Hope all is well with you and yours.
I saw this photo on Earlene's Facebook post. Liked them, thought they were very long pine cones with the scales scraped off. So I tried with mine. Extremely hard to break or cut through, could not get a nice result. So many different cones from different trees so I'm sure there are some that are more accommodating to having their scales ripped off.
While golfing last week Mark found these under a large evergreen and brought a few home. Every one on the ground looked the same so we wondered if they fell from the tree like this or a bunch of OCD squirrels chomped them all to match. The end scales are very thin and easily removed so I'm assuming they are the result of a squirrel banquet. But from what tree? My spruce and pines are much heavier and shorter than these. Any help?
I've been running into town for appts and blood work which are very close to JoAnn's. But each time, I have failed to remember the 3864 DMC that I need to complete his face. I am anxious to finish and may just use the pinks. I changed his belt and moved his left eye over one stitch. I'm thinking a half stitch or two of white around the eyes may look better, but I won't know until the face is done. Haven't decided color of the tree's sack yet. The beard called for 613 which I used but on this fabric, I think I would have liked it a little lighter. Nothing stopping me from changing that but again, won't know until we have face time.
We'll be having Thanksgiving here, just the five of us. I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. Hope your day is filled with love and your turkey is free of hormones.
Thanks for visiting.

I just asked our tree specialists here at work and the first thing out of his mouth was looks like the squirrels got to them... and he is thinking that it might be a white pine due to length of cone with out seeing the actual tree. The squirrels strip them to eat the seed that are located at the base of each scale. Hope that helps.
HibMarly, silly me, here I thought the Garland Earlene had was stripped corn cobs not pinecones, sheesh.... Love the Santa, hope all goes well,Hugs Francine.
He's a very cute santa and doesn't it annoy you, when you forget just one colour thread like that? I do it all the time.
Interesting pine cones.... don't think I've ever seen them.
Your Santa looks great! The colors are wonderful!
Such interesting pine cones. I have no idea what they are and I have a fairly large collection of pine cones!( much to my DH'S dismay) Love Santa, he looks wonderful .
It appears to be Spruce. Indeed the squirrels have already had their feast. Within the pinecone are little flat seed flakes that squirrels love to eat. They aren't really eating the whole pinecone like it looks like. Who knows.. someday you could look up in a tree and see the squirrels tossing down their pinecone pieces and you'll think of pinecone cobs;)
Happy Thanksgiving Marly: Love the pinecone idea they are so cool, I think I might have to try this.
Your Santa is adorable, I think white around the eyes would enhance the eyes.
I hope all your appointments are going well.
Blessings

Oh, Marly, I was going along with you right up until you wished me a turkey free of hormones and then I lost it! I laughed so hard because that remark was you all over! Yep, I'm right there with ya in regards to the old hormones. I will be flying to that garden spot called Chicago to spend my Thanksgiving with my daughter and her family. Maybe the extra heat from the missing hormones will do me some good?
Have a wonderfully delicious Thanksgiving. ENJOY!
I think your trial and error on your stitching is so amazing. Three cheers for you!!!
I don't know about the pinecones but I would bet on squirrels.
Have a special and Happy Thanksgiving. Love your Santa and look forward to seeing your final color choices
Spruce, methinks! Check this out:-

Sending best wishes for a warm and wonderful Thanksgiving.
Love your Santa !
The pine cones are amazing. Didn't know that squirrels would think of stripping the cones to get to the seeds. BUT, squirrels are smart little animals. Mark is a great guy to think to bring the cones home.
Blessings always.

The idea of hanging the center stripped piece of pine cones is beautiful! I have a lot of pines but would love to see a White Pine. We have standard longleaf pines. I love the pinecones and hope to do something with them for the birds and yes the squirrels for the holidays. I may try to strip our cones to see what they are like. You can order the long cones like they get in California. They are beautiful, but I like to use what I have locally. During the holidays I put baskets of them near the front and back door for decoration. This year I bought a long basket to hang on the front door and will put branches of holly and pine and magnolias, what ever I can find. Trying to keep things natural, simple, and plainer, like hormone free turkey.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!!
Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Santa is great, love the skinny tree.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family as well!! Your Santa is looking mighty spiffy so far. Love those beautiful rich colors you selected as well.
Interesting pine cones. I have never noticed ones that squirrels have stripped. Maybe just not the right kind of trees in my area. Very nice santa. Happy Thankgiving.
