Purge finds

Hi.  I'm almost afraid to ask how cold it is in your state.  We are in the deep freeze but the temps experienced are not as bad as other states.  I hope there are enough shelters for those in need and you know how I ache for the animals.

During the craft room closet purge, I found a few things that tickled me.  I love tiny tools and I kept my dad's smalls, came across a brass checkered handle screwdriver that I kept just because it was different.  To my surprise, the end unscrewed and out came several others, each smaller in size. The last one is the tiniest ever!  I was so excited!

I also found two more fans.  The first is very thin decorative wood ribs.

The fine material's design is pronounced white on one side, and metallic on the other.

It's much larger than the second one I found, similar to one I keep in my purse.  I should check, maybe it's the same!  These folding fans are so handy and really do a wonderful job during a flash.  So much better than those large flopping menus and brochures and credit applications I'm always removing from the nearest counter.  This one will stay in the family room by my chair.

My sister dated a military man stationed overseas when I was a little girl (over 55 years ago!) and he brought back many gifts from there, I think these were a few.

Not very interesting to you but I lead a boring life and it doesn't take much.  And when I find something that makes me smile, I like to share with my blog buds!!

Stay safe.

You have hit upon the reason I don't mind cleaning. Of course, I have to push to get it done when I find such interesting things as you discovered.

How fun! I love finding old things that bring back a flood of happy memories. For my birthday last year, my brother sent me a pencil box, a small linen mailing bag and a well-worn stick, all things he saved from our mom’s newspaper that she published for 33 years. You can see my post about it here: http://livetostitch.blogspot.com/2018/02/hello-february.html

So I get it!

Where I’m at in Idaho, we are lucky to have temps in the 40s and no snow. My heart goes out to everyone living through this polar vortex.

I LOVE your posts, it's the only blog I'm so excited about when feedly is sending a notification, I'm never deceived, I know I'm going to have something great to read ! I'm amazed by this screwdriver, so clever ! I have a couple of fans, they are not only useful but people were so creative with their designs... I deeply regret they are no more considered useful here, I guess people are now used to electrical things and too lazy to just wave their hand, it was so elegant !

I love that little screwdriver - I remember my Dad had one like it! It is amazing what you find on a "clear-out"!

Love your sweet set of screwdrivers. Don't things like that make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside ?
I have my Dad's compass that he used on his boat, the fishing reels that he used, a tiny oil can and several other special items of his. Have them on a shelf with the flag that covered his casket.
Love your fans. Each is so different and so pretty.
Stay warm. I guess your kitties are staying inside. Feel so badly for the other wildlife out in the cold.
Have a happy day.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.

I have the same screwdriver!! Mine was purchased by a friend for my daughter who was living in Boston. It came from Restoration Hardware and has a hammer on the end that screwed over the largest screwdriver. Many good memories and sure is handy.

I’m jealous.... You find fun things in your purges.. I had to dig through a few boxes of things stored from WWR to get at the back of the furnace (yeah, those -50 - -60 windchills had me thinking there was something not working right)....All I found was a box of oatmeal, a jar of molasses, some bag clips and water balloons. Really? Water balloons??? What the heck am I going to do with those???? (Makes me wonder what I had them for and what I DID use them for because the bag was opened LOL). Fun fans...I only have one...a 19th century mourning fan....(Tell me you’re surprised....). Robin

I used to have a hammer with the screwdrivers in the handle. Wish I still did! I have a case of tools that was my dads and are very portable. Getting ready to move, so they will come in handy!

A Matryoshka screwdriver - how cool! My mother had a fan similar to the folding one you found in the purge ... I think the plastic case/handle was light blue. I remember her saying my dad had brought it back from Japan.

My mother had a similar screwdriver set but it screwed into a hammer. I tried to see if there are any threads on the largest piece of your set but I couldn't see any. I don't think I have any of the pieces left from that set - but it's fun to see something so familiar.
