Magic gloves

Yesterday I cleaned the cat hair out of their sherpa like fabric pads and wanted to share before discarding that hair ball.  The fabric back is close to a knit and easily holds hair, the thick sherpa pile is even worse.  Very difficult to remove from either side.  After using the vacuum the fabric appeared to be swept well, but this is what I got from both sides of two pads by using the "household" glove.  Works great on car interior fabric, can get in seat crevices much better than a vacuum attachment.  Even Missy's terry cloth towel releases more.

Most times I just swipe the furniture or fabric with the palm or edge but because of the nap decided to use my fingers as if scratching, amazing how much more was embedded.  The gloves get quite dirty in the process so after using, I add soap and wash them while still on my hands.
I've never tried the latex gloves used by health care aides but don't believe they would hold up to the rubbing.  They may tear from the friction, or may not have the same grab.  Nitrile gloves do not work at all.
Try it!  You'll be surprised how much hair is removed.  I need to go over the same area many times but it's still quick and easy to use my hand and much more efficient compared to a tape roll or vacuum.  Worked just as well for our dog's hair.
Hope your week is going well.

Great tip, I have a cat bed that is impossible to vacuum. When I vacuum carpets I feel I should donate cat hair to a home for hairless cats!

Thanks for the tip. It is amazing how the pet hair weaves in to the fabric.

This is such a timely and effective tip! I just did this on my kitteh’s bed and it worked fabulously. I’ve been dreading the ‘packing tape’ hair removal method for 2 wks. Procrastination paid off. ^ ^

What a wonderful tip. Thank you. We got rid of carpet 10 years ago and I can't believe all the fur and dust that wads up together resulting in what I call Gremlins-worse than a regular dust bunny. I clean the gremlins all up and turn around to find one or two that came out from who knows where to laugh at me. I put a flat sheet over my beds because the cats sleep on them on and off. They claw or I find hairballs and just don't want them on my hand made quilts. It's a shame I can't enjoy the quilts like they are meant to be enjoyed. I only make table runners, wall hangings or mug rugs now....small stuff. I'm a dog person with no dog but have 4 rescue cats in the house, 3 in the heated garage and one lives outside because I can't pick him up. I put him in the shed at night now that it's getting cold. I put a dog house with bed inside on top of some milk crates so he should get more protection from the cold if he'll use it. I'm going to try those gloves on the couch and recliner. I bought something that looks like a black open weave sponge that works pretty good too. Can't remember the name of it-it was marketed to quilters for getting raveling off things.

Hi Marly: Thank-you for this post, I was unsure about the glove, I have seen them but did not want to buy one and not have it work.
I hope you are having a great weekend.
