Explosive news

Got 'ya to look!  That's what TMZ and all those ridiculous ads and headlines do to pull you in.  I don't fall for it any longer.  But this unusual incident created a real mess and I thought I would mention it.

Today was load the freezer with zucchini breads, reruns tomorrow.  I needed to melt the coconut oil and proceeded to the microwave as always.  But this time, I had already measured the vanilla into the small bowl, then added the solidified oil over it.  It practically blew the door off.  Did anyone know that vanilla explodes in a microwave?  It rocked the oven and blew melting coconut chunks everywhere, right in the middle of mixing the batter and tending to a full batch in the baking oven.  What a fricking mess.  I've made bread pudding and other goodies containing vanilla in the microwave before without issue. But this time it was the only liquid and exploded before the oil began to melt.  In another bowl without the vanilla, no problem at all.  My assumption is that vanilla must be mixed with other ingredients, but I have no plans to back that up with documented experiments, nor would anyone be microwaving vanilla!  Just happened this way and thought I would warn you.  Scared the zucchini out of me.

And what the hell is this?

If it was pure vanilla, maybe it had something to do with the alcohol in it. I'll try to remember this for future reference.

I was thinking like, Susie Wilson said, it may be the alcohol in the vanilla.

I'll remember to be careful.

OK, I'm sorry but this made me laugh out loud. No one can take a horrible situation and make it this funny except YOU. I don't handle disaster type situations like you....I would be mad at everyone and everything for the day and the little stitching....love your blog

Mercy!!! (But I must say, I'm loving that little primitive piece you've got going there...).

I read your posts, no matter what the titles are! But, that was interesting to know and kinda funny to imagine! I know shortening doesn't take much time to melt in the microwave! :/ And maybe you started that little project, and changed your mind, temporarily... Time to decide now... IF you can find the chart! Hugs!

OMG! Laughing at your expense again. That had to be awful. I will remember to never do that. I would have loved to be a mouse in the corner to watch this event...oh my, no not a mouse, you have hunters in your house. As far as the stitching piece, I see the beginning of something wonderful. Hope today is much kinder to you.

Ugh - am sure that was an awful mess! But now that I'm thinking of explosive vanilla, I'm remembering recipes with instructions that specifically say to not add the vanilla till the stuff is off the heat - guess that's why!

Hmmm... were you designing a tiny parrot sampler, or did you pull him off something else?

Good thing you are ok. I had a good laugh about your "brick". I remember when I was first married I decided to make a loaf of French bread from my new cookbook. It took me nine hours to finish it!! By the next morning before I even got to taste it my French bread was hard as a rock. Lol, So I can relate to your problems.
