Here it is. It. is. primitive. Will I ever spend this much money again without seeing the product first? No.
We have much work to do on this piece, but as I said, I love the look and it is very comfortable. Sitting in DR Dimes, Treharn, and other top makers is not, because of my long torso, big arse, or maybe because they are reproductions which require a shorter seat. I also have no intention to spend close to $1000 for one chair. Once we are finished cleaning this up, it will be perfect for me, as long as the pine seat doesn't crack. You can see the edges from the wood chisels, paint drips on the back, very sharp edges, spindles beneath that weren't trimmed, but a nice wide and deeper seat for my wide and deeper seat.
The look I wanted, the fit I wanted, and willing to put the work into it.
With just a flat paint finish, it will be easy to repaint and touchup after sanding and scraping so that's another plus. I will not varnish, but wax it with my favorite car wax, Collinite paste. Good stuff.

The word that came to mind when I saw your photo was 'dignified'. Now that's a CHAIR! I can understand why you are willing to put the time and energy into it, as it is gorgeous.
Love it!!
Ohhh what a find. It is perfectly awesome. Wished I lived where more of this kind of stuff was available but it just does not happen often in Southern California, especially the high desert. You will make it a showcase piece and I am happy for you. Can't wait to see it finished ... so I can drool some more.
Peace to all,
Barb
What an awesome chair Marly. I look forward to seeing what you do with it.
It is definitely primitive. And it sure sounds like you know what you will be doing to it. Look forward to seeing the end result, that you will love! Hugs!
I love the handmade look of this chair. What a find!
I'm sure once you work your magic on the chair it will be perfect.
Hugs :)

I have a chair fetish... And this one suits my fancy very nicely. Tres gorgeous my friend... I do truly love the lines and look...but, yeah...I see what you're talking about....and have an inkling of what these things go for, am cringing with you. At least you have the know-how to "fix" it. Thanks for the car wax tip. Dang I learn a lot of good stuff from you.... Hugs ~ Robin
Perfection!!!.. Love it!
Hi Marly - The chair is BEAUTIFUL! So primitive, I love it! Have a great Valentine's Day. As far as I'm concerned, ANY time is ice cream time... Enjoy! Cheryl
I can see why you fell in love with that chair and HAD to have it, Marly. I know it will be even more beautiful with your TLC. Happy Valentine's Day--hope the Dove Chocolates Fairy is good to you :)
I love Windsor chairs. I looked for years trying to find antique ones and then I went to an artist guild gathering and there was a man that made them like the original ones. He did not use any power tools. He had went to New England and studied and apprentice to learn to make them. I purchased 6 windsor chairs. His studio was close by so my husband who is tall, was able to go and make sure his chair's seat was big enough for him. I was also able to select the type of finish I wanted. They were expensive but I was able to get the chairs I wanted and do not plan to ever buy anymore dining room chairs.
LOVE the chair - so cool!!
