Are your JoAnn stores like mine with fabric bolts stacked against the wall? Do you slowly walk along that wall, eyes moving up and down, top and bottom? Do you ever look to your left or right while browsing thinking there may be an obstacle along the long open wall? No? Well you should, just in case there is a guy on a 10 foot high ladder changing a light bulb.
I have not started Ann yet because I knocked my equilibrium off a few days ago. Happens rarely but it is a nauseating and miserable few days until balance is restored. The Epley Maneuver helps many but I was just too sick to comply this time. The drug makes me very sleepy and lightheaded so bedtime has been early. I think I'm on firm ground now so I searched for linen.
This is the 28 count drawer where I found a 30 count Rook, but too small. Two pieces large enough but I really didn't want to bleach unless necessary. I checked the fabric kitted with the other girls and found the color I wanted in a piece larger than required which switches me into whining about wasting fabric.
I hate cutting into large pieces as much as I hate left over. This was dyed by me and I seriously doubt I would ever (or want to attempt) another dyeing session with the same result. A very nice warm brown/tan, not too dark. But why the hell would I save it when it's the color I was hoping to use? Bonehead crabass that's why.
I went to Pat Catan's after the doc and they are unloading their warehouses, sales galore. Lots of items sold out, tons of card stock and fabric, square mache box sets. I purchased two sheets of the mylar blanks (stencil material) for only $1 each. This material is perfect for lining a drum finish or a pouch, even ornaments that you want to be structured. It can be against the fabric or sandwiched between fill/batting. They received word that the store will remain open as Michael's which does not compare to the selection and prices Catan offered. The employees are already looking elsewhere because they were told wages will be the same as for new hires (which they will be), hours will be limited to a max of 16 per week. Some of these people worked there for over 10 years and were full time, many are over 65 and need to work. This will all take place in August. Honestly, I was never impressed with Michael's selections or their prices.
Visiting the Amish again this weekend for a few 4 inch pots. When I was sick, Mark drove back out there and bought me 3 hanging baskets of the darker Vista petunia I wanted. It looks so much darker than what I had before! It's a damn flower. They're all beautiful so suck it up. This was last year's plant.
Hope your weekend brings some smiles.
Thanks for visiting.

So sorry Marly. You have had more than your share of bad luck lately!! The fabric is beautiful. I do the same saving thing!! Not sure why!!!!
Nice linen stash...just came across mine yesterday and considering what to with it...don't even have a hoop anymore...
If it wasn't for bad luck, you would have no luck at all.
Nice linen stash!
Marly: I have to say you brought a smile to my face, suck it up is one of my favorite sayings, I have lately had to do a lot of that.
I hope you have a great weekend, so sorry to hear you had a little balance problem.
Catherine
Ok...I laughed out loud literally.... I will, indeed, be more aware and observant at Jo Ann’s from now on. The piece you have identified as perfect in every way except for being too large is wonderfu, and, ummm, yeah...huge! Hmmmm, I sometimes feel bad for “wasting” (although I convince myself it’s not wasteful if I save the “leftovers” for some yet-to-be-known purpose)...but I learned a not-fun lesson of stitching on a too small piece of linen and rather than swear off stitching for the rest of my life, I decided I would never ever be chintzy when cutting my fabric. Love the petunias..... I haven’t even been bitten by the flower/plant bug yet sadly..... A first ever for me at this time of year. Have a great weekend ~ Robin
I think you should just cut the linen and USE it! No time like the present!!
I look forward to seeing the new shade of petunias.
So you suffer from vertigo too? You poor thing! I hate vertigo! It seems to run in my family -- my father and sister get it, as do I. Hate it so much.....
Yes, "my" Joann has the Great Wall O' Fleece. All. Year. Except when it expands to include the Great Aisles O' Fleece. So far, no people on ladders, but the store is newish, at least on the inside. We'll not discuss my failure to see the tubs in the aisles catching leaks from the roof though. I"m glad Pat C's is staying open, bummer on the situation for employees. About all Michaels is good for is DMC floss as far as stitching supplies, IMHO.
Your thinking on the fabric for stitching is reminding me of one of those robotic vacuums that gets stuck under the kitchen table stymied by running into chair legs no matter which way it turns. I agree with those that say go ahead and use it. I suspect as much as you dislike leftovers, you'll love the fabric stitched up even more. Besides, if you dither too long, you might again lose interest in doing anything.
I had one episode of vertigo caused by the inner ear crystals, or as I call them - the rocks in my head. Not pleasant and I hope you get over it soon.
Strike while the iron is hot, Marly… you found the perfect color and can set it so hopefully there will be sufficient space for smaller items...Just hold on to your mojo. Your flowers are beautiful. We just got some drift roses in apricot that are
exquisite. Michael's needlework area leaves much to be desired as well as their ladder warnings....Hope the vertigo goes away and leaves you in peace.... Have a
good weekend.
I vote to use the fabric if it's the color/weight you want. Just have to let go. Michael's is my least favorite craft store-they always have some excuse or teeny tiny print so the coupons other than the usual 40% off one is useless. If I go I try to buy only one thing the coupon can be used for. Last time I got fed up with their BS and walked out with a whole cart of stuff on the counter-let them put it back. I never have that issue with Hobby Lobby and very seldom run into it at JoAnn's. I keep my eyes open because I'm tired of people bumping into me because they're not paying attention or have their eyes glued to a phone while pushing a cart directly at me. They say I'm sorry (maybe) and continue on their merry way looking at the phone so I know they're not sorry or they would start paying attention. It usually happens at the grocery stores. Courtesy is disappearing at a rapid rate along with common sense. Get better soon
So sorry to hear about the vertigo - such an awful feeling (and everybody says, what can be wrong, you look fine) ... hope it's long gone by now. Seems you just can't get a break lately.
Regarding cutting into that piece of linen - please, please don't do what my mother in law did with so many of her pretty things. That's right, she saved them until there was some event "good enough" to justify using them. After she died, we were so saddened by the contrast between what she wore every day and the things she'd saved for "good" - so many items never used, tags still attached. If that's the right piece of linen, use it! Cut off the excess and stash that - ornaments, bookmarks, probably other good uses.
Er... can somebody help me climb down off this soapbox?
