Something new to me

Greetings!  How is everyone today?  My cousin in CA is on my mind continually, so regardless of aches and pains, numbness and restriction, jowls and fat, I am grateful for the day.  She is now realizing that no progress is being made on her right side paralysis and she will never be able to return to her sweet home, her flowers, and her much loved rescue pup.  Her hopes are fading as is her will and spirit.
I am back to stitching on Mary and decided to complete the body first.  The stem stitch scalloped border will be a new adventure for me and having the center to line up with would probably be a help.   And I'm also delaying the unknown which is what I do best.
Here's what I did with the Rabbit Folk.  I found burlap ribbon in the floral department of Hobby Lobby and then saw it at JoAnn's.  I'm never in that section so maybe this has been around for a while but it's new to me.  It also comes in a much wider width which I plan on using for garland outdoors.
Love this stuff.  How perfect for seasonal items.  Just pin or stitch to the strip and wrap around boxes, baskets, hang vertically down a door, side of a hutch, over a doorway.  Not too much fuss and finishing required of the stitched pieces, plus charms or sprigs, even photos can be mixed in on the strip.  I'm sure it can be stabilized with a fusible if needed. These are just quickly pinned and ....... that's right .......probably won't stay there.

My dad smoked a pipe when I was little (well, younger - I was never really little) and I got to keep the red Prince Albert cans for crayons and pens.  They were flatter, shaped like a flask, but when I saw this rusted old round tin, I had to get it.  It certainly gave my fusspot clean machine brother a head turning when he stopped by.

Enjoy your day and stay safe.
Thank you so much for visiting and welcome to new followers!  I appreciate every one of you that take time from your busy days to see what the menopausal maniac is up to.  I wonder if the nickname Flash will stick with me for life!  That's OK with me.

I really like how that came out and a good idea for decorating a basket. I have an old pipe can that I got from my grandfather, fun to decorate with.

Such a sad, sad realization for your cousin, Marly. I can't even imagine... Our lives can change so quickly and so completely, can't they?

Such a cute idea to use the burlap on the basket--it does tone down the "cuteness" factor for you :)

I hate to tell you that I've been flashing for 16 years (really!!)... So, "Flash" might stick with you for life, but I hope not!

Marly, I am so sorry to hear this about your cousin.... my heart breaks for her.... If you think she would enjoy getting cards as Paula suggested above, I would be happy to send one along....
Love what you did with the burlap! I have seen in it Michael's and Joann's, but never knew what I could do with it. I love the idea of pinning small stitcheries on it and placing it on a basket.... I think I will use that idea! TFS!
I have been flashing, too, for many years, and at 58 still cannot say I have gone through menopause! Help!!!

You are so right..we have no idea how fortunate we are. My 95 year old Mom stayed here a few days while her power was restored after our "Nemo" storm. She moves around quite well with her walker, but I must have gotten up a dozen times to let in a cat, then out a cat , you get the picture. She laughed " is that what you do al l day..I said yes...I looked at her face I know she was thinking lucky you, hopping up with ease meanwhile I am think( my knees hurt).I am sorry for your cousin. we must appreciate the good that we have.

OH that can!!!! When I was quite young I remember making one prank phone call and being so nervous I was almost peeing my pants. 'Do you have Prince Albert in a can? Well you'd better let him out!" Not sure who I had called (best friend right beside me egging/daring me on) but I hung up so fast and ran into the bathroom and locked the door. I just knew the sherrif would come for me. I agree about sending cards to your cousin.....think she would like them? MJ

My heart breaks for your cousin, God bless her!
I really liked what you did with the bunnies. I have passed on many old burlap bags at the junk shops I've been visiting lately because I don't know what I'd use them for. I guess I should start picking them up??

You always come up with the neatest finishing ideas.
The bunnies are adorable and they look perfect on that basket.

I love what you've done with the bunnies. It's an easy way to dress up a basket and the stitching can be swapped out as the seasons change.
