Hiya. How's everyone? We're getting a little more snow, very cold temps, and anxiety attacks. Two more weeks.
I saw Lori's new free chart (here) and started on it right away. Browsed my charts and just couldn't get interested in a sampler. What? It's true. Is a slump approaching? So when I saw her offer, I thought it would be a good idea to pick up the needle.
I noticed that my stitches are more even than ever before. Why? Possibly because of the direction? I am following my usual sewing method of doing half a cross first, but this time I am going vertical with the first half and completing the second half horizontally. I know I know. Not the way you are supposed to stitch.
But unless it's my imagination (and I have a vivid one because I called myself a girl in the prior post), my stitches look better. The linen seems more stable too. See the difference between the stitches within the letters and the very bottom row? Maybe it isn't noticeable in the photo but trust me, it's not as neat.
Here's a look at the back.
It's hard to see with this floss color but that looks like a good base for wimpy linen doesn't it? Am I doing something that all of you know about and I've been in the dark once again? Or am I wrong in thinking this incorrect method of crossing could result in better stitches?
For those of you with brats cats - ours have been going nuts with ... nuts. Is it because the Brazil nut looks like a mouse? They were batting one around found under a hutch so I picked more from the mixed nut bin at the market. Cheap fun since they destroyed every toy I bought at the pet store. So far, Bud is OK, and Yellow Man is still here every night. I'm ready for bed, and I can hear the nuts rolling, smacking the furniture, followed by a wall/cat collision thud.
Have a good Thursday!
Thanks for visiting.

Too funny about the nuts. You're a good mama to those cats. Mouse.
That's how I do my rows of stitches! So the back is horizontal stitches for the first pass then vertical stitches for the top leg.
When I do a second row I make sure the horizontal stitches are in the blank spaces from the row above.
My backs look like square grids.
Make sense?
I wouldn't know whether I'm stitching the "proper" way unless you were here to watch me.. I get it done and it looks pretty good to me. Ha ha. I'm stitching PS Santas.
I hope Missy is okay too. Love your story about the nuts ! Whatever works is the answer for kitties..
Still sending prayers ! You can't help but be anxious..

i don't know if it's right, wrong or in-between. i just stitch because i love to….and yours looks fine to me!
Iggy {our boy-cat} likes to rattle the toilet handle all night long. we think he was a 3rd-shift plumber in a past life.

As to the stitching - the front and back both look fine, so where's the problem? The Brazil nuts/cat toys are a hoot. I had an old cat whose favorite toy in the world was the ring off the milk jugs. Even catnip mice could not complete. It was comical!
Oy! I am on percocet currently for the increased pain. I cannot figure out what you are talking about with the stitching. o_0
Thanks for the link on the new freebie. I had not seen that one yet.
Nuts. Funny!
Have to remember that. brazil nuts. Who knew? I do see what you mean about looking neater and the back certainly looks great. No clue though on whether it's a thing or not.
Hang in there. 2 weeks. It'll be over. It'll go great. Lots of prayers.
I stitch in vertical not in horizontal, half cross and then I close returning. This is the method of the best school in Italy

I have NO idea what is the correct way to lay stitches... I just do them one way, over and over... :/ New project is looking good. Cat stories are a hoot!
your stitches are great...my stitches were always a mess when I cross stitched but I didn't care! now my eyes can only handle non counted stitches...as for the brazil nut...must find some for my kits...love when they make a ruckus at night chasing things around, running over me...
Hmmm... interesting, Marly! I don't think there is a right or wrong way to stitch as long as your stitches end up nice and even :) I almost started that new chart yesterday, too, but decided I needed to do a bit of finishing instead. Haven't stitched anything for Valentine's Day this year, which is unusual...
I can just picture the cats having fun with the nuts--our old cat was the same way with anything hard and small that skittered across the hardwood floors.
The freebie from Lori is a great one, and your version looks wonderful. That's a hoot about the Brazil nuts...I bet our cat, Tyg, would love them too...that is after he is done trying to get into the butter - lol.
I just stitch...don't want to over think it or it becomes no fun. Your pieces always look great, so keep doing what you're doing.

I am soooo dense...I can see the difference in the finished stitching BUT I can't figure out what you mean by the vertical and horizontal?????? Can you show the process in a series of steps? I KNOW I'm a pest!!!!
Still praying...

I get so mad at some stitches sometimes, it seems to work out in the end.
Love the nuts and cat story.
I am still smiling.

I think you are right that the stitches look neater, but I don't quite understand how you're doing the stitches. I'll have to play around with it. I say "who cares" as far as what is correct stitching. As long as you're enjoying it and it looks good, stitch any way you want. If it's a piece being judged then I supposed it would need to be stitched in the "right way".
So cool that you found something the kitties love to play with!
Love your cat story . Mine sleep all day then on the night shift they play
