Barbara

Barbara Schlater from Threads of Gold.

I added her to the ladder (two rungs left) and also considered a frame since an 8 x 10 standard will work fine.  I really like the ladder and it's a great way to display seasonal pieces without changing wall groupings.  I have a large drying rack somewhere and I think it may be another option for displaying unframed pieces. But.

The frame really makes the sampler stand out, outlining and drawing attention to the design. I'm confused people.  I have preferred fringed or hemmed pieces for an earlier look ~ have I been wrong?  It's like someone turned me upside down! I guess one room can have the framed and another hemmed.
And what's with the bad photos?  Quite a few have a mottled pattern of greens.  Maybe it's time for a new camera.  Good grief.  Another decision.  I'm embarrassed to admit that the kitchen cabinets are stalled.  Again.  Every time I get a little done, I see too much yellow, too much green, and although mid-toned, too dark.  Because my kitchen is open to the family room, the trim will be the same color.  So difficult when one side is dark with a north window and the other end with west sunlight.  Changes everything. I really don't want two paint colors in this small area.  So I will look through charts for the next project and let my mind clear of colors for a day or two.

Be back this evening with the winner.
Thanks for visiting.

Barbara looks good either way, truly. But I find her stunning in the frame.

Hi Marly
I love how you display your samplers...very creative and unique. I rather like that way than framed.
Isn't 'choosing' a difficult thing when we know it's going to be permanent. Can't wait to see the finished product.

I think your ladder display idea is very creative! and how you say it will work for swapping out the seasons is awesome!! I prefer the look of simply-hemmed linen samplers, or if I stitch them on my cupboard cloth, I loike the frayed edges ~ of course I love my hubby's frames too and I like pin keeps…so…who's confused?? LOL

Of course FRAMED is always better....this statement is brought to you be me ( at last count has 34 completed ,unframed pieces in the sewing room). I should just hem them and use as a revolving antimacassar show on my wing chairs....hahaha Maybe I need to get myself a ladder.

Marly! I just love how you display those samplers on the ladder! I love that ladder! I just yelled at my husband "come here quick and look at this". He thought it was great too. He offered to make me one and I'm not sure how we can do that antique-y look! Thanks for showing it!

Framing can add a lot to a finish, Marly, and I love what she's done for Barbara. But, I think your ladder display is so unique and fun--and it is certainly preferable to hiding your larger unframed finishes in drawers like I seem to do :)

I like the samplers on the ladder -- such a cool way to display them. I think the frame looks nice too. Both ways are good to me. With the type of sampler you like to stitch, the hemmed look is fantastic. But framed looks good too. Sorry about the cabinets.....

I like your samplers displayed either way and the frame is spectacular.

Barbara is beautiful, framed or unframed, but I do love your ladder display best. Paint colours are so affected by light, I have a sea green in one of the bedrooms that looks like we've painted each wall a different colour depending upon how the light hits it.
