This too shall pass

Please offer to help any elderly or compromised friends, neighbors, or strangers with getting supplies. I don't know why the stores have not created purchasing limits as they do for sale items.  Some are getting extras for others, most are not.  What parent has raised these animals to physically attack others because they have something they want?  What entitlement mentality have they been taught?  I know.  I saw them when I was working.  And seeing previews of reality television shows is just as disgusting when they showcase screaming and physical altercations.  A way of life?

Kids are home a week at Thanksgiving, two weeks at Christmas, a week for "spring break", and three months in summer.  So they're home now for a few weeks or maybe a longer summer.  Most are on their phones and televisions and video games inside.  They can still go outside and get some exercise.   Maybe the people that watch over them all summer and other breaks can be called.  The real concern should be our vulnerable citizens and those laid off, small businesses that need to pay their bills, the lack of schooling for little ones, not the fact that kids are home.  Just my opinion, may not be yours.

Here's a really idiotic thought, but it's not my first and certainly won't be my last.  If this virus will wane when ultraviolet light becomes more intense and humidity rises as summer approaches, why can't infected people be put in a sauna twice a day?
There's your eye rolling smirk for the day.  You're welcome.

The sun is shining this morning.  My eyes will be bad, but I am convinced I can finish the tree today.  All the apples are hanging and the greens almost filled in, the trunk will be crossed.  I don't see a problem with the bottom border, famous last words!  The over one will be on a cloudy day.  So close!!  Already thinking of what is next.

AND!!  Another fricking skinny wild cat showed up.  Petey is still limping, Nit's ear is finally starting to heal, and this new guy is a lightweight and would be beat down badly.

Wishing everyone peace and safety, calm and deep breaths.  Every time our lungs expand with that air, be grateful, have patience.

It would be great if a day at the beach helped stop this virus but I think not. As always the young are invincible, I cannot imagine parents thinking it was a good idea for their college kids to go on"spring break". Just because if they get Covid 19 they will be fine, what about the old folks. My husband and are are over 70 he has lung problems and heart disease. My adult daughter returned form Key West last week . She had a package delivered to my address while she was away. My adult son would not allow her to come in contact with me. I had to leave the package in my driveway for her to pick up! I agree check on elderly neighbor to see if you can be helpful. Sampler is looking great.

I agree with your comment about ultra-violet light. It would be worth a try. Sometimes the simplest thing is the best things to do. Some hospitals took patients out into the sunshine and open air during the great flu in the early 1900s and they recovered much faster than patients confined indoors.

I remember reading that hobos would leave a code for other travelers at a home's gate as to whether the owner was likely to share some food or just chase them away. I'm beginning to think cats must codes houses, too. And yours has definitely been marked as "owner friendly".

The room in your photo looks so serene and calming. This corona situation is bringing out the best and worst in individuals. Your suggestion of reaching out to others is a worthy antidote for panic or greed, Marly. This is not a situation that is really new (remember the WWII and depression?) it requires the willingness to dig in and work it out...In general, we don't have that population that knew how to honker down and make do...we have become used to the good life.. but we can make it through if we are willing to follow the guidelines, live with inconvenience and make some sacrifices. I believe we can do it....and will.

It appears that this virus is not going to wane with ultra-violet light as it is running rampant in the southern hemisphere, where it is currently summer. We are trying to keep our elderly mothers safe and relatively happy. They are bored and lonely, but at least they are in their own homes. I am happy that our local grocer is offering senior only shopping hours and I now qualify. It is early in the morning, but will be much less crowded so that I can get a few perishables that we and our mothers need. I plan to go briefly maybe once a week. Stay healthy.

I just had to remark on Georgia's comment. The sign hobos used to mark homes of a kind-hearted woman was a cat symbol.

a fast googling - UV is effective for cleaning objects, but is not recommended for use on people due to potential for irritation and burns (and eye damage if aimed at your face*). And it seems there's many variations of UV lights and what type of UV and power they put out. So, it looks like it *could* be used but might cause more problems if used at a frequency they recommend hand washing. Not to mention problems caused by improper use due to the common "if a little is good, more must be great!" and "Instructions? what instructions?" mindset. There's UV-C which has promise of killing viruses and bacteria without damaging skin, but is still under study.

In short, UV sterilize your toothbrush, but not your teeth. Go work in the yard (the shower after will be the real cleaning) but don't sit in front of any old UV light. UV sterilize your toilet, not your behind.

*At work long ago, a black light bulb (used to see moisture proof coating on circuit boards) accidentally got replaced by UV bulb, and a coworker ended up off work for a few weeks with UV burns to her eyes. And that was not shining into her eyes, but reflected from the booth and what she was working on. It hurt like hell, and she could have ended up with permanent eye damage including blindness. Fortunately she made a full recovery.

Oh good grief, I'm going to stop commenting until I've started my 2nd cup of coffee! Just realized your suggestion was a sauna, not UV!! ungh.... more coffee....

and sorry about yet another cat.

Oyyy....the thought of a sauna makes my chest hurt... I just can't do them (but send me to the tropics and I will give that a shot LOL. I agree with all you have said...then again, I usually do. I know I have to buck up and go out to the store...probably sooner than later...but I don't know if I will be able to contain my aisle rage. I cannot believe the selfishness of the hoarding... Yes!! Finally someone who agrees they need to start rationing. My son told me he stopped at the store because he (really and truly) needs tp (trust me...this is a kid who will wait until he is out LOL)...store cashier said they just sold the last two cases to a guy about 5 minutes earlier. Hello????? I can see picking up extra for elderly relatives, etc. but CASES?? And the people buying up hand sanitizer as soon as they see it available and then selling it online for 10x what they paid. There are parts of me who say I will be ok if I don't make it out of this alive. SMH. Disgusted and Disillusioned in Nod ~ Robin
