On the fringe

Hello people.  How's everyone?  Remember Mary Beale's wreath that I just finished?  Well I found it yesterday.  It was under a piece of velvet that was used to create two strawberry pinkeeps which were to be included with three sizes of rusty bells and a pack of red jingles along with a few Mary Beale ornament cards and a clove studded pear all nestled in a sampler box for the Christmas giveaway but the box couldn't hold it all so a larger box was needed which caused the contents to be removed on the verge of an impending flash demanding a trip to the bathroom leading to the misplacement of the strawberries and subsequent unsuccessful searches frustrating an older but sometimes very nice lady who decided to instead offer a gift certificate and unfortunately caused another misplacement of a special stitched piece in the melee.  So now she will be finished with a medium green piped edge.  I'm still very uneasy about cutting an opening in the center.  Flashes either embolden me or enrage me, neither of which are good when in the process of a tedious sew.  If I have warning I can walk away, but it's usually a sucker punch.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.
I came across this little pillow I received years ago as a gift.  It used to play Christmas music but the hickey must be broken.  Fringe and braid and cord are not finishes I use but I have to say, I really like this one.  She seamed on the outside and then fringed the linen to include it with three colors of floss on each side, and it's an edge I may have to try.

I'm sure it's not difficult and I can find instructions online.  Looking at her stitches, I can't figure it out.  Too much chocolate I guess.  And King's Hawaiian rolls.  I have no idea what design this came from.
My taller Christmas tree finally has lights today and I love the look. I will do the other tonight for sure. Primitive and sparse unlit trees have their place and I love both looks, which is why I have so many trees. These lights are from years ago and are faceted glass giving a real sparkle to the tree.

This tree is still available through WebeChristmas and called a Bristle feather (fake) with stiff branches.  Yesterday I saw a 3' fake feather at Hobby Lobby for $25 - not sure if their 40% coupon works on trees.  The branches were a little too long for me but I've always snipped and taken "trimming the tree" literally.  I once removed every other row of limbs, shortened the remaining,  and then wrapped the trunk with burlap to create a more primitive look.  The large open areas created space for stitchery, stuffed animals, dolls, toys, fruit baskets, or electric cars.  I didn't want the tree anymore so it didn't matter.  The better quality large trees were donated.
That's it.  I'm off to sew.
Greetings and welcome to new followers!
Thank you all for visiting and enjoy your weekend.
Stay safe and stitch happy.

Well I'm glad you found the Mary Beale piece! Good luck cutting the center. Interesting about that fringe. Looks like a backstitch holding it on? That doesn't make sense though, does it. Love your tree of course. Hobby Lobby -- fake. Hmmm. I need to settle for fake cause real costs too much. I end up just not getting a feather tree year after year cause of the cost. This will be another year like that. Oh well.

That fringe is really interesting on that pillow. I like it because your could make it just the colors you wanted. I would really like to know how that was done.

Glad that you found that Mary Beale piece. You figure that it could have gone far, but if you're like me it's right under your nose and you can't find it. A daily occurance to me (and I didn't eat any Hawaiian rolls - LOL)

I like the edge on that little pillow too. My brain is fried right now...don't remember if I responded to your kind answer about the feather trees. Sigh. If I didn't ,sorry. If I did, chalk it up to a case of fried brain. I'll have to get over to Hobby Lobby.---Jan

The little pillow is so cute! I think it might be from Prairie Schooler's Up on the Housetop. I love it!

Honestly, Miss Marly, you crack me up EVERY time I read your posts! I can just see you all frazzled. LOL So glad you found your Mary Beale piece. The fringe on the pillow looks great! I'm like you, I wouldn't have thought to use it, but it's perfect. Love love your tree! :)

I'm a little reluctant to admit this, Marly Dear...but from the first paragraph of today's post: we could be TWINS! I don't have much time for needlework, and what little there is...is constantly interrupted. Splintered. Fractured. It is not conducive to a healthy creative environment, so I am CONSTANTLY MISPLACING THINGS.
Fortunately, I'm able to giggle at your writings and realize...if it's not one thing...it is definitely another! See? You teach in ways you don't quite realize.

I LOVE the fringe on that finished piece. It's PERFECT!
Do you know what it looks like, to me? I think your lovely friend may have "Larkshead Knotted" a small group of threads onto the edge of the stitched piece, all the way around, and then trimmed them, along with the fringed ground fabric, to finish.
What do you think? Could it be? Is this friend of yours a complete perfectionist? It's lovely. Now I'm really wondering...

Ok....I thought we were kindred souls of sorts....but, Marly - really....I don't think I would have/could have ever misplaced a gem like Mary Beale! Now you're really beginning to worry me! (This is what I have to look forward to? Really? For YEARS I welcomed the onset of hot flashes, as I was ALWAYS freezing...now, I'm in purgatory where one minute I wear three sweatshirts and the next I'm stripping down to my lovely arm bags....Hello....) :o Interesting fringe...haven't a clue how THAT'S done...only it looks like a heck of a lot floss! What a darling pillow. Treasure it, I swear they'd have to pry it out of my fingers if it were mine! :)

I'm glad that you found your Mary Beale piece, Marly! I constantly misplace things I put in 'safe' places, and then wonder if my family is trying to trick me by hiding them, realize they don't know what it is I'm obsessing over at that moment, and then try to retrace my steps. Oy.

That pillow is adorable! Love the tree, too. I wish stores here would have stuff like that. I saw one of the big stores here had a BLACK Christmas tree. Like, a big regular Christmas tree, but instead of green branches, they were black. Ugh.

I think the count comes to 5 now?! This one is a stunner too! I'll have to look into finding a sparse fake one after Christmas to purchase...since that's when the prices really drop!! Love that fringe!
