Before the old one croaks...

no, not me.  The other old computer that is hanging on by a thread.  Haven't worked on replacement yet because I have too many things that require decisions and I can only do one at a time.  The biggest?  The vehicle.  I need your opinion, yes or no, would you drive this car?  It glows in the dark.  It looks like an 18K gold bar dipped in orange juice.  I like it some days, others not so much.  Since I can't return it, my mood at the moment will make a decision that I may regret.  Not one salesman at five dealers had anything nice to say about the color other than "unique".  What say you?

Easy to find and high visibility on the road so other drivers will see. It seems like a plus for safety. C

Too unique for me.

You'll have no trouble finding it in a parking lot. Should stand out real good.

NOPE unless they knock another $1000 off.

It is kind of a fall color...😄

Why not? I had a little Datsun one time that was state road yellow and it was one
of my favorite cars. My car came in that color but I just went with white. BLAH!

I would pick another color. I think you'll grow tired of it in a shrt period of time.

I like unique... and I don't think the color is bad at all!!

I am definitely the Corvette gal, but they have one in a similar color and I love it. I think it is rather cute.

sorry, not in this lifetime, I bought an orange coat with faux leopard trim a couple years ago, still in shock. gave it away, never seen it worn. I suspect it is laying at the end of a local airport runway as a stop signal!

Can't help but think it looks a bit like a sweet potato?! Not that that's bad, but maybe not the first choice in a car color.....

Barb said...

If not 100% sure, I would not do it. Personally I like the fact that it would be so easy to find. Plus, I do like the color!

I would say no! And Marly if you are second guessing yourself, you might want to pass.

I would if they take 30% off, I'm sure they won't sale it unless someone really loves it. I have seen worse. Good Luck, you seem to make the right choices most of the time on your blog!

Marly, my addendum to last response. Honda just came out with new smaller version of CR-V. HR-V? Good write up in Consumer Reports. :)

marly dear ~ yes, it looks like a sweet potato, but since you make the best sp casserole, maybe it's meant to be, for you ~ not me:) xo

Not big on the color...but I'm more of a black and dark grey kind of gal. And I NEVER find my car in the lot!! Go with whatever floats your boat, Marly!

Unique. Yeah. Would I drive it, probably not. I am pretty unique and there is just so much room for uniqueness in my life.

Cynthia M. said...

I like the color and, yes, everyone will see you coming which is a good thing. I had a deep purple car (almost black) and had a head-on crash in broad daylight with a woman making a left turn who said she didn't see me. My son's car (black) was totaled by a woman who turned into him, said she didn't see him. My girlfriend's black truck was hit and she was injured by a girl who didn't see her. My next car will be the brightest, gaudiest color I can find.

GiGi said...

Umm, probably not a good color.

Unknown said...

Well, my opinion is if you don't know for sure then it's probably not for you. If I really like something I know right away. Good Luck!!

It's different - I kind of like it, even though I want a grayish blue for my next van. (Not that Dodge currently has that color.....)

Sure I would! You'll be seen when it is raininig dogs, snows or when it's foggy. And when the car is immobilized on the road. Such a color is the best security and life assurance.

Too unique for my tastes but if you are looking for a colour that stands out from the rest this fits the bill, however if you are not sure about it don't go for it. It's a big expense to be unsure about x

Like others said, it would be easy to find in parking lots, but sometimes people tire of unique colors.

Marly, I have to admit, I am a "feel" good type person. When I buy a house, I won't even look at it if I don't feel good driving in the neighborhood and driving up to the place. Same for buying furniture, etc. That being said, I'm a warm color type personality - nothing bright. Some may say boring -but that goes with my personality and makes me feel good. This one wouldn't make me feel good. (my current car is white, previous black and before that tan - see......BORING!) I bet you're sorry you asked-good luck-you deserve something wonderful that you love.

How many people are driving a GOLDEN car???
My Hyunda is a champagne color and I can find it very easely in a carparc.
But if you are not sure--don't do it!

Good luck!!

You already know I am with you on the Escapes. My first choice is parked next to the "little pumpkin". BLACK. Well, my first choice is always PINK. Can't seem to find those around. And that is NOT Brian's first choice. Keep thinking on it. I think it is a good follow up color to your bright yellow.

Carol said...

Would I buy that car? No, but then again, I've always wanted to be the "fade into the background" type of person who doesn't like attention. My cars are usually gray/pale blue, that sort of thing. I do think this color would be safer on the highways, Marly--what is your gut telling you? I'm a big believer in first instincts :)

Unknown said...

No way. I would tire of that in 2 minutes. I like red. You can see it but yet not gaudy.

Carole Z. said...

Would not be my color choice.

kelley said...

I would definitely drive it...though I would prefer mine in one of those wild bright greens that I see around now...my car is white, bleh...

Back in the late 70's early 80's I had a YELLOW Monza 2+2 Hatchback and I LOVED it. The color on this one is kinda indescribable, although you did a good job of it!!! I'm 4 years older than you and as I've gotten to "know" you through your blog,I just really feel that if you bought this one you'd end up not happy with the choice. Just my 2 cents and I'll give ya change!!!

Angie said...

Marly, the color is unique! Something I personally would tire off rather quickly and not consider, unless the car was given to me for free. I like Silver. There was only one time I swooned over a color.....Parisian Night Pearl. Good luck!

Mary said...

I would say yes!!! we need to get out of this drab world. But if you have to ask for others opinion I would say deep down YOU might not want it. I have a white car now, so does everyone else it seems. I cannot tell you how many times i have headed for wrong car, a bit embarrassing. So my vote is yes.

Paula said...

I don't mind it, but not sure I would get use to it. Ask them to drive it over night and see how it looks in the driveway. I have always taken a car home overnight before buying....the last one was a green subaru....loved it on the lot...thought it was the one...sitting in the driveway it look hideous! I bought the white one :) Best to see it off the lot.

Not crazy about the color. Nancy P.

Cheryl WNC said...

Hey, Marly. Looking at the picture - how do you feel about the other cars around it? Personally looking at them all, I would choose the gold one. Everybody has a black or white and heaven forbid a silver car ( I do and hate it.). I'd choose this one. Does it come in another bright color or maybe the same color as your current car that you do like? Good luck.

Laura said...

I have always been the one to do the unexpected! So I would go for it!

Fran said...

It certainly is unique. I would drive it but I think you should go with your gut. It is something you will have for a while.

Donna Munson said...

I may look at vehicles differently than most women...mine are strictly a tool that I use to haul around as much inventory to shows as I can get....who gives a flip about the color. I want storage space and RELIABILITY!! The car is not an extension of myself or any part of my self esteem...it is a tool to be used until the tires fall off....LOL...so I would think that color should be just fine...Donna

It seems as though your first instinct is to reject the color. I'd say follow your instinct. :)

I like the color but would get tired of it too fast. Good conversation piece though. Like someone else said, go with your first instinct.

HAAA 50 comments - yes no yes no yes no. That doesn't seem like any help at all!! My 2 cents is - what a fun color - you wont lose it in a parking lot!! Nobody should ever hit it. If you drive it around with your one lens sunglasses - what a hoot!! Don't flip anyone off because they will never forget that car HAHA!! Good luck making a decision!

It would not be my choice of color. I prefer boring white for 55 years now. But then your the one who has to live with it. Sooo, when in doubt...Don't.

2001 I bought a bright yellow ford escape ...Without seeing the color made up so to speak...
By the Gods I loved that color. I could find it in the parking lot in southern Cal(and that's saying a lot!)...I could spot it circling around when I ran into the store and hubby waited out for me. If I ever wound up in a snow bank (central Oregon now) I knew someone could find me.
People could find my house by the yellow escape in the drive way... When some years later I needed a newer car (all wheel drive for central Oregon) I went back to Ford for a new escape and when thy told me I could not get the model I wanted in that lovely Yellow I walked out of the deal.

Marley,

I love reading your blog. You have a great sense of humor. My sister purchased this same car in a pretty green called Gingerale. I tend to choose most of my paint colors...car,interior and exterior house paints by the name. Currently my car is plain vanilla white but the color name is Pearle. So Pearl is her name. Does anything about the name of the color speak to you? Good luck choosing.

C M Designs said...

I think it's a sweet little car, Marly. One that you will be able to find anywhere.
I've seen several cars that color on the road lately. AND it's a Ford. Still miss my van.
Go get it and "happy trails to you" !

I say go for it! I would! Why? It's one of a kind. I like to be different. I don't like to follow the norm.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Look at threads. Find one that is close. Would you stitch with it? Is it a yes or a no color? I find threads and floss give me answers to these type of things!!!! There's a "unique" approach for ya!!!

I would think about it this way; would this be my color choice if I had the option to chose any color I wanted? If not, then I would not buy it. For me, it is not my idea of a color I would want in anything; it just is not me. A person typically has a car for several years; I know this color would never make me feel good about the car that I bought. But at the end of the day, you are the one who has to be happy with it. (The fact that you are asking others tells me that you really wouldn't be happy with it in your heart.) Hope this helps.

Unknown said...

I have that color!!!! It's also a Escape, love it!!! None of the salesmen liked it either-too bad!!!!!!

Amanda said...

It really comes down to you. You won't be seeing it that much - you'll be inside the thing. (Sort of Odgen Nash here - "My face I don't mind it/Because I am behind it/It's the people out front that I jar.") Does the color make you happy? Does it make you smile? Do you feel kind of daring when you go down the road in it? If so, go for it. If not, get the Subaru you mentioned a while back. They're supposed to be super-reliable.

Mary A said...

You'll be able to find it in a jammed parking lot. Made the mistake of buying a silver car that every other person owned one too! I lost some much time locating that darn thing.

Ele said...

I like it. Easy to find in a parking lot, which for me is a plus! and they say that bright colors increase safety. So I would probably go for it. Besides, I like unique!

Kathy Barrick said...

I love it!! You go girl!!!

Unknown said...

Yes......I love it. I've wanted that colour for a few years

Margaret said...

You crack me up. What's wrong with the color? I say go for it. I love "unique" colors. Hate how all the cars on the road are the same boring colors.

Unknown said...

Well...it'd be easy to find in the mall parking lot. I'd drive IF I had absolutely no other options. I'd also always wear sunglasses so people wouldn't recognize me & to make the color less painful...er, unique.

Krissy B. said...

Love it in the fall but not so much in the spring. It's a nice color. Fords always have the best colors. I picked mine as to how it would look in my driveway by the house etc... sick I know but I don't want it to clash in any way at home. Get out those chocolates and Good Luck! Krissy B.

Jeannine520 said...

No I wouldn't but keep in mind I wouldn't go for any obvious "color" in a car. I'm strictly a grey or charcoal car kind of gal. If I want to be very colorful I go for navy blue.

Colleen said...

I drove a Tangerine Mist Honda Element, and loved it. The colour made me smile every time I saw it.mthe only reason I don't still have it is that it didn't have head curtain airbags, which I deem a must, since I drive in an area with a lot od
F steep hills and ravines. Went from that to a blue Subaru Flrester - loved the colour, but it was a lemon. From that to a beige 😞 VW Tiguan. Best SUV ever, but not wild about the colour. The car colours are so drab nowadays. Asphalt grey, silver, black (which by the way are the most unsafe colours in terms of visibility)' and white, which is a bit better, but virtually invisible almost half the year. It's very nerve wracking edging into traffic in a white car from behind a snowdrift or during a storm.
If you like the colour, and it's the right car at the right price (maybe you can dicker because of the colour), go for it ! If the colour makes you smile, double go for it! I'd buy another Tangerine Mist in a second, but they stopped making them.
