Baba's china

Hi everyone.  Been carting Carole to doc and labs for tests, searching online for her great grands' birthday gifts, and assembled one today.  Except for two results, cardio doc is pleased, so more tests the next three weeks and then a return to his NP.  As for me, my dryness has gone down my throat again and along with a very sore throat, I keep losing my voice.
Finally made it to the attic and haven't unboxed it all, but did manage to pull a few dishes out of Baba's china.  I don't believe there is a full set but I love it.  Not sure how it will hold up to daily use, the gold trim may be not be dishwasher safe, and with a stone sink and counter top, a minor bump could mean disaster.
I received a pattern today that was not what I expected.  The photo made it appear there were several slightly different patterns but there is only one.  And what really ticked me off, for a $10 pattern, it could use improvement.  The same pattern is in several reduced sizes on the BACK of the original.  So I still need to make copies!  I can't cut out any of them without ruining the one on the back side.  I'm disappointed and expected something other than a few pieces of copy paper.  At the very least, the reduced sizes could have been on another sheet.  And it's not even the pattern I wanted.  Oh well.  Buying online is usually a surprise.
Hope your week is going well!!  I'm going for pizza tonight.  I've been cutting sugar and white flour but have had more bad days than good so I'm having pizza tonight, and pasta this weekend!

Beautiful china! Enjoy it.
Pizza. Yum!!! I was bad tonight and had a gyro and fries. That was pretty tasty, too. Gotta be bad every once in a while 😱

The gold trim on china comes off eventually even with hand washing, so I wouldn't worry and if you like it, go ahead and use it. Best stuff, whether it be china, glasses or clothes, shouldn't be kept for best and used daily. We always have our wine or whatever out of crystal glasses and haven't broken very many over the years.

Select the pieces most reminiscent of those you love and dispose of the others if you must. I agree those older ones are very pretty. I used to call my Grandmother
Baba and now my grands call me the same. Love your memory of your Grandfather (Dida?) getting off the plane and his consummate generosity to those he left behind.
You carry that noble DNA, Marly. Hope your throat clears soon and that Carole gets
improved reports.. Have a blessed weekend and enjoy the carbs....

Hi Marly,
Beautiful china and I agree that if you love it, use it! Nothing lasts forever and life is meant to be enjoyed!! Hope you and Carole both get to feeling better soon and happy for some good results! You are both in my prayers! Pizza and pasta both sound like winners to me!!
Have a great weekend!
Heart Hugs~

We have a few sets of that china pattern too, creamer and sugar bowls. It was gifted to us from my husband's aunt who got it from her Mom, my husband's Grandmother and it is now residing at our daughter's home.

I vote to use the china. Yes, it may suffer over time, but would that outweigh the daily happy of using it? Especially if there's no one else in the family that would enjoy it.
Good news on Carole, bummer on your throat and the pattern.
