The boots, the eyes, the shot, the tree

Good news from across the pond!  A reader friend and collector of Sharon Cohen designs was searching for her Tree of Life Book Cover chart and I saw one on FB.  The seller didn't ship international so I purchased for her and mailed it after a postal mix up.  I got an email today that it arrived in excellent condition!  YAY.  I love it when a plan comes together.

My eye doctor had the most fabulous boots I ever saw on a man.  Square toed with silver trim on the outsole, not much tooling, I wanted them.  My eyes are healthy he said, but extremely dry.  Trying a prescription he feels may help, but I need to continue with the OTC drops every hour also.  When discussing the symptoms, he nodded when I said my PCP feels the flu shot incited this riot in my glands.  Really?  Yes, he said.  He has a friend out west that is a vegetable after one of the minuscule  live viruses reacted with his system and settled in his brain.  It is extremely rare, and he does not recommend foregoing the vaccine.  Bull balls baby.  I will never get another.  He said most doctors do not believe it can happen, patients are not warned because the chance is so very slim, but I am one of the unlucky ones.  He believes this because the symptoms came on like gangbusters within days of the injection.  Sjogren's onset is slow and insidious, usually taking years before diagnosis.  Too quick, too intense, a definite reaction.  So there you have it!  And to top it off, my recent blood work is not showing any inflammation and the doctor feels it is because of how quickly this happened, and my body has not had time to process the change.  Whatever, boot man said it will never get any better.   And he recommended I continue my annual flu injection.   He said when I received it, my immune system was compromised because of the sinus inflammation, weakened by the antibiotics I had taken the week before, and the timing could not have been worse.  Makes sense I guess.  I'm still ticked.  Maybe soon I will be plucky about it all, but right now the only pluck in me is for the menowires on my lip.

Taking Carole to my dentist today for whatever she needs and at the same time I can ask him what I can use for my tongue.  The dryness has caused deep fissures and it's on fire like a stitched piece that caused me grief.  We'll stop at a sub shop on the way home, DD for an iced coffee, and I'm taking her into Walmart so she can get a few things.  Sun is out (which kills my eyes) snow is gone (which makes me happy) ass is bigger (which makes me angry).

Have a great day!

I guess your eye Dr wouldn't like me. I am allergic to the flu shots and never take them.

Hang in there.

Hmmm, I was taught the flu injection does not contain live viruses. The nasal spray vaccine does but they are weakened.
I'm going to hold positive thoughts for you that if all of this is reaction to your flu med this syndrome will wear itself out and just go away. I can't believe you are left to tolerate all this discomfort. Nope. Not acceptable.

I'm glad your eyes are at least healthy, Marly! Hopefully, the dryness will lessen with the eyedrops in time. My mother won't get the flu shot as a woman in her senior living community was unable to walk ever again after she had one. I guess you just don't know how you'll react. Frustrating and scary to say the least.

Not sure what's going on with all the sun we've been getting over the past few months in western PA! I'm not complaining, but I'm sorry it wreaks havoc on your eyes. Hang in there...

Glad to hear your eyes are healthy...
But I cannot believe he said to continue the flu injections!
In my country there are warnings that the injection can make you very sick!
As you know by now too!
Still hoping and praying that there will be a solutions for your healthproblems.
Big hug to you
Greetings,Truus from Holland

The flu shot was the cause of these awful problems but you should keep on getting flu shots? Yeah, that makes incredible sense. Yeesh! Good to know your eyes are healthy, at least. Will continue to hope that your problems lessen.

Delightful that you could help your friend get the Sharon Cohen chart!

That is such a weird situation. I get the flu shot because the year I got the flu, I did end up in the hospital for a week with pneumonia. I guess we just can't win!! I hope you feel better and your eyes are helped with the drops!

Shit (yeah, I just said that.). You know, I never, ever, connect the dots enough to pay attention to whether flu (and pneumonia/other) vaccines may be connected to other issues. Cuz we know I have a lot of “issues.” (Why didn’t you take a quick pic of those boots???)

So sorry to hear that you are still unwell. I wonder if it might be worth trying something like acupuncture or Chinese medicine. Not that I have tried anything like that, but when nothing else is working. I am very cautious about having the flu vaccine, but did this year because of the long haul flights, but in future I will make sure that I am feeling fit before I have it.

So sorry about what the flu shot did to you. I have gotten them for several years with no problems.......not saying that cant' happen this Fall......I sure hope not.
Hoping you'll feel much better when warmer, more pleasant weather gets here.
So kind of you to help someone across the pond.......but that's you....a real sweetheart ! ! !
Love your comment about "boot man". They must have been SOME boots.
Take care and enjoy your day with Carole.

If you are not getting relief from the OTC eye drops, try some that do not have preservative in them. I found I was allergic to preservatives and finally got relief when I switched. Just one more thing they don't tell you! I'm sure they told you about Biotene oral rinse and toothpaste for your mouth and tongue. They also make a little spray that I use a lot. Keep one by the bed for nighttime too. Actually it is the xylitol that makes you salivate. You an also find it in some sugar free gum.
Hope you can get healthy again!

Never going to get better??? Yuck. Hope the drops can help you. That is a gorgeous chart by Sharon Cohen. (I would have liked a pic of those boots too!!)

This is so confusing to me. The flu vaccine does not contain live virus, it is dead virus. Hopefully the doctor is wrong and it will get better. It wouldn't be the first time a doctor was wrong. I hate to say this but drinking caffeine dries you out more.

Are you open to something alternative that may or may not help you? Check out Goodbye Lupus by Brooke Goldner, M.D. on facebook. She also has youtube videos and i believe a book or two. Her green smoothies healed her lupus and i hear also helps what you have. I just know they healed me of severe stomach pain.
