I ate cake!

A lot of it.  And as I am typing this, a news report is coming through that police were set up for an assassination and 3 are dead, more are injured.  This will be brief but lots of photos.
This is what I made this morning with many more to come.

For those of you that would like to make the sponge cake, here are the pages from mom's booklet.  Her addition of the chocolate shavings are added at the bottom corner.  The Mahogany is wonderful too, never tried the Maple Pecan on the other page.  These cakes are not the moist soft box or bakery cakes.  You can click on the photo and then click again to enlarge, print if you'd like.

I have more photos but sadness has turned to anger and I am done here.

Well that was silly

Why did I order 18th Century Clove when I knew it would be close to what I dyed a few years ago?  And the Broom Stick Brown isn't really to my liking. greenish with slight brown variation.  Not sure if I will sell or dye.
The bottom linen is mine.  Same color but different count.
I have been online looking for a particular top Carole wants for her reunion, I have been to all the stores, and back again with the returns.  Right now, I have five items waiting for her approval that she will see today when they come for the birthday dinner.  Then I will have to make the returns once again.  I think one of this group will be the chosen, and I will bling it a little more with tiny rhinestones.

My cake is coming out of the oven now.  Our traditional chip chiffon.  I wanted the Mahogany chiffon and started making this one before I realized the flour and sugar amounts were different.  Too late.  Maybe next time.

I did get my larger boxes for Eliza Pomeroy and would like to offer a few soon.  Will let you know.

Have a great weekend.  Eat cake.
A luscious white sponge cake with unsweetened shaved chocolate throughout.  Not real sweet, unique flavor from the baking chocolate, a different texture than traditional cake, our family tradition.  I try very hard to not slice off the golden exterior to devour before adding the whipped cream icing.  No one will see that it's missing!  Once I'm gone, it will never be made again.

Thanks for visiting.

Something you already know

Hello people.  Just a quick note now, because I will forget, to tell you about a site that you already know about.  But just in case you don't, and you like the random mottled hand dyed fabrics, I came across a site that offers a large selection including Aida.  You choose a color and everything from 14 Aida to 40 count linen can be had. The order may take four weeks, but I don't know of many sources that offer this look in Aida cloth.  So if you're interested, check her out HERE.

Just a sampling - there are four pages of dozens of various colors.
You knew this didn't you?

Here we go again

This time, I'm not bugging you for opinions, just showing you what I've chosen.

One of the dresses is 310 black, and it shows well enough on this dark linen, but there is no real distinction like the red.  So I started pulling choices and realize now how the floss bags got out of hand and took a half hour to put away.  First thought was a deep gold but that didn't pop with the 370 beneath, just sort of blended in.  Then I tried the Needle Necessities (which have been hanging around for many years) in red and purple.

Eureka.  Boom.  The brain is working.  I found many colors that work well on this fabric, but I didn't want it to be similar to another used elsewhere in the design.  No pinks or blues or mauves.  Purple it is.  I think it would be appropriate but that's just me.  Now to find the right one.

Trying to make it stand proud as the red does, it can't be dusty or muted and I was leaning toward 552.  Then I spotted a color in the DMC samples that may be perfect, 3835, but I don't have it.  I will shortly! Until then, I will work on the red.  I think this will be fabulous.
That's not tent stitch, it's just my way of making frogging easier.  Simple rows and borders are never crossed until I know the stitch count is correct.  This is probably routine for all of you but no one told me!  I had to learn the hard way.

Thanks for visiting!
p.s. I took the compression off and ballooned to hippo foot.  Have an appointment next week and may be a non-compliant patient if it's broken.  Stopped at the store where it happened today and gave the owner a list of my co-pays for X-ray and testing if needed, requested reimbursement, haven't heard a word.

Going to the dark side

Yep.  Still wanting to use the dark linens and I think this little sweetie may be perfect for the change.
Barrick Samplers 1848 Reproduction Sampler.

How do you think this will look reversed on the very dark Charcoal Gray Belfast with lighter thread?

So far, so good!!
