Another month closer to summer

Does that make a nasty crabass smile?  Not even that.  But I have hope that eventually, it will.

So here we are.  Made it to the new year.  I don't belong to the gregarious groups that enjoy celebrating and hosting great parties for the new year.  Good thing or I'd really be ticked.  It's almost midnight and the cats are in the garage condos, my single Advil is not doing much, and stitching is extremely frustrating.  I need to make a change, hoping to get your opinion.

The thread is too similar to the linen.  I am removing more stitches than placing, always one thread off.  The DMC never shred like this before but since I moved to a higher count linen, maybe that's why.  The friction being pulled through a smaller hole must weaken it?  Who cares why.  It shreds!

I have one more full row and New Jersey in the last before changing to the dark green for Adam ......

There isn't much beneath that (blue box) of the problem thread but I must change the color.  Because of all the dark green in that area, I think continuing with it would be too much.  Do you agree?  My other options are the blue in the alpha and single border encasing the body, or the 400 that I am using in the outermost single border.

Their bodies and the border flowers in the very light thread do not show in this photo and I plan to use an even lighter thread for contrast.  So what should it be.... blue? ..... or rust?
Help!!!

Happy New Year Marly, hope it's a better one for the whole World. I took a class with Ellen Chester years ago and she told us to use a larger needle when stitching on a finer count linen, or with silks and the bigger needle makes a slightly larger hole for the thread to pass through and reduces shredding. Do try it and see if it makes a difference.

Marly a very happy and healthy New Year with a lot of love and happiness!
There are new owners of the DMC company and they have changend the production of the threads. That's why the threads are not as good as they are before.
Because of my bad fingers I use always a fine needle nr 26 otherwise I cann't stitch. Don't use longe threads that will help reduce shredding your threads.
I think a rusty color will do the trick.
Stay safe and take care.

Happy New Year, Marly! As much as I like blue, I'm voting for rust. It's not that much of a change from the pattern and it will tie in with the other lettering color. As to the shredding, all I can suggest is the next size larger needle.

If true about new DMC owners and production/quality changes, that is certainly not good news.

Happy New Year dear Lady. Your dedication to craft amazes me! Like others, I am leaning to rust. I love the contrast in a piece and this one would look good in either color I think.

I always worry that my old DMC might be dry rotted but I have also noticed that the newer flosses shred, I thought it was me and my amateurish attempts.

I'm off to cut baby burp pads (a service project) and empty the rest of the kitchen cabinets, a month of misery!

I too was going to suggest a slightly larger needle. Here in northern Indiana we are getting an ice storm. Just hoping we don't lose power. I have our horses back in the stalls so they aren't slipping and falling on pure ice. That is the worst of it for me, my worry is what they have to navigate. Happy New Year!

I vote for a complementing rust, as well .My DMC of at least 30 years ago is in great
shape and has a silken sheen no longer to be seen in their product today, alas. I also
believe that with care, it does hold its quality and strength. I think you have met the
challenges of 2020 with valor, Marly dear, and who knows, 2021 may surprise us with renewed hope and determination. Don't have to wish much for your feline pets; they have
it made big time already. A blessed New Year.

Well, it's unanimous...I vote rust. Probably already decided though LOL. Yes, I do believe there is a difference in the newer DMC, but yes, a higher count linen creates more friction on it. I cannot take out more than a few stitches without the floss breaking, so I usually don't even bother...I just take a seam ripper to it and start with new floss. And I can commiserate with you. I thought I would be decadent and actually stitched during the day yesterday (hey, it was a holiday after all) rather than making myself wait until the evening. Early evening I discovered an error that required taking out everything I had stitched during the day. That should teach me to be indulgent. ~Robin~
