definition … anger than can barely be contained. My shock and flashback to The Blair Witch Project became seething rage, until I exploded with expletives that would make a rap star blush. If that's possible.
We know, have known, have friends with family members, that are addicts. Were any of them hooked because of a doctor, a pharmacy, or medical issues? Not a freaking one. I'm sure there are, but I do not believe that for the majority of young people. Regardless. Remember my nephew's girlfriend who stole my sister's wallet of several hundred dollars? She knew my sister has a hard time financially and we need to help her. Didn't matter.
Carole went to dinner with friends Friday night, came home, changed clothes, and emptied the little Valentine gifts from her purse. Following her routine, her keys and wallet went into their designated pockets and the purse was hung in its usual location. Saturday, Carole was in a panic thinking she left her purse at the restaurant, they said it was not turned in. But how could she drive home, unlock the door, empty the candy and change, if her purse never made it home? Impossible. She has been tearing the house apart for five days, notified credit companies, bank, applied for replacement SS card, pacemaker ID, and AV node ablation cards, driver's license, registration, car insurance, new car key fob and house key. What happened to her new purse?
Back up to a short period of time after she arrived home Friday evening.
Being hard of hearing, her TV is quite loud and sometimes, even with the noise, she will nod off for a minute or two. Chris called to ask her if she wanted dinner from the club, he was coming home from the bocce court. She unlocked the sliding patio door on the back porch for him. He soon called again to tell her to lock the door because the neighbor texted him that a car was parked in her drive at the bottom of the hill. So she did. Vince (the neighbor) texted again to say that he went over to them in the darkness (with his gun) and approached the vehicle. They had car problems and Vince being the good guy, helped them out and they went on their way.
Today we installed a new kitchen faucet for her and as we drove down the steep drive and pulled away, Mark slammed on the brakes. He looked at me in a strange way and said "I found her purse" as he pulled off the road and jumped out of the car. What? I got out and we stood in the middle of the road staring up into the trees, feeling like we were in a horror movie. Can't explain the emotion, fear, shock, and uneasiness I felt. There, hanging twenty feet in the air, was her purse. Perfectly positioned with its long strap, hanging across from her house in the trees, the eeriest sight you can imagine. Stunned, we drove back up the drive to tell her that those men came into her house while she was there, and stole her purse. Mark needed a long pole and ladder to dislodge it. The wallet was emptied of the hundreds I gave her for the tooth extraction, all else intact. Cash. Cash. No credit cards, no keys to steal the car, no bank cards, they only wanted cash. Drugs. Again. I am sick and tired of making excuses, feeling sorry for, giving benefit of doubt, for people that steal from family, friends, strangers, elderly.
They were not having car trouble. They walked up the drive in the dark, on to her porch, found the door unlocked and entered. Her purse was at that door and they would have been hidden behind the wall from where she was sitting IN THE NEXT ROOM. As they left, they tossed the purse, how it got that high up I do not know. It was visible from her window once Mark pointed it out, hanging so high among the limbs, it gave her shivers as if she saw a ghost. I can't explain the ghastly unnerving feeling of seeing it there.
I've had it. I will not trust a car broken down, I will no longer trust a person at my door, I will call police for anything I see.
And my pistols are now loaded you sons of bitches.

OMG! how lucky is she that they did not disturb her...I understand your seething and am inclined to agree with the guns...
You go girl, my Glock is loaded and ready in by night stand.
Do you think someone heard that she was leaving the door unlocked when he called her? maybe maybe not what a horrible thing to happen.
I have a habit of writing down plate numbers when I see a strange car in the street just sitting there, even if it is the young kids friends next door, you never know.
I put my purse in a safe place even far away from the door or windows.
I sure hope all turns out well for Carole.

I agree. I am also tired of society now viewing drug addicts as "victims". I know part of that is true. But I have had more hard times than most people and I have never considered drugs or alcohol as the remedy.
Terrible - but good thing they didn't go into the house and whatever.
Was this a set-up of some sort - incredible timing ?
Did anyone know she had cash ?
Please for now do not give Carole cash to keep - pay the dentist yourself
or with a card - unless she gets a video security system - she seems to be
targeted.
Oh my gosh, that is terrible! So sorry for you all. Some people are heartless, she is lucky she was not harmed. Can you file a police report and have Vince describe the thieves to a police sketch artist?
As bad as it was - glad it was not worse.
Pardon please - forgot who Chris is - but why did the neighbor
text Chris and not Carole or call Carole being it was her driveway ?
If Carole was to leave the door open for Chris - that meant he either
did not have a key at all or on him.
Is Chris the nephew with the thief girlfriend ?
Was this a setup to get the door open - did he happen to know
about the cash ?
Incredible that a thief didn't go in to look around but was just satisfied
with the purse.
Did Chris ever come up and into the house ?
Me - I don't open the door, that's it.
This is just sick.
Just like the Jussie Smollett case.
He is now playing the victim.
It's all about money.
Makes me sick!

So glad Carole did not get hurt, physically, in this situation. I feel for her and you, Marly. I so wish we did not have that kind of rabble in our midst.
It seems as if the "devil" is sitting cross legged in my family and yours too. Praying that times will get better very soon.
If tears would help, I could cry for you and your family. All that you do to help and some sleaze bags have to get their share too.
Life is just not fair.
Jim has a phone interview today. He's getting to the end of his rope.
Take care.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.
Understand your anger, one of son's girlfriends used heroine after Christmas dinner. Stupid me, I thought she had eaten too much and needed a nap. She stole from all of us before I realized what happened. That said, these people had information either from another person or by observation of the neighborhood, I am leaning on another person. Such a specific act. Other suggestions are good. But now, please realize, she is a target. They know the vulnerabilities and will be back most likely. The best investment I made at my MIL's home was an updated security system. Essential these days and I have a controller to lock and unlock without a keypad. She is forgetful. I live alone in the woods, have had intrusions, husband has guns. I have a watchdog, not a guard dog. She would only kiss you to death! I did have a guard dog, he went to his reward after 18 years, God love him he saved me once, now I am armed to the teeth. Isn't this pathetic? Does your police department patrol the neighborhood? Did you report the crime and request special patrols for a while? Of course, Carole needs to try to be more aware. Good luck, it is an uphill battle these days.
How sickening. So, I read your entire post to my husband. First thing out of his mouth . . . "well, it has to be someone who knew that door was open." I never gave that a thought, but now I agree with him. Someone may have overheard Chris on the phone. Is that girlfriend still in the picture - the one who stole from her before?
I am so very sorry about this. And I, too, am sick of the drug problems in our country. We do have a national emergency and need to do something about it. UGH!
Do what celkalee says Marly. I agree with everyone here. Carole is being targeted now. How very, very stressful and sad for you all. God help you. I am sure she does not want to use a gun herself? It is a sad world we live in that it has come to that.
sooo the thieves knew she had $$$ that she doesn't normally, sounds like the son's girlfriend had a hand in the whole thing to me. Somebody had to have told them where to find the purse to get in and out so fast. And it won't be the last time, sadly. Part of me says it's a good thing her purse was by the door. The thieving b*stards could get in and out with no confrontations. Maybe I've been watching too much Forensic Files lately, but I wonder if they'd have any hesitation to injure or kill her to get money. NOT blaming the victim here - another part says Carole needs to find a new location for her purse where she can keep an eye on it, and keep the doors locked at all times. Expecting someone (ANYone) or not. And I totally agree with 1st anonymous - no more cash to Carole, pay the dentist or whoever yourself. I don't mean to be telling you what to do - it's probably the last thing you need on a "venting the mental steam before a gasket blows" post. ((hugs))
sending virtual hugs and lots of telepathic support your way. a horrible, frightening, and sad situation- so glad nobody was physically hurt.
Oh! so glad she was not harmed. What a shame. Just sad that this is happening all over these days.
Marly, so sorry this happened. Does sound like someone knew something. I wonder if they know about your blog and are getting info inadvertently from it. Maybe it would be a good idea to not mention giving your sister help. These addicts maybe on drugs but will do anything to get their drugs. Carole's son needs to get rid of the girlfriend. Good idea for you to pay directly to doctor for Carole's needs. Best of Luck.
Grandma used to say "You lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas" Girlfriend should have been out of the picture long ago. Carole should be more "alert" and protective of herself. Someone passed opportunity information off to someone...too
clear cut to be happenstance. Perhaps police surveillance for a time might help. So sorry this has happened … In light that she is targeted, giving her cash in such amounts was not advisable. A pity one has to be concerned about such things.
I am so sorry for what happened to your sister and very glad that she wasn't injured. Everyone, please remember the phrase: "If you see something, say something". Call the police right away if you see or hear something suspicious. It's their job to investigate and determine what's going on. Do not feel like you are wasting their time. They want to know about it now - and not later. Pass along anything descriptive that will help identify the suspects: clothing color/style, hair color/length, any facial hair, glasses, hat, vehicle style/color/license plate number, direction of travel, etc. I am a police dispatcher and we always welcome these calls so officers can respond and keep our community safe. Calling us at 3pm to tell us about something that happened at 2am does not help any of us.
I am so sorry Marly, we were robbed when we lived in Louisville. We lived off a main road. The police said they take the bus up the main road until they see a nice looking street, get off the bus, and rob houses. Then they get back on the bus with the pillow case full of your things, and away they go. They sell your things for drug money. I had all my jewelry stolen. I don't have overly expensive things but some were not replaceable like the watch my grandfather gave to me grandmother on their wedding day! Very sad!! We now have a big alarm system.I feel so sorry for all of you! It is a huge violation.
