After two weeks

of what seemed like hundreds of adjustments, the open shelves are in.  If we would have hired Dominic for this, it would not have ended well.  Between the uneven floor, the wonky walls, the leaning cabinets to compensate for the wall gaps, and the one side being skewed, it had to be fit piece by piece here, not in a shop.  The level's bubble finally cooperated after several templates.  Decided to paint the top rather than stained wood since it would compete with its wood contents.  Done!  We were able to use the poplar from the first set of doors so that worked out.  Turned out to be very nice wood, it was the braces he glued to the inside of the doors that actually caused the problem.  We added 3/4" to the depth which also allowed us to cover the edges of the adjacent cabinets rather than having to perfectly align and also see the seam.

We were considering a simple wooden holder on the sides of the large cabinets to hold my stomper collection but that would be too much for me.  I like the cleaner look and how the simple wood items catch my eye.  The more displayed, the less I see.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Thanks for visiting.

It looks fantastic! I'd say you were absolutely right to go with the painted top - your display on your new shelves looks like it belongs in a magazine. Did you have that specific bowl in mind to put on the top when you were building it?

I empathize with the trim-a-bit-shim-a-bit type of project!

Well, well, well....now I see that I have missed out on a great deal while I was MIA. This cabinetry and the shelves look AMAZING!!!! I so wish I could master that “clean, uncluttered” look. Part of my problem is the existing template of the house.... all the stained wood trim and accents, doors, etc., dark wood ceilings, low ceilings, are basically a non-negotiable, unchangeable, given....just too difficult to change without tearing down the entire structure and starting over....and it also dictated (and severely limited) my decisions and choices WWR....as you will see if/when I pick up the thread of the WWR Chronicles again LOL. The other part of the problem is the hoarder in me that I cannot exorcise (not that I have tried overly hard...). So, I wil just have to look at your wonderful changes and sigh with appreciation (and a wee bit of jealousy ha ha).... Have a great weekend my friend.... Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Cabinets are so nice and clean looking. It's great that you and Mark have the knowledge of what and how to do it.
I wish I had more space for cabinets of some kind........just don't.
We're getting a good bit of snow. It's pretty but will be glad to see the flowers blooming again.
Went to Hobby Lobby with my daughter yesterday and found two new cross stitch books.
Want to make some smaller Christmas ornament/type decorations for a smaller tree that I have.
Got the Feb. issue of Early American Homes to see Judy Condon's home. Nice !
Take care.
Hugs,

Oh, Marly, this is heaven. I love the wood contrast with the white and the black hardware. You did an amazing job and I love it. Enjoy.
