested two fabrics for Southward and Needham. I think Southward needs a darker ground and chose a little too green Tobias.
Needham is on a softer Prairie Grass. It's 40 count. Not happy, many errors in its future. But the other Prairie Grass piece was so very different, I have no idea what a newly ordered 36 count would be. So will I stick with these? Damn I hope so.
It's close to 70 degrees.
Hope your week is going swell!
Stitching this evening .... on which? The little rolls, the small sampler, the big gals? Or sit with a bowl of vanilla ice cream topped with walnuts and real maple syrup while watching the tube?

Oh boy! Ice cream with maple syrup and walnuts sounds heavenly. You are a saint Marly! All you have done and are doing for Carole. Amazing. Prairie Grass looks very pretty...I need to find that!
You had me at ice cream/walnuts/etc...but not on Lent menu... Will have
to be content with stitching and some honey pecans.... I cannot imagine anyone else indulging Carole with beauty and comfort the way you and Mark
have done. Bless you both.
It sounds like a wonderful solution to some thorny "issues," and I am glad to read that you are seeing the "gift" in the hassle of getting to that point. Carole is blessed to have such innovative and capable people in her world. Wow...anxious to see how Ms. Needham looks on the Prairie Grass - that is a considerable detour from the fabric that you had kitted. Always good to have a variety of projects going - you know, just in case you get a case of the "funks." ~Robin~ (Was that a trick question? Ice cream of course...but make mine chocolate syrup and walnuts instead of maple syrup.)
PS....70º?! Seriously? No wonder you're in a good mood. We've had...you guessed it...snow...all day. AGAIN.
Marly, you have an awesome plan both for Carole’s needs and your stitching. Carole is so lucky to have both you and your husband, to make her life as easy as possible. I hope she realizes it and appreciates all you do for her. As far as the stitching, whatever fabric and floss colors you go with, it’ll be perfect! I hope you’re doing some stitching tonight with a side of ice cream! We were so happy to have 40 degrees and no ice today. 70’s sounds heavenly! Take care.....Cherie in WI
Thaat will be very helpfull for Carole the cabinet with all her stuff in it.
Hope you enjoyed your icecream and did some stitching.
Take care...Truus from Holland
I'm glad the end to bedroom work at Carole's is in sight. It hasn't been easy trying to compromise needed changes with her wanting to keep all as is. Setting her up with a little kitchenette counter sounds like a wonderful alternative to trying to make the kitchen workable.
My evening stitching ambition seems to have disappeared in December with working on that king-size quilt. Even with your eye issues and stress levels with all the work for Carole, you get so much stitching done.
Vanilla ice cream with maple syrup and walnuts sounds wonderful, though I'd be reaching for pecans instead.
Such a well-thought-through plan for Carole's room, Marly! All I can say is everyone should be so luck to have a sister and brother-in-law like you and Mark! Hope the work will be done soon and you can take more time for yourself ♥
Marly: I think a bowl of ice-cream sounds so yummy, but stitching would be the one for me for sure.
You and your husband are wonderful family to be doing so much for Carole, I hope things have quieted down a bit for her.
I like all the fabric choices; I would have a hard time choosing.
Holy mackerel I wish it was in the 70s here, it is in the twenties, brrrrrr.
