Hi everyone. Ever since I did the sampler bag on my persimmon linen, I've been moving it. This is certainly not unusual, but this particular piece was not sitting well with me. I hate it. There. I said it. An offering would probably not garner many entries, so I figured, what the hell. Dye it. I've never dipped a completed piece! What would happen? The floss obviously would accept the dye very well and end up the same color, but I didn't like it anyway so I dipped. Because of the orange/red in the fabric, I used green with a touch of black. This color showed very nicely on the open blister in the palm of my hand, plus all the loose skin and blisters on my right hand from a bad burn. No, it wasn't fire, it was boiling water. So my cuticles, wrinkles, blisters, and peeling skin are a very dark green, but it was well worth it.
I'm surprised and happy with the result.
As for Lucy, I'm still making so many errors it's becoming ridiculous. You can see in the photo that both lines start with "that mercy" so naturally, I reversed them and had to remove and start over. Along with the front windows and door on the house. But I'm continuing and will finish the lettering tonight. Tomorrow I hope to get the second house outlined. My sister is having cataract surgery Thursday and I can fill in the houses and roofs while I'm there. You have to appear 2 hours before surgery, then wait another hour because they are never on schedule, then another hour before going home so I should get quite a bit completed. Their cafeteria and coffee shop has decided to only have "healthy" items so I could have decaf black coffee with lettuce on the side, not my usual cappuccino. Bad news - there is a pharmacy across the street that has Bliss chocolate on sale and I have a coupon. I may buy a bag and take it into the eating area and see if they arrest me. This won't be pretty.
Another thing I've been working on is this....
I have a few photos of cats. First off is Junior (real name is Nitwit) taking a snooze on my swing. He just loves getting up on the rocker or the swing and rolling to make it move. Odd for a cat, but that's why we call him Nitwit.
My brother kept 5 from the stray litters of prior years and it's starting again. He can't afford to keep having all these strays neutered, nor can he keep them all. His neighbors are not animal lovers at any level and don't help, nor do they want any more cats around their yards.
This little girl appeared and she is less than a year old, skin and bones, and probably pregnant. Lovable, very affectionate, and sociable.
One of the strays he kept is very odd looking. When she's in the driveway, cars slow down and look, not knowing for sure what she is.

A note for Tina - I can't reply to your question about the Simply Samplers design since you have a no-reply setting, but doing a search on Google would be the best way to locate Hannah Gibson.
That's all I have to report! Hope everyone is doing well - stay safe and enjoy your week.
Thank you very much for sticking with me and Lucy. The end is coming!

Hi Marly, LOVE your dyed sampler bag -- gorgeous. And Lucy is looking great! Wish I lived near you or your brother -- I'd take that newest kitty in a heartbeat! Vera
Oh wow! The dye job looks great!! And Lucy is gorgeous!!! She is so worth all the frogging and mistakes. Wonderful! Oh dear on the cat situation. Pretty cats, but not good that they keep having more kittens.
That dye job was just the trick! I agree with the philosophy - if you don't like it now, what could it hurt? Lucy is just a handfull, isn't she? I hope when you're all finished (whew) that you won't snub her every time you see her! As for the kitties, poor babies. Aren't those short-legged, long-haired guys called Maine Coon breed?
Hi Marly, love the new look of your sampler bag. Thank you for sharing...I have a sampler that is in my WIP basket because as much as I like the design the colors are too bright for me. I just might get that one finished and then try to dye it...hmmmm! You know I'm a big fan of "Lucy" so I'll send good thoughts to you! Almost finished! Best wishes to your sister on her surgery.
Your bag turned out beautifully ;)
Hi Marly, if you cut off the most badly damaged leaves of the hostas now, I am sure new ones will grow rather quickly.
Marly,
I, too, love the dyed bag! So glad you took "the plunge." Ignore your poor stained hand(s), they'll get over it!
Re: your Sister's surgery.... I, also have had one cataract done, and the next on will be done next week. I tried to get Hubmiester to "leave for a couple of hours," but there's no place to go. This stupid specialty surgery center is located out in the middle of nowhere! I like your chocolate idea, though, and will perhaps tempt him with the SI swimsuit issue, and a truffle or 2~

Great stitching Marly and I love the kitty pics. Good luck to your sister.

Marly, I like how the dyed piece turned out. I think I forgot to tell you one important item about dying with walnuts - put them in a leg of an old pair of pantyhose and tie it shut. That will keep all the floaty's out of the dye bath.
I really hope that you and Lucy can remain friends!
Wishing your sister good luck with her surgery and that you are there waiting for her when she is done and not in jail for eating chocolate in the waiting room! Maybe you should keep a piece of lettuce out as a decoy.

They dye job turned out amazing! I would have been too much of a chicken to do that...but it was certainly a success!
I love the cat pics too!
I agree with the other comments, the dyed piece turned out great!!!I can't wait to see your paint project. Enjoy stitching while you wait for your sister. Since I'm married to the orthopedic wonder, I have spent many hours stitching and waiting. I'll send her good thoughts too!
Marly ~
Love your dye job. It did the trick.
Good luck to your sister and go easy on the chocolates so you don't get any on your linen :)
Sweet kitty pics!
You build furniture??? You've alluded to it in prior posts, but I am Impressed with a capital I.
Hugs :)

Hi Marly!! What a difference in the sampler bag!! Looks great! I hope your sister's surgery goes well. The waiting is just unbearable during a surgery....I say ,wave those chocolates in front of everyone there....it may make for an interesting and entertaining few hours!! Love the kitties...Stryker was "snip snipped " extremely young and doesn't even know he's a boy!! He squats to pee!! --Jan
Hey Marly,
The dyed piece looks great. It definitely toned down the color.
I am glad that you have Lucy to keep you company while you are waiting on your sister. If there is a chocolate incident, you can call me, I will come bail you out :)
Is there a local free or low fee spay or neuter clinic? I know that there is one here. The new girl is so sweet.
Love the dye job! What a difference it made. I'm sorry that Lucy is giving you such fits. You are better than me though because I just set a piece aside when it begins to try my patience.
Both bags look fabulous Marly!! Sorry to hear about the burns, hopefully they heal quickly!! I started mine because the dark linen has to be seen under a magnifier!! Sorry to hear about Lucy, she does look lovely and hope you will concentrate better on stitching her in future!! LOL.
Your hostas look in a sorry state, shame.
OK, once I got through wincing and grimacing at the thoughts of your poor hands, blisters, and peeling skin, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing your revamped sampler... It really is so much more "you," Marly!!
Enjoy your stitching time tomorrow--sure hope all goes well with your sister's surgery...
I really like the new look of your sampler bag. But oh my goodness - your poor hands! I think at this point with Lucy, I would just become very determined that I was going to win. :) Will be thinking of your sister on Thursday.
Hi, Marly, love how your dyed sampler bag turned out.
I have dunked completed samplers that I didn't like into a pot of walnut dye, and have never been sorry. I agree that the new little girl is probably pregnant. We are going through the same thing right now, a wild black cat showed up, we weren't able to catch her (thought she was a boy). HA!!! Kittens appeared ... but we will neuter them all and her too... Too bad we couldn't neuter her BEFORE the kitties ...

I love how the dye job made your sampler bag look! I also admire you for forging ahead with Lucy. Reading of your plight with her reminds me of when I was stitching on Frosty at the start of the year, only multiplied by about 100! You are amazing in your sticktoitiveness : ) What a GORGEOUS cabinet you are building! I need one of those really bad! All from a picture out of your head no doubt. Again, you are a marvel! I hope all is well with your sister.
ahhhh...I am soooo loving your Miss Lucy - errors or no. It is quickly becoming a fave....yet I don't think I have it in me to do something that ambitious anymore. Sigh..... The dye job was a definite improvement....wish I could say the same about my last dye job (on my hair I'm talking....) While your sis is getting her eye fixed, I'll be seeing about my own new dye job.....And, thanks - thanks, a lot....Even though I know I'm much too young for cataracts, I've been told I have one and need surgery - after your description of the timeline, I'm thinking not any time soon.....Loving that long-haired puty kat......Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
