Pumroy! Hello all. I chose the underdog! Actually, I pulled threads and chose linen for both and may work on them at the same time. Something is drawing me to her but I've already had to remove all the stitching in the top border. Did she run into Lucy up there? Although the wonderful chart has the stitch count, I couldn't find the total height and width numbers and I counted wrong! Starting in the middle, I worked my way right and it was fine. Left, not so much. There was a fabric margin but not enough for comfort. Will I be adding my own stitch count for borders in future charts? You betcha. Why didn't I think of this before, especially since the reproductions almost never have matched borders. Here is the fabric - 32 count Lt. Mocha Belfast (doesn't look it but it had the original shop tag), and floss - which are much brighter than I've ever worked with. I love the samplers rich in colors on light ground but they're not my usual stitch.
I think this is going to be an interesting piece to work on and I like the fact that although it is close to 30" long, it is narrow so rows are quickly completed. If you want to see more of the piece and photos of the original, visit her blog here and scroll down to almost the bottom.
Another reason I chose her first is after reading Eliza Jane again, I realized the four sided border is Queen stitch. Because I've never been able to do that stitch properly in addition to it being my least favorite,
I'll have to work out a substitute but Pumroy is ready to go!
So there will be only one queen around here and unfortunately, it's not me. It used to be, but now it's Missy - see her under the flowers with her royal attitude?
And I thought you would like to see the last of the BOAF boys. Major changes. First off, he is charted for a gold metallic coat, which I changed to DMC 783. Stockings and cap were to be a bright yellow and orange, I used the red 304 and green 989. I've been seeing quite a few of these on Ebay and this gold one went for $8.50. Not bad considering some of the prices recently. So my set is complete and I can start looking through the Prairie Schoolers for a few others. That's it for me. It's going to be very hot and humid here for a few days, and my heart goes out to the western states with the devastating fires, and Florida's flooding. Those fires are so upsetting to us animal and nature lovers, and having to quickly evacuate and lose everything to a fire is horrific. I can't imagine how the firefighters can deal with the temperatures plus the additional heat from the fires. Have a safe weekend and I'll talk to you soon. Thank you so much for visiting!

Hello Marly, wonderful stitchery, love it. Wow, the queen looks pretty relaxed under there, tee hee. Blessings Francine.
I've never done a Queen stitch before, but it looks rather complicated. Anything more than a blanket stitch and I'm not wanting to do it! I'm really liking the color changes you made to your latest Santa. I've not found it easy to work with metallic threads. ~Ann
Nice! Love the colors all laid out. Love Gold Santa too! I did tons of queen stitches in one piece so I'm good on those. lol! Still not my favorite stitch. Not looking forward to the heat -- but the good news is it won't last. I hope.
Hi Marly, I also have done a few samplers with lots and lots of Queen Stitch. After awhile you become such an expert at doing them lol where you can do them in your sleep. Some of the Rhode Island Samplers have lots of them. Love the colours all laid out, they look lovely together. Love your new Santas btw - Sandra.
Hi Marly...I've been reading your blog fairly recently and in a previous post you had the Red Santa mounted on a basket. Can you tell me how you attached it? I love all these BOAF Santas...how many are there total as I have 2 of them...thanks.

Marly, sorry about the problem with the counting....but it will turn out beautiful on mocha. I love that color!! Your little guy is so much nicer without the metallics. I really hate how they are used so much. As always you are an inspiration.
Hugs, Barbara
I do love the colors for Eliza. And boy, I'm with you on the queen stitch. I just can't get that one to look good!! Santa's colors look great! I love that boat he is holding.
Hi Marly-I have no idea what a queen stitch is--but I just love seeing your work!Your little Santa is great --his coat is such a nice rich color--I'm not especially fond of metallics. Kitty found a nice place to rest under the sweet potato vine. Mine doesn't have quite as large leaves but is trailing nicely now.Stay cool and keep stitching!--Jan
looks like a great new start. I can't wait to see what you do with the border motifs.
Stay cool :)
Oooooo! I love Eliza Jane but I doubt I will ever stitch here with that big honkin' house in the middle. I love stitched houses but stitching them myself is like ... well, I can't even think of anything to compare to it. It would maybe be like stitching Frosty over & over again. Santa looks great & Missy is adorable : ) I'm glad Sophie isn't curled up by the computer right now ... seeing Missy in such a regal pose may have given her ideas.
Aww...I love the photo of your kitty trying to keep cool on these hot, humid days. It's awful, but I sure feel lucky to live in western PA when you hear about all the devastation going on elsewhere, don't you?
Love your color on gold Santa--will have to remember that when I stitch mine.
Enjoy your weekend, Marly!
I sure hope Eliza won't be as much trouble as Lucy was. :) There are some pretty colors in her. I really like the substitutions you made on
Gold Santa! I don't care for the metallics. Missy seems pretty content under your pretty flowers. :)
Great start on the new project.
I think your Santa looks much better than the original!
Love your gold Santa - the colors are SOOO much better than the original! I really admire stitchers who can change out colors. There is something in my psyche that forbids it....don't know why, but it's not an endearing trait. Your wheelbarrow is GORGEOUS.....and is the little fur thing under it! Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin (Queen stitch??? Hmmmm....ya know, I don't think I've ever done one....)
