Even when you find what you love, nothing is for certain.

I give up.

Wow, big difference! This is my experience with hand-dyed linen also. It's really luck of the draw when ordering them online because it'll always be a surprise, and not always a good one. I had a small piece of PTP Heritage that was perfect for a sampler I was trying to kit up but not large enough, so I ordered a larger piece and when it came in it was over the top chunky mottled and green. Good for a Halloween design but not a repro sampler. So I ordered something else....., and something else, etc.,....and $160 later and I finally had my piece of linen! And that's the way I came to have a LNS worth of linen taking over my closets.

Wow, I understand. I ordered a piece of cocoa colored for a large project last Spring. It took 4 months to arrive, it looks like baby poo. So, project shelved until I can actually see the piece. I have a friend who used to do hand dye, beautiful work but she readily admits that consistency is a huge issue for her. Of course, she suggests buying the dye lot above and below the color range you think you want, she did refund the ones you discard, friends only because some people took great advantage of her. She now lives South and has not been dying for a while. She blesses whoever still does! Must be the way it is.

Can't say I am surprised! I do like the one on the left with the less mottling and splotchiness!

And that's why I am hesitant to order hand dyed linen and floss on line. Even if returns were possible, there's still the hassle to package back up and get to PO. It's *almost* enough to make me think about dying my own. If I ever get back to stitching enough to use up what I do have on hand that is.

Sorry about more stores closing near you. Our Michaels has been closed since the August derecho. The last I saw was they are to reopen this month, but I haven't seen anything that it will. And that insurance thing - you ended up owing the lawyer and state more than what was in the policy? That stinks!

I never order on line for a specific piece, such a gamble. I just order at random then pick from my stash! How is Bud?

I feel for you! I order linen per the chart specs, and sometimes I'm so disappointed with what I receive because it doesn't look anything like the chart photo. So it sits until I find a piece of linen that suits!

Marly: I am not sure I can order fabric online any longer it seems the colors I order now are not what is shown on the site, I am lucky enough to have Stitchville USA a little over an hour away, I need to look and feel the fabrics now, so I do make a big haul when I go.
I feel so bad when stitcher's do not get what they really want, however, the only two places I have gotten what I want 90% of the time is Sassy Jack's (not my favorite place to order takes too long to get fabric) and the other place is Stoney Creek, however they are limited on colors of fabric.
I do hope you find what you really want.
I love reading your posts, you makes me smile lots.

Hugs
Catherine
