The width of things to come

For some reason, I am not fond of samplers with more width than length.  I can see the actual size of Hickling now that I stitched to the full width.  Long and skinny, what I was 40 years ago.

A wide short piece can pull together a wall grouping and create interest.  There really aren't many reproductions of that shape, but plenty of designs.  I haven't decided how many of my finishes will be hung with pins as before, or framed.    Several are quite narrow and long (Pumroy is really long) and currently they are all rolled and stored in a spare bedroom (that is really a total mess of odds and ends and fabrics).

I found a few pieces of scrap in the shed and had Mark create more protection for mama bird.  She is feeding now, and the cats have spotted her flying in and out.  I also have a jar of Vicks out which has helped me many times to protect baby bunnies from coons and cats.  It is so strong that it either irritates their nose or masks the scent of prey.  I use a plastic storage container that is taller, from soup or salad, turn it upside down, cut out a section, and add a weight on top.  It keeps the jar dry from rain and still allows the scent to disperse.  You can also smear the Vicks onto items and create a perimeter, but this one is in a corner so that wasn't necessary.

Hot hot hot!!  Possible storms this afternoon.
Garden is not looking good, par for the course.

Carole is doing OK.  I'm going for a review Friday and this may be the final showdown.  I am so tired of her pushing plant based diets and I have to deal with this every single appointment.  Because of the Sjogren's, I can't eat a variety of veggies that contain acid, no oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, peaches, and a lot of other foods.  Absolutely no vinegar base recipes or salad dressings which makes salads pretty bland.  And I don't even like veggies or most of the recipes she gave me to try.  Enough.  Doesn't she understand that a diet not enjoyed is a diet not kept?

Gotta get moving, blood work this morning.

Have a great day!!
Thanks for visiting.

Marly - I am very interested in your Vicks setup. In your sheet metal corner, where exactly did you place it? I'm wondering about how much area one jar of Vicks "protects". I have a neighbor who lets her cat roam the neighborhood and he uses my yard for various purposes. I don't want to hurt the cat - only deter him from using my yard for his activities. Leslie

Hi Marly,
Your sampler is so pretty and I really love how it is looking!! I know it is hard to display the unusual sizes, and love your way of pinning them!
So happy to see momma bird continues to be safe with your efforts and hope how interesting about the Vicks!! Every time I smell that it reminds me of my childhood as it was used in our house A LOT!!! lol
Happy to hear Carole is doing okay and hope that continues!!! I also hope all goes well with your appointment!! I hope your Dr will really listen and offer you some better choices!! It must be so hard to be so limited in what you can eat!! I feel like lately I just want to eat more and think it is more about COMFORT rather than HUNGER, but quite honestly, I just LOVE GOOD FOOD!!! Keeping you in my prayers!
Take care and hope you have a good week!! We are HOT here in AZ and I am keeping cool inside!!
Heart Hugs~

Marly: I cannot imagine not being able to eat veggies, I am so sorry from my heart you have to endure this, I will still keep you & Carole in my daily prayers.
I do like this Sampler, it looks so vintage to me.
Thank-you for taking care of the baby birds, they do need our help sometimes, i have never heard of the Vick's thing, I am going to try it.
Have a great day my friend.

You really are moving along on your sampler!
Interesting info on the Vicks. When I was growing up, Vicks and St. Joseph baby aspirin...I think my mom believed they could even cure cancer...lol!

Love your sampler-it will be beautiful when finished.
Happy to hear that Carole is doing well and I feel so sorry for you that she is trying so hard to get you into some dieets.
Hope your appointment will go well on friday.
Never thought on Vicks to use for protection!!! Will give it a try to the cat of the neighbours.
Stay save and healthy.

I love the sampler. So glad that Carole is doing well. I love how you are protecting that mama bird. It sounds to me like you need to do that same kind of nurturing for yourself. You may have to determine your own healthy diet. You are right that a diet not enjoyed is useless. I am with you on not liking many veggeis.

That sampler is really pretty. I love the colors you are using! We have a bird nest in the fushia. We might loose the plant if we don't water but I worry that we might hurt the baby birds so we can always buy a new plant!

Wow...you're making great progress. Of course I have never really considered length/width issues before....I either like them or don't....Now you will have me thinking about that. I have a wall of antique samplers in the master bedroom ... pure torture for me to hang. I arranged them all on the loor 101 times and they still look like crap. And that is the reason all of the antique gameboards that I was going to hang in my study are still on the floor underneath the wall they arae intended to hang on. The struggle is real. ~Robin~
