Three flat cats

Petey practices social distancing ... lest he wants a smackdown.

And a bird in a can.

I saw five tiny eggs in there earlier and decided to take a photo.  Mom was not around, or so I thought.  I had the camera resting on the edge of the metal and flashed that bulb about six times, couldn't figure out why the eggs weren't showing.  After I almost lost an eye to a tiny wren in panic mode, I realized she was sitting on them.  This is right at the back door of the garage where the cats come and go without being seen.  I can't move the can, the stool is on cement making a shepherd's hook impossible for hanging.  Cats and coons can easily climb that stool.  If we get a downpour, she will be flooded.  I need to think of something rather quickly, storms are forecast.

Carole's friend's husband has been transferred to Cleveland Clinic after numerous errors and false information.  How frustrating when you can't see them or speak face to face with their doctors.  The friend who lost a husband after bringing him home was mine, not Carole's.

Bad news Mrs. O'Neil, we think your husband may have had a stroke.
We need to do an MRI.
Next day
Good news Mrs. O'Neil, the MRI shows he did not have a stroke.
Next day
Bad news Mrs. O'Neil, the MRI shows he had a stroke.
How many MRIs did he have?  One.
She has been very pleased with the communication and information from the Clinic, very glad he was moved there.
We need to take Carole next week but only one person is allowed to accompany a patient, so since I can't drive, Mark will take her for the day and I will stay home.  Carole is ticked and plans to call them and ask for a variance.  I told her to let it go, I don't think all three of us need to be exposed to three different departments of testing and such.  They are diligent in disinfecting, but three old farts at one time from a family of only five is not a good idea anyway.

Hope your Memorial Day was good.
Various neighbors had large parties this weekend.
Stay safe.

Love the bird nest in your watering can. I know how feisty little wrens can be. I hope you can find a solution to keep the nest, eggs and Mom bird safe in a storm.
Also love the picture of your three fur babies. The "fun" with animals, birds, squirrels, etc. never ends.
Quiet day here yesterday.
I hope Carole's trip and exam will be a good one.
Take care, stay well !

I got a giggle from your telling about the nest... On serious note - do you have something metal to slide under the can? Then tie the can to the stool... I'm thinking raccoons don't jump much so if they can't get a grip on the metal to climb the nest might be safe from them. And tying the can to the stool would keep it from being knocked down?? A wire cage around the stool large enough that paws can't reach the stool? OTOH, maybe too much futzing about might scare off momma wren. Though it seems like wrens are pretty determined to carry out the mission once eggs have been laid.

Yeah, I totally agree Carole should not push for you to go if only one is supposed to be with her. The whole family would be up sh... um... the creek if you got sick. Which brings up a totally none of my business thought - Has Carole ever *seriously* considered what if you were ever unable to do all that you do for her? And what if Mark were not able to either??? I suspect this is in your mind, as much as you do for them.

Marly: Your cats look so relaxed..
I hope the baby birds will not be bothered by the cats, if you move the can up higher maybe the momma bird will be safer, not sure about the rain in the can, how about an umbrella, maybe this will help.

I was also think of an umbrella. I agree the fewer people with Carole the better. My husband was question why cannot one person ( properly suited up) visit a dying relative. I said because then everyone would think they should visit too, more chance for exposure. Let's be like your cats six feet apart. That one MRI it all depends on who reads it. In 2016 I had a stroke ,that night they said no stroke on CT scan but let's check with an MRI, they said no stroke. In the morning a neurologist said yes there was a stroke. So you need a specialist to read test results. On Memorial Day we had a neighbor give us a wonderful concert on his keyboard from his from steps, neighbors just sat across the street in little family groups. It was nice, I said to my husband "look there are people sitting on the corner drinking! Fun, take care

Those three flat cats are hysterical!! Love that picture. We have several wren families nesting in various places on our property. Fun to watch them but I worry about Tyg jumping up!!

A few years ago 3 little wrens fell out of a birdhouse. We waited and waited for the parents to return. The next day those little darlings were screaming for food. No parents ever came. We had around 6 feral cats coming and going at the time so I had to get them off the ground-I'm surprised the cats didn't hear them. I was told the closest rehab center was over an hour away and although we're not supposed to I went about trying to save them. I took an old dog crate from when my dog was a little puppy and put some mesh wire around it. Then I set out for the bait shop and got meal worms and some fat white worms. They loved the fat white worms best. I would stick a worm on a wood skewer and put it in front of one bird and it would snatch that worm right up. This was an around the clock feat! I named them Inken, Blinken and Nodd. Unfortunately Nodd didn't make it overnight. Inken and Blinken grew and grew and they were finally flying from one branch to another so I thought it was time to take them to a park with lots of old growth trees with trees that had fallen down and was decaying. I could see lots of bugs on it. I opened the cage and they hopped over to the tree and starting chirping and looking for food. I put down all the left over worms for them. They ate and ate while I watched them and they finally flew up into the tall trees. I wished them the best at migrating south when the time came. I'm sure God instills that into them somehow. I never want to go through that again!

For skittish cats, those three look pretty laid back and chilled LOL. Love it. Hmmm...quite the feathered dilemma. Have you any chicken wire or maybe even a tomato cage that is wired close enough together so the kittehs can't get through and put that around it?? As for cover from the elements...any old patio umbrellas?? Sure you've thought of these and probably have come up with something much more ingenious.... If not, wishing you the best of luck...and ideas.... ~Robin~
