Hey. How you doing? My periodontist is the greatest. Quick quick quick. No pain. But now, I can barely open my jaw from the shots. It's only happened twice in my life, but the needle actually hit the nerve and it feels like a crazy bone was hit and then electrocuted. That takes a while to heal. Good thing Doves are rather flat and I don't have to open wide.
First off, the pen.
Staples carries the Pilot brand Frixion pens in singles and multiples. I got the 3 pack of black for $5.35 with this week's 15% off coupon. I am a big couponer. Drives my husband nuts. It comes in various colors and I learned a little more about them. The tip you see on the end is an eraser. The ink is removed easily with it, or with heat. If you remove it with heat from a hair dryer or iron, you can have it reappear if you put it in a cold spot, like the freezer. It comes with the cap like I have, or a retractable version. I'll be buying more in other colors too.
For KathiQuilts - you asked me about the fabric but you're no-reply. It's from JoAnn's, Legacy Studio CP42508 Winter Birds Berry Vine Words, also on Etsy.
Since Google is not transferring all comments to email, I will double check and make sure everyone is included in the giveaway through both sources. And if I was to reply and haven't, please email me since I may not have received it. If you're no-reply, I can't!
Nitzy was let out for a half hour last evening and came back covered in mud and some blood. From what I could see, there are four bites on the head, one paw is bloodied, his back was bit, and I'm sure there are more. He tore up my right wrist when I tried to clean him and drop a little peroxide on the wounds. He will allow me to pet him only if he's in the right mood, but not pick him up.
The little coon I'd mentioned a while back with the sad eyes and sweet face, has made it through the winter. Very bad photo but it was dark outside. She appeared at the back door last night for the first time. We were so glad! We can hand feed her and she is really a sweet gentle soul. Sunken eyes and hair loss, skinny and frail, eating a Fig Newton while I get food for her. She dunks everything in the water dish and makes a mess. We called her Bud for years until she one day brought the "kids" out to eat so we call her Budette now. She's much smaller than the meaner aggressive males we have.
Lots of appointments this week and next, all is going well.
Spot The Horse is the next project and I will choose a linen tonight. Did you see Carriage House Samplings' new website (here)? She has everything including Spot and others that are new to me. As for Fraktur Friends, I totally screwed up on size. Not wanting to use the silk gauze, I thought I would do it on a high count linen, but that's over two, not one like the gauze. So if I want the small size, I need to use the gauze because I could never do over one on 36 or 40 linen. Damn. Here's what I'm wondering. Since gauze should be secured and I don't want to use a hoop or the up/down stab method of stitching, would it be a mistake to add a stabilizer to the back? I think it's used for embroidery on fine fabrics or something (need to check Nancy Zieman's site). If that would stabilize the gauze and I could stitch through it, a solution! But before I ruin something I need to research. Nancy's Notions is such a great resource for items not available locally and her blog (here) is full of goodies and hints. I used to watch her show but it was taken off my cable line-up.
If you have experience with the stabilizer or gauze, I would appreciate some info. You gals have taught me a lot over these years.
That's it. Need to get an ice pack on that jaw.
Have a wonderful day.

When I stitch on silk gauze I place the gauze on a piece of scrap fabric or muslin, making sure the fabric is big enough to fit the hoop or q snap I'm using. Then I place the piece of gauze in the middle of the fabric, zig zag or straight stitch all around. After sewing, I carefully cut the fabric away just inside the stitching line leaving the gauze exposed.
Are you sure the raccoon doesn't have rabies?
You are a hoot. I've learned so much from your
blogsite. Will be looking for the pen and will
check out the other blog to see what you mean
about gauze. When I embroider on muslin, I
use two pieces like Phyllis said so that there is
no shadowing so that makes sense to me.

I don't embroider so can't help there I'm afraid. Your raccoon is so sweet! Hope your jaw is better soon. I've never seen Doves in the UK but am glad you can still manage to indulge.

Glad your mouth surgery is over, Marly, but just reading about the needle hitting the nerve makes me shiver... Ouch! Well, you mentioned wanting to lose a few pounds, right? Being unable to open your jaw will certainly help. Hope it heals quickly for you :)
I'm wondering if you want the small size and are willing to try stitching on 40 count silk gauze doing the tent stitch why not do the same on 40 count linen there would really be no difference except that you could use the sewing method on the linen. Just a thought.
I prepare my silk gauze like Phyllis mentioned.
I was wondering the same thing as Carmen.
Boy! Nothing stops you from Dove. ;)
Buddette really made Madeleine and I smile.
HA! I thought I had never heard of them and when you posted the picture I realized I have a pink highlighter from frixion I use on my patterns - erases right off if you make a mistake! I got mine from 123 Stitch. Love your little coon - she does look sweet. We have one that is always rearranging the bird feeder! Hope your jaw and your kitty are better soon!
Hope your mouth heals quickly! Thank you for the picture of the pen! I will have to look for them. I do hope Nitzy is okay from what attacked him.

I hope your jaw and Nitzy will be feeling better soon. Must be that yellow cat doing the damage. Buddette is a sweet little critter.
Take care and enjoy your Dove.

Glad things are settling down for all. That little raccoon is so sweet. I kept thinking of that eyeglass commercial (Penney's, Sears?) where the lady is telling her cat to come in and cuddle with mommy and it's a raccoon. I love that one. Anywho thanks for the entertaining blog. I learn a lot! Hope your kittie feels better.
Could you/would you use a cardboard frame that you attached the gauze to? With the center cut out? That's the only thing I can think of, instead of a hoop. Sorry about your jaw, the cat, and hope that Budette fattens up soon. . . . We have a big one ( I'd say, oh, 30 lbs) that comes around and hubs named it Sugar. . . .
Don't put stabilizer on the back. Then you won't be able to see the holes! The advantage of using the silk gauze is the huge holes. What you do is place the silk gauze on something like muslin, sew around the edge to attach it to the muslin. Then very carefully cut the muslin away so the silk gauze is all that's in the middle. Then you can use a hoop of the right size or a frame or scroll rods to hold the muslin and silk gauze. Google it-- there are videos around to show how to do it. And seriously, It's so easy to see the holes when you use silk gauze. No stabilizer while stitching!
I can't help with the gauze as I have never stitched on it. So sorry to hear about your jaw, something you did not need!!!
I've used the Frixion pens for quilting and applique with good luck. Since I don't plan to put any of my work in the freezer, it works well for me. :) I've also used a fine fusible on the back of fabrics before embroidering and it not only works well but it keeps the fabric from distorting. I've never sewn on gauze so I don't know about that. You don't stab stitch? Sigh. I do and it's so slow...maybe that's something I should try to change? Relearning this skill tests my patience sometimes. blessings, marlene
Sending prayers and blessings to you. I hope you find some nice suggestions for your stitching. I couldn't stitch over 1 on 36 or 40 either. Looking forward to following this piece. :) Cathryn
Just wanted to say "thanks!" for sharing the link to Kathy Barrick's new website . . . a feast for my eyes & so many of her patterns I'd never seen before.
Thank you for feeding the racoon. They have a right to this earth too and need a helping hand sometime. Not many people are kind to them.
What a sweet raccoon. So kind of you taking care of her
Hope you are feeling better
Thanks for the tip about the pen. I'll have to look one of those up. I've had that same thing happen at the dentist before. It's pretty shocking when it happens. Hope poor kitty feels better soon and you as well. What a sweet little momma coon. Love that she eats cookies.
Well, I hope your mouth is feeling better quickly. At least that's one thing out of the way!!! (trying to be positive...)
Love the pens--will look for them here!
Poor kitty--I guess he was just scared and didn't want to be messed with at the moment. I hope he's healing now.
That's the sweetest little raccoon. I feel so sorry for hungry animals--and my heart melts that she's eating a cookie! She knew you'd be kind, so she came to you!
