Christmas is over

and big girl (expanded cut of linen) Sally will be too.  Soon.  May not make it by year's end but shortly thereafter.  The bottom area that I dreaded continuing and where the majority of errors occurred is completed.
Whew.  But because this big girl (quite adequately proportioned for the amount of stitches) was rolled for easier handling, I forgot about the specialty stitches and the vase above.  It shouldn't be too bad because "specialty" means "do as you wish".  If I have trouble with the stem stitch it becomes satin, if a Queen riles me it becomes my made up diamond stitch or wonky eyelet.  Border?  BORDER?  Good grief I forgot all about that too.  My enlarged coloring copies were short of that edge.  Although I hate stitching borders, this shouldn't become a problem either because the testy part is over.  The house needs filled, also an easy task.
I just didn't realize there was so much more to her.  After unrolling and pressing her, I realized this big girl (expanse of abundantly stitched mass of linen) is my largest piece and fabulous colors.  Well worth the frustration I had with this project.  She measures appox. 23 x 24, larger than my Lucy Redd.  Politically correct or not, she is one big ass gal.

So am I.  Damn those sweets.  Once I start I can't stop.  I decided to munch on this broccoli salad between cookies, just so my body knows there are still green foods. I use Hellman's light mayo and add sugar (or substitute) to my taste, cut the broccoli into smaller florets, add golden raisins, sunflower seeds, and chia seeds.  I forgot to shake the water out of the broccoli after washing and this batch is a little runny.   This isn't Pioneer Woman's blog so no fancy dishes, my salad goes in a plastic container.  I don't know why I don't care for her but I don't.  And Oprah!  I taped her show back in the day and adored her but for me, something about her changed.  The new commercial for WW about bringing her to "this most powerful moment" has people in tears.  I don't get the powerful moment since she has recognized and talked about her weight for years, trying many different plans.  This time, she bought 10% of the company, became a board member, and their stock rose 53% making her more millions.  Weight Watchers DOES work if you stick to the plan that seems to change every year.  I'm sure she will have success.

Anyway, have a safe and happy new year!
Hope 2016 is a good year for all.

Thanks for visiting.

Sally may be a big girl but she's a beauty for sure! I follow Weight Watchers and have, off and on, since 1978. Yes, it's changed over time but the one thing that never changes is that it works if you follow it. I've been off more than on, as evidenced by my current weight. But I've been back on for eight weeks and have lost 12 pounds. I wish I could it alone but I know myself well enough to know that I have to be accountable to someone other than me. Your salad recipe sounds good - I'm going to use Splenda and try it! blessings, marlene

I don't care for the Pioneer Woman either........I wish they'd put Paula Deen back on one of the food channels. And as for Oprah...............
My daughter has lost 55 lbs. over the past two years on WW and she doesn't go to a gym to exercise. She has stuck to the program consistently.
Your sampler is lovely. I'm so glad you decided to finish it.
Wishing you and your family a very special, carefree new year.

If I had a personal chef (as Oprah does) I'm sure it would be easier to stick to the WW plan. When I have trouble losing weight on WW I get angry at myself for spending the $ for them to tell me my weight's fluctuating. And you buy the electronic food scale that pops out info and they change the plan so it no longer applies. I know - it's a business. I weigh my handspun yarn on the scale so it does get used a lot!

Sally is beautiful! And huge! Great work!
I feel the same about the PW and Oprah. I think the PW annoys me just because she tries so very hard to make her life seem so perfect. I get it, it's what she likes (all those pictures and making every meal sound so perfect) but it's not for me. I don't buy the hype. Plus I'd rather look at a stitched WIP than an artsy pic of dry ingredients in a bowl. I used to love Oprah but I think her uber-wealth made her pretty... arrogant? Lack self-awareness? She changed, and I just can't relate to that private jets and mansions in Hawaii life.
Yeee-ikes. Sorry for that rant. I could have just been nice and said I totally agree with you. Grief.
Great job again though. You're amazing, and I'm so glad you're feeling the payoff of sticking with her. Leave no girl behind! Especially the big ass ones! - SF

Amen, sista! I don't like either one of them too much anymore either. They have both bought into their press! Beautiful BAG, I must say! I agree with anonymous, leave no big girl behind. or maybe leave no big behind, girl? Best thoughts for your new year. I surely hope it is a much better one for you and yours.

Some of my best friends are big ass gals...and I love them just as dearly as I love your Sally. Holy honkin' CRAP....that is HUMUNGOUS!!! I didn't realize that until I really looked and let my silly mind wander over to "gee, could I? how many stitches? Are you freakin' NUTS?!!" She is beautiful in every way possible my friend...but the bittersweet, melancholy, verse is what tugs at my heartstrings. Pioneer Woman? Hmmm...I must truly be behind the times.... She's as unfamiliar to me as are green food (not counting the green frosting on my cutout cookies or the green wrappers on the Andes' Candies)..... Smiles & New Year Hugs ~ Robin

Sally is big and she pretty too! We need a kitty update! What's happening with the fur kids? Oprah just lost any appeal when she went and opened her own network.

LOVE Sally!!!! Gorgeous and worth all the effort you've put in. Oprah -- didn't she say she has like a thyroid condition or something that causes her to be overweight???? So why is she buying WW and starting the dieting again? I don't get it.

Love that sampler and love that broccoli salad. I make it all the time. In fact I had it the night after Christmas when we had fried oysters. Happy New Year!

Sally is my kind of gal, in my dreams. I know myself well enough that it would always be a WIP. Kudos to you for an outstanding job WELL done.

WW FREE is a gimmick! Now that I know the facts guess I will not be joining...I don't like being suckered in for an already very wealthy others profit. I'll just flounder along on my own. It works for me if I am true to myself. Besides, OW is not my kind of gal. PW is OK, hubs actually likes her... maybe it's those dimples, sadly, mine are not on my face...Have a happy, healthy and Blessed 2016.

Peace to all & GOD BLESS AMERICA,
Barb

Sally is going to be a beauty when she is finished! My DD loves broccoli salad so I copied your recipe down. As far as Oprah is concerned, I pay very little attention to her now days!

Sally is looking fine, fine, fine! Well I'm totally disappointed in WW. I like PW but not O. I can't stand the woman and now that she has her hands in WW, it has changed drastically. Foods that were 3 points have suddenly become 4 or 5. I could go on and on about WW post-Oprah, but we would be sitting here forever. So I up and joined Lose It! It's an app and so far so good. Only been on it for 1 day! Change is good, right?!

Sally is wonderful!
How many hundreds of pounds has Oprah lost and gained back again? WW does work. I think it worked for me because I did not want to be embarrassed. My first week I gained...after that I lost every week. Of course when I quit it was not pretty :(
Hugs :)

Love your sampler. Don't like that Oprah ad for WW. It's all about big bucks for their bottom line. WW was in trouble financially that's why they got Oprah. How can she be down to earth when she is so
wealthy?

Dang..thats a lot of linen and stitching. I call those "wall hangings" in the quilting world.
I love Samplers and counted crs stitching, but can no longer do it.
Kudos to you for finishing this beautiful piece, love you named her.
PW was interesting at first, now she has cookware and very heavy dinnerware in Walmart.

I remember when Oprah wheeled out a wagon stacked with 70# of fat the first time she lost weight on her show and wore jeans.

Sally looks great! I have to agree with you about Oprah -- she has changed -- and I just can't stand to see her anymore.

Wishing you a very happy and healthy 2016!
