Of all days!

It started last night, came on quickly, and my head is pounding hard enough to feel it in my teeth.  I have what Mark had, thought I skimmed it, but it's now full blown.  So what is he doing today?  Sanding and waxing the soapstone.  We're having dinner here the 24th and 25th.  It will take a damn big microfiber wand to get the fine dust from the rooms, even though the sander has a dust catcher.  Also not good for someone with a stuffy head and dry eyes!  But he's wanted to do it for some time, and chose today.

I was sending a note to a friend and while mentioning Mom, remembered these slippers.  She and her sister had little, but Christmas and Easter were the dress up days of the year.  Their best earrings, fancy dress, and always a pair of good slippers for when the heels became too much. These Daniel Green's were never worn.  I've kept them, a little too narrow for me, but I do love them.  There was a party at each aunt's home from Christmas through New Years.  And you dare not go without a good dress, husbands in suits.  We played Tripoli and other games, they made fancy drinks, and I so miss those times even though they were decades ago.

Got a little stitching done after several days of another eye flare up.  But the cold meds are making me quite drowsy so I don't know if the needle will be picked up tonight.

Enjoy your weekend!!

I remember Daniel green slippers! I would give my mother a pair every Christmas, at the time I think they were pricey.

Marly, hope you feel better by Christmas.Tough to be sick anytime esp. Christmas. I have been watching Mrs. Maisel on Amazon. I was born in that time period and love the fashions on it. I remember people wearing clothes like that. The dresses, hose, the girdles my mom wore.
Does bring back memories of times and folks gone.

Lovely slippers. They remind me of my Mom's trousseau slippers. So pretty. Have them in her cedar chest with the hat she wore.
Sorry you're not feeling well. This is such a hustle, bustle time of the year. I hope you will be feeling better very quickly.
Have been stitching Valentine things, hope to sell them at the consignment shop.
Take care of yourself.
Hugs,

Oh no, that's terrible timing. I hope you feel better asap. I love those slippers. My grandma used to have many pairs of Daniel Green slippers. I remember a gold leather, a brocade with gold threads, a mint green satin, she had a pair to match every peignoir set she had.

I love the slippers, I do remember those days with all family members dressing up, we dressed up for church every weekend and stayed that way all day.
Mike and myself still dress up for church, we have date after Mass on Saturday evening.
Mikes Family still dress's for the holiday, I love it, we are a bit old fashioned.

Merry Christmas from our home to yours

Hello! Merry Christmas from Massachusetts. I am here from reading The Cranky Crow blog recently. I love the story behind those beautiful slippers. I too remember when people dressed for church, holidays etc. My parents would invite friends over to play cards, have fancy desserts and occasionally a cocktail but mostly they served coffee with dessert. Wow, so many years ago. I did want to ask about your soapstone counters. You said that your husband sands them. Can you tell me more about that? We have soapstone and have many chips and dings in them. I love them when they are oiled but have been disappointed with the chipping. What kind of sandpaper does he use? Have you had the same problems with yours or is this sanding just part of your maintenance for them? My email is janice.hebert01 at g mail dot com if you'd prefer answering that way (if you get to answer at all!).
