Framing Sally

Hi everyone.  We're approaching the double digits of July already.  Seems like we just started summer in PA!

I filled in Sally's door surround with the house color and plan to steam it, maybe the lines won't show as much.  The door frame was filled in with the window color and I like the result.  It's been a very long time since I mounted/laced a sampler and I am not looking forward to it, but she will be framed.  The boning has worked very well for hanging and there is no distortion in the linen.  Her 22 x 24 size will be the even larger with the wide frame and I plan to hang her on the dining room wall with a sconce on each side, keeping it simple.  I'm really glad I filled this in and it's made a big difference in the overall look.

So will we attempt making another frame?  Go to Michael's?  Hobby Lobby?  I have two local framing businesses that I will visit first, but my small pieces were all over $100 30 years ago.  I can't imagine what this one will cost now.  I've seen posts about a framer many stitchers use but I don't know about sending something this large.  There are several Ebay sellers that make custom sizes and since I will be mounting it, that may work too.  Not sure about glass, probably not.

Now I will return to ….  is it Ann?  I think so.  She's been tucked safely into a canvas pouch and hanging on my drawer knob to prevent another round of lost and found.

Have a good week!!

Marly: I like the saying lost and found, that is how I feel sometimes when looking for a design I have kitted up and it goes missing.
You have done a lovely job with the door, I do think the window colors make the door pop in just the right way.
I am looking forward to seeing Ann worked on.
Have a beautiful day.

This is beautiful. I just had a smaller piece framed at my local framer and it cost over $200. I have never framed a piece on my own and this was my daughter's wedding sampler so it was worth it, but I do shy away from pieces that need to be framed nowadays due to the cost. I look forward to seeing what kind of frame you decide to use.

Hi Marly,
Sally is GORGEOUS!!! You did a fabulous job and I hope the framing goes well for you!! Love the idea of hanging her with sconces!!!

Love it, good choice in colors. So glad to see you stitching again! Hope all the issues you are dealing with are in check for now. Prayers sent daily. Weather from Central Illinois, land of flat, corn and beans is horrible at the moment and will be over the weekend with a brief reprieve tomorrow and Friday. Not a summer girl!! Take care.

I will try again. It seems none of my other comments (3 of them) posted, but I was trying to do it from my phone.
Sally will be wonderful framed. Framing is so expensive. It's been a few years since I had something done (not stitchery) and even with a Michaels 60% coupon it was outrageous.

Oh, your sampler looks just perfect now with its new door, Marly! Great choice of color. I wish you luck with framing. I have been buying Goodwill frames and trying to make them work. I've found the tutorial here http://withthyneedleandthread.blogspot.com/2011/08/preparing-sampler-for-framing.html
to work well for me. I am planning on sending some special things to Total Framing in Virginia later this year--just need to save my pennies (lots of them!!).
