with disregard to proper sewing and measuring, lack of respect for the stitching, and reckless use of sandpaper. 120 grit. I created a few broken linen threads to mimic worn areas, roughed the fabric, tore some floss, and I'm still not happy. I think the linen is too light for the look I wanted. There was no time to look through fabrics when I left for the Clinic. A complete dip in a darker dye will probably help, and next time I want it to look old, I will use 535 or 844 instead of black.

I'm on edge as I have been for quite a while, waiting for the phone to ring, which it does regularly. I see her number on the screen and wonder what I will hear. Six more weeks! That restlessness and anxiety makes me careless and unfocused, but I would have treated this project the same even without the stress. Menopause did me wrong years ago so I can't blame it on my sister!

even though I designed it {way back when} I agree that it would look 'older' without the black threads...there's always next time :) but with that said, I love your finish! :)

I think that your too close to the finish and therefor to critical of your work. I really like the piece if your fabric seems to light spill a little coffee on it, it will give it a nice brown tone. Hope your phone is nice and quite for the next few weeks while waiting for your sisters next procedure.

I do love your finish Marly - I think it looks great. Well, heck, you at least finish things...not me...I stitch and then the pieces go in a drawer - lol. Continued prayers for your sister and her son...and only good rings on the phone for you.

I love how you created "old" fabric. It truly does look old. Continued prayers for your sister. I sure hope she gets the help she needs in Cleveland. Totally understand being on edge for the phone to ring.

I'm in "awe" of your work, any way you finish it. Your bag looks wonderful to me.
I had an Aunt who painted beautiful water color pictures.. She never thought they were good enough and would throw them in the trash.. To anyone else, they were a work of art. I asked her to paint a picture for me and I cherish it to this day. It is a simple snow scene with a tiny cardinal perched on the stump of a tree.
Having six more weeks of waiting, for what Carole has to go through, is enough to wrack the nerves, mind and body.
Try to enjoy your stitching. Make another apple pie. Blame your frustration on the "freezing rain", snow, winter !

Marly - It is in a good spot, looks more than fine, and as I need to remind myself regularly, it is completed and I did it - something many others would love to do!!! It is so sad how many of us are critica1 with our own work. You are a great stitcher, finisher, and innovator - give yourself a hand!!!!

Wow! You did a great job on the design. Can you do your magic with some bleach on the black and then dye it? You are getting really good at making the work look old.

Well I think it looks good...but I think a dip in the antiquing dye will make it perfect.
Thanks for the tip about not using a black floss...now that I think of it black really does "jar" something you want to look vintage!
