Hello stitching buds.
I am asking for your input and help in choosing a magnifying lamp. Another flare up, and I have been struggling with 28 count while wearing 4.0 glasses. Over two has become over one or three and I am running in place and getting nowhere fast.

Many recommend the Brightech and I like the flexible arm model. The 5 diopter, what I think would be best, requires the work to be held closer to the lens for clarity. The 3 diopter at only 1.75x may not be enough even with my glasses if I want to use a 35 count. Does anyone have the 5 (2.25x) and is it hard to stitch because of the proximity to the lens? Or would the 1.75x be enough with my glasses? I would appreciate your opinions!!
Thank you.

I am blind as a bat without my glasses...astigmatism! I have a pair of older glasses I wear when stitching and I clip on a pair of Carson Clip and Flip magnifiers. (Amazon) It works perfectly for me. I don't think I could use a magnifying light because of the distance you mention. Don't know if you wear corrective glasses or magnifiers. It works with my old "sleeping" glasses...the ones my husband takes off for me when I fall asleep watching t.v. lol
Good luck!

I am so glad you are posing this question. I want to start stitching on 28 count or higher and will need help with magnifying and light . I wear bifocals now but take off to stitch in hand so look forward to seeing the replies you receive.
I bought 5.0 magnifying glasses from Duluth Trading Company, they were advertised as glasses for tying fishing flies but I like them for cross stitching. I also know there is a site called Readers.com that sell glasses in many styles and colors and have magnification up to 7.0. If I`m working on 36 ct. linen or above in addition to my glasses I also use an OttLite magnifier (the smaller round one that hangs around your neck and sits on your chest). Between the two I can see pretty much everything.
i have this light and I LOVE IT!
You may have seen this but if you go to Fiber Talk on you tube, Gary Parr and Vonna Pfeiffer have a review of some of their favorite things and Vonna goes into great detail about her bright tech lights, she has both, and off her her recommendation I bought the 3 diopter and love it, best light I've ever used for cross stitch, like you my eyes are bad. Its the Fiber Talk episode from December 13, 2019 titled fiber talk celebrates flossmas and her review starts at about 29 minutes into the video, this might help with your decision I bought mine from Amazon. Hi Marly: I use a 5 and magnifier glasses, I can use weaker glasses if I need to adjust to the lens, I hope you can resolve this problem, I think a good idea is to go to Joanns and try one of their magnifiers with your glasses on.
If you look up the item on Joann's web site and the same item is less on the web the store has to offer the in store item for the lesser price unless it says online only, I bought my lite for half price using this method.
Vonna gives very good advice but trying the lens in person is better, remember to use the joann's website when in the store, sometimes the items are offered for

bright tech is not sold except on there personal website or their store on amazon, you can't get them at Joanns
Its sounds like you've done your research and decided on Bright Tech, I have one and they are wonderful, I have tried a wide variety of different magnified lights and none of them compare to the Bright Tech, its by far the best. As someone mentioned they can't be purchased at box stores only directly from them or I believe through amazon, worth every penny.
I want to tell about the Dazor Circline light. It’s a magnifying light and I’ve had mine for about 20 years. With the same light in it. I used to wear bifocals but now wear readers because I’ve had cataract surgery. I also use a Bright light in my bedroom for stitching. I keep the dazor in the living room so I can stitch anywhere. Hope this helps. Hugs,
I have to agree on the Dazor lamp - it was a bit pricy but definitely worth it - I also have a Daylight with the 7" light/lens (Model U22080) which I would rate, not as great as the Dazor, but not to shabby. I actually bought the Daylight thinking it was what I originally bought - not - but quite satisfactory for a secondary downstairs lamp!
I have the Dazor light and brightech the brightech is way superior and the cost isn't that bad
