Martha Hards, a small marking sampler from Needlework Press was chosen from a pile of twenty. I really want to do Ann Spence and Mary Elliott, both LARGE, and I am afraid the stitching desire may be gone before I ever get to them. Maybe after this small project I will attempt one of them.
For Martha, I chose copper penny hand dyed, greenish bluish bronzy linen. It's a monochrome sampler of blue on natural but I wanted something different.
The only shop I have, a half hour from here, may have wool thread and I thought a rust wool would be a great option on this fabric but I need to start right now so I'm using DMC in 300. The owner of the shop stitched the bag on the cover of SANQ (the one I modeled my sampler sack after) on osnaburg with wool threads. It is fabulous.
Not sure if you can see the difference in my photo, but the right side top border and the F is using one thread and the rest is with two. Not sure which I like best. That's bad because any choice - chart, fabric, thread - paralyzes me and even after those are decided, I find something else to stall the process. Then of course, I wonder if a dark blue would be better ALWAYS questioning my decisions and that drives me nuts.
We missed the snow storm, just south of us. Good thing because if I was any more crabby my shell would burst. Hope those of you experiencing it stay safe.

Love your new sampler and the color of the thread. I am doing a sampler with one thread over two. With 2 threads the letter comes up the linen and with 1 thread it lies on the linen. Hope you do understand what I try to explane.

So far, so good! I love DMC 300. We woke up this morning to find we had been hit hard by the storm. Snow last night, freezing rain all day today into tonight then more snow starting late tonight and into tomorrow! Yikes! You won't catch me going out in it (except for a picture or two)
I can see the difference, love the linen and thread color!

Yay that the storm did not hit us in No. Ohio...But my son in Virginia is going to get it. Hey he likes snow, or so he thinks....he usually doesn't see much of it so what's not to like.

I love your floss color and I personally like the one thread option but either way will be beautiful, in the end. We missed the storm too in SE Michigan, thank God!
I like just the one thread because I think it makes the sampler look older and more original, Marly. I'm so happy we are missing this storm (in a way--but in a way, I hoped I would have a snow day from working all weekend :)
Storm is here right now... it was snowing quite hard, but let up now... I have a headache, so I guess it's gonna turn to rain soon... The floss color is just fine, and it will be a wonderful project. I like two threads myself... but you are the one to decide... No help I know... Hugs!

It is starting to snow here now and they are calling for 24-30" for us but it is the wind that will really do us in.30 to 40mph. What a mess.
Your choice of fabric and using the thread two ways I think gives this an antique look. The shop where I have always brought my `Sampler & Antique Needlework` magazine has sent me a note saying she can no longer get this as they are not printing it any more! :( I have so enjoyed it. At least I have my years of magazines to stitch from. Happy Stitching.
my vote is for the two threads;i just seem to like the heavier=clearer-to-me look. (and the red is gorgeous!!) trust me; you are not the only one who suffers from indecision- i detest too many choices. freaks me out and shuts me down. S&AN was such a fabulous magazine- i really miss it and am not such a fan of them switching my subscription to JCS instead. hardly an equal.
Love your choice of thread on that color linen and I love the fact that you are using the threads two ways, I agree with Clare, I think it definitely gives it an antique look. I am sure the finish will be lovely as all of yours are! Can't wait to see it. Glad the snow missed you, wouldn't want your crabby shell to burst!

I personally like the one thread. But, a compromise would look great - only one thread for the border and two threads for the rest. That way, no big decision.
And, I thought I'd let you know, the Santa's arrived yesterday in excellent condition. That was a nifty box you used for mailing.

I wish the storm were missing us. We weren't supposed to be bad, but looks like we will still get substantial snow and wind. Oh well. As for your two or one thread -- I'm a one thread person, but the two looks good too. No help at all, that's me!
Hi Marly, a friend of mine stitched a lovely sampler on the copper penny linen and it was drop dead gorgeous. Ever since, I've had it in the back of my mind to work a project on it too. It will be great fun to to see what you thin of it! Hope you're staying warm and dry this weekend.
The storm completely missed us in northern Ohio. YEAH!
