Back to Eliza Low Pumroy

Greetings.  Hope everyone had a great weekend and all the dads in your family had a nice Father's Day.  We sure miss ours.  Several days ago my nephew became a grandfather to a red haired perfect little boy.  My sister is now a great grandmother at 74 and I'm a great-great-aunt at 62.  At the graduation party, we saw our "almost" cousins (my cousin's cousins) and they inherited skin without pores, wrinkles, sags, or bags.  So depressing!  We joked about our ages and I always get ribbed from Mike about owing my life to him.  He is my mom's sister's son, and because he was the cutest baby anyone ever saw, Mom decided on just one more - me.  He's the little devil on the far left and I'm on the far right, back in the days of traditional families without electronics, on a family picnic.

Age has changed my likes, dislikes, philosophy, judgment, patience, TOLERANCE!, but mostly, physicality.  While grocery shopping, I forgot myself and crouched down to see the price on the bottom shelf.  Big mistake.  I can't get up from that position without help.  Thank goodness no one was in that aisle.  I had two choices - 1. grab a shelf to pull myself up risking the entire shelf and its contents falling on me and creating a scene or 2. fall onto my side, roll until I was on my hands and knees, try to straighten my back legs hoisting my butt into the air while grabbing my knees to stabilize and letting out that grunt old people make.  Years ago I lost my balance while hopping on one leg trying to get a shoe on, grabbed for the shelf, and toppled the entire shoe rack in an outlet store.  I chose #2.

On to Eliza progress. I've completed the large alphabets and the fancy dividing bands and am now working on the last few rows before the bottom section.

She's going to be fabulous with a fringed bottom, at 9" wide and about 31" long on 30 count.  I may have to attach another piece of the same linen with a border stitch onto the bottom for fringing.  I really like the longer bottom margin like on this Mary Oldfield - one of my favorite sampler finishes, but there will only be about two inches on Eliza.  We'll see.  With her length the shorter bottom margin may be fine.

Thank you for such a great response to my offering.  In answer to emails, yes I will be selling this chart.  No I'm not published, I just printed my own packs and the chart on 11x17 paper, with an attached photo.  I don't know how to offer a PDF because most printers can't do that size paper.  It will be this week for sure.

I charted the July pear right after number X, and may stitch that to have it ready.  It shouldn't take long at all.  Famous last words!  I like the first draft, and don't think any changes will be made.

Have a good start to a great week, thank you for visiting, stay safe.

I'm chuckling along with you Marla because I have the same issue with getting up from the floor, I need something to hang onto. I've already learned not to get down too low in a store or risk embarrassment! I keep hoping that losing weight and exercising more will restore more flexibility but not sure - I guess new knees would help!

Love your sampler, it's moving along quickly and will be another great finish for you.

Bwhahahahaha! Thank you so much for the laugh this a.m.! I have the EXACT same dilemma when I find myself on the floor and yes, I choose option #2 ALL THE TIME! Love the stitching on Eliza Low Pumroy.

Oh Marly, I'm right there with you crouching or kneeling down. I always look around me hoping there's something I can pull myself up on. I never thought about just falling onto my side. Might have to try that next time ... & there will be a next time ... sigh!

Congratulations on becoming a great great aunt! I love that picture from your younger days. Yikes on the crouching down! I'm getting to that point as well -- getting old is no fun. Love your Eliza -- her colors are fabulous!

Aww...cute pic.
I usually have to hold on to something for a while after getting up like that. I have a tendency to pass out from shutting off the blood flow to my brain! The blood flow problem must also happen while standing up. That would explain a lot of things.
Love all your stitches, of course!

Such a cute picture Marly! Adorable and such lovely memories.
Your story made me laugh, sorry but you write too funny!
Eliza looks fabulous, and your Pear X is lovely too.
Have a good week;))

Good morning Marly, As the years go by, so do the knees and flexibility. Just wait til you're in your 70s like me. I have been in the same situation as you describe. Now I don't bend my knees, I bend from my hips. that's the best I can do.
Thank you for designing another pear. I'm enjoying the ones I've done from your previous patterns..
Your stitching is beautiful.
Have a happy day.

Oh Marly! Did I laugh! I overdid things in the garden yesterday and let me tell ya. I may be 44, but I don't feel it!!!
What a sweet family picture you shared.

What an adorale photo, Marly! Those were the days....
I'm sorry that you got down and had trouble getting up, but your story had me laughing out loud. Like everyone else, I'm feeling it too... I start a yoga class today, thinking it might help with my lack of flexibility but I'm afraid the instructor will say something, like "Geesh, you sure aren't very bendy". No, not anymore.

One reason I usually take a cart whether I think it's needed or not. Remembering those days with family and friend picnics. Glimpses of memories I have a more often related to the food rather than the folk... Your sampler is looking great!

Beautiful stitching Marly. and what a funny story...I'm the same way...can't get up without help which is so annoying. The frustrating part for me is that my husband is 6 years older and has none of those issues...grrrrrr...

Love the old beachy picnic photo Marly! Those certainly were simpler days, weren't they?

GO to cutepdf.com
and download the pdf writer.

I did a double check before writing, and when I click on cute pdf from my printer list, there is an area I can change my paper size.

My oper. sys is VISTA - not the best and not the worst system.

I use the pdf writer all the time and best of it was free.

Marly, I love reading your posts! The image of you rolling about doing wild gymnastics in a shopping aisle gave me a giggle. I actually find myself grunting a bit too (in mid 30;s) when I'm trying to get up. Not sure why we grunt?! Love the samplers you are making!!

Eliza is wonderful!......by the way, you're too young to grunt....that's for us really oldsters, the 75ish group!

OOh, so sorry about the grocery store. I think I would have picked option 2 too.
Great stitching. I love that sweet pic. What a great summer memory.

Hi Marly...I looooved the first part of the post and if you can believe this or not it's up to you BUT I DID EXACTLY WHAT YOU DESCRIBED by #2....
I was in JoAnns looking on a bottom shelf and bent at the knees....THAT DOES NOT WORK FOR ME EITHER....well...not getting up - I had to stop, drop and roll! LOL Fortunately no one was in that isle. They say you should always bend that way....well, NOT IF THE BODY DOESN'T LET YOU!
Thanks for the giggle and the past reminder.

Beautiful Samplers kiddo...your work is so beautifully done and I love that there are so many different techniques in your work....and the colors...just lovely.

What a fun 'kids' picture - oh how I love seeing older photos of family...and you are a 'doll' !

Blessings,
Karen

I know just how your feel, Marly--you should see me trying to position myself to retrieve a book on the bottom shelf at the library... I kind of stick one leg out, support myself against the bookshelf, and squat as much as I dare. I just know I'll end up on the floor one of these days :)

You were the cutest little girl--I just love old family black and white photos.

Sweet, sweet, photo....and that photo in my head of you getting up from the grocery floor? Well, HA! Only one who does the exact same thing can say that ya know..... ;o) Been having a time of it lately...spent almost two hours on our living room floor last Sunday....not a pleasant place to be. I swear the dust dinosaurs were organizing and preparing to attack at any moment.... Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

I know just what you mean I think it might be because I am getting older. My mum suggested I buy one of those grabber things to pick things up.
