Hello people. I received an email from a stitcher asking if I knew of any memorial samplers. She lost her 28 year old daughter several years ago and would like to stitch a piece in her memory to be passed on.
I looked back in the posts because I remember someone sending a photo of how they personalized my little free piece. Denise stitched it for her sister with their parents' names and added her mom's angel pin. I searched for memorial samplers from real designers for her, but I didn't find many at all. These two from Midsummer Night designs are very nice.
Does anyone have any suggestions or sources that I could pass on to her? Are there others that you know of? Surprising to me that there aren't more or if there is, how hard they are to find. Would appreciate your help.
I finished Robina with linen and thread color changes and used the brighter red. Robina at 13 was playful and colorful, and me at 64 is dull and drab. I thought it was time for a little fun. The colors will look great on my lighter paint hanging from a knob. Hope to finish her in a few days. When I see it, it will remind me to have fun and be a little more colorful. The only way I am currently, is with my language.
Thanks for visiting.

I'm sorry for the stitcher's loss. I don't know any samplers by "real" designers. My suggestion is to stitch one of her daughter's favorite poems or passage from a favorite book. She can design a border and use classic sampler motifs to round out the background.
Look at mybigtoedesigns.com. Go to catalog. Go to inspirational. Debbie has done some great stuff that would work well. Her designs are great to stitch.
So sorry for the Stitcher's loss. I can't imagine losing a child. The Scarlet Letter has several 'mourning' samplers that might work. The one I am partial to is called Four Angel mourning sampler. Linda f
Sorry can't help with the memorial sampler but just wanted to say how much I really like your sampler the colours are lovely against your units.
Stoney Creek has one in one of their magazines.
I don't recall what issue.
But, maybe she could contact them and ask.
Sorry for her loss also.

As a mother my heart grieves every time I hear of someone losing a child. It has to be an unbearable grief. Your sampler is wonderful - love the bright colors. blessings, marlene
So sorry for her loss. Not able to make any recommendations tho.
Robina is fun....
I am glad to see you are getting good suggestions. Stitchers care!
Marly, I am so surprised. I expected to see following pictures showing how you dulled the colors down with stain or something. I like it! No, I love it! :)
Hi Marly, love your sampler with the bright colors -- fun!! I was going to suggest the Four Angels Mourning Sampler by the Scarlet Letter - it's a beautiful piece.
Congratulations on getting Robina finished. I love the pops of color on the linen you used. How fun that you stepped out of your normal with the brighter colors.
I have no suggestions, but will give you a heads up about the sampler from Midsummer Night's design. It is hard to come by.

Attic Needlework has the Midsummer Night Memorial Sampler. Here is a link to the newsletter with it: http://www.atticneedlework.com/Newsletters/2014/20141201_Newsletter-web.pdf
The Scarlet Letter Mourning Sampler is a beautiful one but lots of over-one stitching in it... she could do it on a higher count if she preferred.
Memorial sampler designs are hard to find. Here is another one that I have found. http://morninggloryneedleworks.com/Original.html
I always look forward to reading your blog!
Always sad , Four angeles is nice, I was thinking of f adapting a sampler. I know designers don't like it. We all do it though. " Longfellow's round tower" would be nice adapted, just drop the border down and add her daughters name.
Thanks for posting these. This year I've lost my daughter and my sister, so have been looking for something to stitch. Especially for my granddaughter.
thanks
Sandy
