Not what I expected

Here's what I was told at the ortho appointment.

I need an MRI and an ativan to get into it, but not for about 4 weeks unless there is a cancellation.

It appears to be Deep Infrapatellar Bursitis but could also be an injury, and until another month passes and the MRI is taken, there is no PT.

No cortisone injection for 3 months because I took three steroid packs.  My PCP gave me 2 after the first, knowing I had an upcoming appt in 2 weeks for the injection.  Did she not know that would prevent the injection?  Guess not.

No splint or brace was offered, just Meloxicam and Voltaren.  Really?  2 Tylenol and 4 Advil faithfully taken for weeks did nothing, so I have my doubts but will start taking tomorrow and hope for the best.

So if the injection was given in April as it should have been, I would not be in this pain, be able to walk, be able to enjoy summer.  If my PCP did not give me those two additional packs and was knowledgeable, I could have had the injection for relief.

If my sister had cortisone injected every three months before knee replacement WHILE she also took a 5 mg. steroid daily, who is right?

Crabass is an understatement.

I found a new IG and Etsy shop for fabulous sewing patterns and I hope to spend some time browsing this afternoon between yelps and obscenities.

Her fabric choices make the wheels on my rollator spin.

When will I be able to climb steps to get to the sewing machine?  Or shop for fabric?  Maybe that's best since my temperament is not good right now.

Hope yours is swell!!

Hi Marly, about your injection. I have had RA for 32 years and been on Prednisone the entire time. Anywhere from 5-20mg. I have had more than my fair share of steroid injections over this same time period. I have never been told I couldn’t have an injection along with taking my Pred. The only time I can’t have an injection is before a surgery or an infusion.
I sure hope you get some pain relief so you can enjoy your summer!!!

I sure wish you could get some relief. In the medical world, it seems as if the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.
You finally need to catch a break!!!

Oh damn! I am just so very sorry you are having all this pain and all these problems Marly. It just is not right! I'm just catching up with blogs and your Sarah is coming along beautifully.

Hi Marly, I’m sorry your appointment didn’t go well. I hope the new meds can give you some relief. When it comes to health care, our system leaves lots to be desired! Everything takes so long for appointments, diagnosis, etc., etc. Take care and try to get outside when you can. Cherie in WI

Holy mackerel Marly: I hope this all gets cleared up soon and you they have a cancelation.
Thank-you for the links on Etsy.

Wish I could give your PCP the benefit of the doubt, but obviously,
she could have saved you prolonged anguish. Perhaps the meds recommended may help ease the pain somewhat....hope so. May you
find distraction in the beautiful Sarah; enough to "order your days
in peace" and to enjoy another wonderful accomplishment.

Meloxicam should give you some relief I would think... I did notice some marginal relief while I was on it, but could not stay on it long-term and, yes, I have heard that the "protocol" is that you need to wait 3 months before a cortisone injection after another steroid regimen. Bummer. The state of our health care system is as scary as the rest of the things going on in our country. I have been waiting for over 9 months to get in to see an endodontist - my appt is not until August and then it is just an assessment visit, not treatment, despite the fact that I have had every kind of imaging and xray done already. Sounds like you are in the same predicament as the MRI is just the diagnostic part. Hopefully the treatment will not be equally delated. In the meantime, have fun plotting your return to the sewing machine. ~Robin~

Maybe the difference is what medical issues a person has and what medications they are on? I have no idea, just guessing on a possibility.
So sorry about yet another appointment resulting in nothing done again.
Health care is becoming scary, so fractured into specialties with poor communications with between them, long delays, tired overworked staff leaving, etc.

I do like that sewing tool holder.

Marly, meloxicam is pretty good. Watch your stomach with the steroids and anti-inflammatory meds. Seems like tendinitis and bursitis takes a while to heal. Hang in there. Jen
